highlights:
1. RCP has financial interest in PAs
2. BMA membership = declaration of interest
3. No evidence that PAs have any negative impact
4. Retired physicians vote, trainees do not
5. Question authority and be ignored (see video)
Truly extraordinary
@RCPhysicians
Thank you for publishing the full data. Why was the EGM data presented with bias?
This will influence how fellows are informed and how they will vote, what will you do to rectify this and promote transparency?
PM lies on national TV. Consultants are voting on an undecided pay offer. SAS doctors pay dispute unresolved.
Nurses pay dispute ignored as they can’t strike.
(Junior) Doctors had real terms pay slashed 10x more than others. Does he think an extra £1.50/h will keep us here?

I’m running for RCS England council with a primary aim of stopping scope creep.
Surgeons are the gold standard, I refuse to settle for anything less - patients do not deserve anything less. MAPs are not the quick fix, doctors are. It’s time to oppose madness.
🚨🚨🚨 SURGEONS! 🚨🚨🚨
We need your help to take DoctorsVote to the next level. We've revolutionised the BMA, it's now time to transform the Royal Colleges. RCS Council is responsible for determining professional policy issues, including those related to training, standards,
The hatred for doctors comes from the top. It is an ingrained culture.
Those who earn more than doctors, and continue to have lifetime earnings in excess of a decade, will pay nearly half price to the same regulator
@gmcuk
.
Just another reason why doctors are leaving the UK.
So we heard today at the select committee debate
@gmcuk
will be charging £221 per annum for PA/AA registration.
Why do I as a doctor have to pay £433?
I would much rather pay £221 as well, and come to think of it, I just might cancel my direct debit right now. 🙂
Doctors are being replaced by non-doctors before our very eyes
I do not question the individuals doing these job roles, this was not their decision
I question the bodies that enable this, including employers, royal colleges, regulators and the government
@SteveBarclay
@BMA_JuniorDocs
@Daily_Express
Drop your preconditions, you know the BMA’s stance for full pay restoration. Patients will continue to suffer if you don’t retain this nation’s doctors.
Sit down at the negotiating table and give your counter offer instead of walking out because you don’t like it.
The false narrative that we can’t afford to pay doctors as before stops here.
The government would rather pitch you against doctors of all people, than restore their pay.
If you want doctors to stop leaving, pay us as before in real terms.
@EileenBurns13
If the government are blocking doctors, why would you promote filling gaps with non-doctors?
Is your profession not worth protecting enough that you would rather be complacent in this? Or would you rather promote a gold standard of care and fight for what patients deserve?
@TAkbar
@ShaunLintern
Hi Tahir, do PAs undertaking advanced procedures undertake the same scrutiny of medical training that a doctor would doing this?
It raises an important question of if medical training is required at all for procedures making up indicative numbers for doctor progression
@ShayanAshjaei
@RobLaurensonD4P
This is not a personal attack, veiled GMC threats on social media will not age well.
Doctors are familiar with their regulator’s guidelines - neither patient safety, nor the public’s confidence in doctors is at risk.

why would any aspiring endoscopist want to train as a doctor when it’s cheaper, easier, faster and more supported to be a PA endoscopist instead? Higher lifetime earnings for the first decade too, without that 100k medical student debt
An ugly truth for doctors, surgery excludes the poor. With competition ratios higher than 1 in 4 for a training job, surgeons of the future are forced to make huge financial sacrifices to just compete for a spot
Finally did my own calculations!
£13464! An eye watering amount of money I HAD TO pay out of my £14-£19/h salary. Just to get a job and work as a surgical doctor.
Of course didn't include all other 'optional' courses, conferences to make my portfolio competitive 😆

@misspaulalondon
@Zaeem_Mahmood1
@goldstone_tony
Yes, disingenuous. £100,000 of medical school student loans are subject to RPI, not CPI. That is paid back as £250,000 over a medics lifetime.
Doctors live in a world where RPI affects us, a sorry state to talk nationally and not even acknowledge this basic fundamental.
@Doctors_Vote
If DV lose these elections FPR is over. We have proven time and time again that we can deliver, vote for us and don’t let the BMA revert to how it was

Ward walks are happening in hospitals all over with our BMA pay campaigners. Loads of doctors are signing up and voting YES on their ballots.
Doctors demonstrate their value when they effectively unionise. Just under 3 weeks to go.

PAs are not regulated (been pending for 9 years now since the name change), not internationally recognised and only have a draft curriculum. A doctor cannot apply for a PA job, why can a PA run the last metre in a marathon and get a medical degree?
@thetimes
We have a government that would rather strip essential workers of human rights and fire them, whilst members of the public continue to suffer, instead of sitting at the table with unions to negotiate fair pay. What on earth..
I’m out hosting pay events and walking wards with the

Doctors are kind, accountable and professional. If we are not, our license to practice can be threatened and we are silenced. But why is it one rule for doctors and another for everybody else?
Every day that passes, more dark truths get uncovered. But who is accountable?

@GeriSoc
I am glad the person in question is okay.
Misrepresenting yourself as a doctor is a crime. This is objectively what has happened in this case. Individuals and employers should be made accountable to that. Patients are the ones who suffer because of mistakes like this.

Extremely interesting development in America where an association of trainee doctors are pushed into a position to fight for... training doctors (over other AHPs!) in delivering procedures.
Healthcare has evolved, but with doctors struggling, will this be coming soon in the UK?

Too long have doctors put up with being infantilised
Doctors have been devalued beyond belief. NHS employers, royal colleges and educational bodies have a lot to answer for. But they always turn a blind eye.
Is it any surprise that the goodwill of doctors has been exhausted?
Doctors pay dispute is only one, though totemic & overwhelming, of many serious issues affecting working conditions & unattractiveness of the NHS to doctors.

Hi
@SteveBarclay
if you want to be fair across the public sector why have doctors faced a much larger real terms pay cut than anyone else?
It's cheaper to pay doctors back what they've lost than spending much more mitigating the action, plus we can bring waiting lists down

The Government has been unable to provide a credible offer.
The BMA Doctors Committee has voted unanimously to call for strike action.

Junior doctors are asking for pay to be restored (in real terms) to what it was in 2008, not for more. It’ll stop a lot of doctors leaving and feeling unvalued

@mjv__1
That’s not entirely correct, engagement correlates extremely well with a series of new reps (of which Doctors Vote for).
It would be naïve to discredit the original comment. Before my time, I had never seen a rep walk on wards and address doctor concerns F2F for example.
@wesstreeting
If you don't like what you say, don't say it. If you don't like the way papers represent you, don't speak to them.

Holding a doctorate is an incredible feat. However:
‘Doctor of medicine’ is a legally protected title and the public would reasonably assume that anyone introducing themselves as ‘doctor’ in a healthcare setting meant a ‘doctor of medicine’.
