If the vote goes through we are at the beginning of pay restoration. The excuses will have been removed but *we all* will still be responsible for holding the system to account. This is the happy music in the horror film. Stay organised, stay prepared to take action.

@DrRgoldi @trentconsultant The medical workforce really needs to sign up to one of the union and its aims both literally and figuratively . The unity of the members is its only strength. Cardies and hand wringing its greatest weakness. Predators sense weakness and take merciless advantage.

Today I tested out the best bit of medical advice I’ve seen on twitter; Very deaf man on ward round, no hearing aid, communication impossible. I found a stethoscope. Stuck it in his ears and spoke clearly into diaphragm. Worked perfectly! No yelling, privacy/dignity preserved.

Paying staff in the NHS fairly doesn't remove funding for patient care. *Unless politicians decide it will be that way*. It's a national health service, it must be funded by the nation, not subsidised with the stolen wages of the staff.

If you wonder if it’s worth paying BMA rate card rates for a consultant to be in, at 3am, outside their contract, on their time off, keeping you alive on ITU, during surgery, labour & then you find Matt Hancock wants £1500/hr or £10,000/day

Can I just point out to medical directors and CEOs. The delivery of a service in your hospital is your responsibility, not that of the employees come what may. If there are rota gaps requiring extra contractual work to fill them, you need to *encourage/appeal/pay* to cover 1/2

Public satisfaction with NHS at lowest ever level, survey shows it doesn’t matter how it’s funded, one way or another we end up funding our health care.

Listen to Emma Runswick answer some of the classic questions about why doctors are striking. It's only 2 minutes of your life, if we don't maintain retention by paying fairly, your life might genuinely depend on it.

Pay people for the job they do now, not what they may or may not do in the future. Additionally consultant pay is down 35% versus inflation too and ballot for consultant strikes will go ahead unless progress is made. Dragging in consultant pay will not help these talks @DHSCmedia

The BMA has demanded a 35% pay rise for junior doctors. Junior doctors can undertake career advancement to long term careers, with the starting salary for consultants being £88,364.

Parliament isn’t sitting (many are on holiday). There’s a crisis in the NHS due to government refusal to sit down/negotiate without preconditions yet just one of the negotiating team on the BMA side being away at a wedding (talks could start anyway) is national news? Perspective

Just been on BBC with Hugh Pym. I discussed all groups including Jnr Drs and made point that whole award was below inflation, not even parity & totally unfair considering sacrifice. Not sure which version will be used. Some were descriptive some short. Down to editor now.

The CMOs have said the NHS may be overun in 3 weeks. If we don't vaccinate all front line staff over the next 7 days will they be there for the sick or will they be the sick themselves. Please retweet? @MattHancock @Number10press @DHSCmedia

@SamuelBS85 2. Yelled and yelled at by a lady after THR about the appalling quality of the food. I agreed with her. She said then do something about it you pathetic man. I said I couldn’t as I was a dr, she said ‘sorry, I thought you were the head of catering who I’d demanded to see earlier’

Thur & Fri next week is consultant action [come on @SteveBarclay you know we were close to agreement, give us a call we can stop this], don't sit at home glum, attend a picket. If you think it's beneath you/unprofessional consider the barristers & their successful 15% pay claim

The problem with endlessly increasing the pension age is that we may be living longer, but the average age of developing a disability is virtually unchanged at roughly 62. We may be good at keeping people alive but we haven't cheated biology.

Again and again you see 'independent pay review body'. They are currently nothing but a fig leaf for government, a corrupted process. No "independent" body could oversee 20% drop for nurses, 28% for junior doctors and 35% for consultants. @theRCN @TheBMA

I had been feeling annoyed about the women with a hacking cough in the pub that clearly gave me covid. Imprisoned me & wiped out all those outpatient appointments & operating list that have been cancelled. Then I remembered, unless you’re an NHS worker how are you going to know?

This shouldn’t be needed. The government should sit down with us to discuss fixing our broken pay review body, looking back to 2008 & a credible offer for this years pay until it reports. #ComeToTheTable

Aussie take. A story where a friend stayed late to help in an RTA; Next day the boss said put in your claim, no said the young Dr 'I was just being professional'. Mate, said the boss, 'being professional is staying until the patient is safe, doing it for free is being a mug'
