Neurons need mitochondria not only for making fuel to fire, but also for firing rate stabilization! Maxim @MaxKatsenelson , a brilliant PhD student in my lab, found that IGF1 receptor is crucial for firing rate homeostasis and it does so by regulating mitochondrial calcium.

Check out our new preprint with @ShaiIsrael2 , @Eyal_Roz and @wolfhuette showing novel pathways for olfactory mediated backward locomotion. We found SEZ neurons that mediate backward walking and respond to aversive odors. We call them MooSEZs (Moonwalker SEZ).
