Thank you to everyone who voted for me in Park ward in the Tunbridge Wells Borough Council elections.
Unfortunately, I did not get enough votes to get one of the 3 seats. I have enjoyed working hard to represent residents.
I wish the new councillors all the best.
@mikegalsworthy
I will be wearing a mask even though I don't like the idea.
Meanwhile, for those who refuse to wear a mask, I have designed this free card for you to print off, cut out and carry.
You're welcome. 😉

It's a bit early to throw these accusations at Meghan!
She married Prince Harry 7 months ago and there is much to learn before she can fully shape her role as a royal.
This reveals more about the naïvety of these two academics.

I don't want a republic.
Be careful about what you want to do away with.
Pomp and ceremony is one of the few things the British do well.
@KevinASchofield
Gove, Sunak and who else has helped to make RAAC a much bigger and much more urgent problem?
Failing to fund maintenence is repeated time and again in the public sector. The "saving" usually results in more urgent issues and bigger bills. It's always a false economy.
@bbcquestiontime
I am confused,
@redditchrachel
. We haven't had decades under Labour. The last decade, 14 years, actually, has been under Conservatives.
64-70 Lab = 6 yrs
70-74 Con = 4
74-79 Lab = 5
79-97 Con = 18
97-10 Lab = 13
10-24 Con = 14
60% of the last 60 years have been under Tories.
@hendopolis
No surprise.
Why would anyone want to come to...
(1) work in the UK after 5 years of increased anti-foreigner policies and behaviours, and
(2) take up a job that only lasts 3 months?

Calverley Grounds is

a park, but a treasured place in Tunbridge Wells for peace & quiet, contemplation and exercise, especially as it only just escaped from becoming a building site this year for an underground car park, office block & theatre.

The 5 permanent members of the UN Security Council (China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) can veto any "substantive" resolution.
Russia took USSR's permanent seat on the UN when the USSR disintegrated. Some now question this.
@toryboypierce
@Keir_Starmer
Is this a serious question?
My understanding is that the Post Office was telling everyone including ministers with responsibility for the Post Office that there were few prosecutions & Horizon was completely reliable.
When did the Daily Mail first cover the

Today, you have been criticised by the Privileges Committee for interfering with its inquiry, and now you want to remove the UK from ECHR.
You don't appear to care for democracy or human rights. You undermine both.
You are trashing core British values to win the populist vote.

Do you know the difference between migrant, refugee & asylum seeker?
Facts matter. Read more:
Everybody - UK homes less than many other countries, e.g. Germany.
Unskilled - Many are skilled or have a profession. Asylum seekers are not allowed to work.
@MichaelSadgrove
I hate the plastic waste, used once for a giggle and then put in the bin, all at the expense of our planet which many of us want to save for future generations.
At Full Council in December 2017 councillors voted on the Calverley Square development.
30 voted in favour
13 voted against
3 abstained
2 absent
The make-up of the council has changed, the vote is likely to be as follows:
18 in favour
30 against
A complete change.

What exactly is the Blob?
My understanding is that it includes civil servants, the legal system, charities, trade unions, remainers and any group disliked or not trusted by the more right wing Tories. Most people grouped as the Blob work hard for the country and its citizens.
@uk_domain_names
@montie
Precisely.
It's less about the parties and more about trust and the honesty & integrity of the Prime Minister and some of the team working closely with him.
If a PM cannot be trusted to follow the laws he announced, should we trust him to run the country with integrity?
@jclanoe
@grahambsi
It was misinformation that
@BorisJohnson
used in his Brexit campaign.
People who move to the UK are, on average, a much lower burden on the state than people born in the UK. The statistics were available to demonstrate this in 2016, and continue to demonstrate the same now.

There is nothing "world leading" with the Rwanda partnership,

Parking on a pedestrian crossing zigzag lines is an instant 3 points on your licence and a fine.

Today I shall be remembering my mother who died, unexpectedly, a year ago to the day.
Even though she had an unhappy childhood and suffered many hardships in her earlier years, she always remained a positive, uplifting & forgiving person.

Why are they protesting?
Don't they see the news?
I've driven 40 minutes to visit another town and have been browsing shops, had a coffee in a café, and am planning to stop for some food and a drink in a pub, and visit my father later this evening.

Conservatives have lost their controlling majority on Tunbridge Wells Borough Council
The 48 seats on the council are now distributed as follows:
Conservatives: 24
LibDems: 13
Labour: 5
Alliance: 5
Independents: 1
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is officially under no overall control (24/24 seat split), yet Conservatives continue to hold every position with power:
- all 6 seats on Cabinet, where most council decisions are made
- every committee chair
- every vice-chair
Your vote counts
On Thursday, 25th November, there's a by-election in Speldhurst & Bidborough.
The result of this by-election will tip the balance of power on Tunbridge Wells Borough Council if Matthew Sankey wins.
Please vote. Every vote can make a difference in a by-election.
18 Tory seats reduced to 5 in the Borough of Tunbridge Wells.
This wasn't just Brexit but also a local issue that created a new local party,

.
Leader of the council lost a safe seat.
Councillor in charge of the £94m project lost a seat.

I have received an official complaint from another councillor. If there was an ounce of truth in the complaint it should have been taken to the police. The allegations are that serious. Unfortunately, I cannot comment further.
It will not deter me from standing for re-election.

The use of white phosphorus is restricted under international humanitarian law. There are limited lawful uses. It must never be fired at or close to a populated civilian area due to it causing severe excruciating burns, producing thick white toxic smoke & starting serious fires.
I don't understand why the Chalybeate Spring is being left so unloved with empty planters.
The spring is the reason for the existence of Tunbridge Wells. It should be being celebrated not ignored.
There are also concerns about the future of the spring (the sign on the easel).
We need to improve our active travel infrastructure in Tunbridge Wells to enable & encourage children to cycle to school rather than add to the traffic congestion & air pollution.
One councillor should not be allowed to get away with blocking progress towards a healthier future.
@BenHouchen
Funding cuts to local authorities over the last 13 years have resulted in the whole country looking less cared for with more graffiti, more potholes, more fly-tipping, less youth support services, less buses. It's time for change at all levels of government. We've started here.

Why are the police involved?
Andrew Boff was speaking relatively quietly, not loudly heckling the Home Secretary.
Ejection from the meeting in this way is getting me concerned. Is this country slipping towards an authoritarian regime like some countries in the 1930s?
@davidallengreen
OK. I think I get it, I think. The government should have used powers to shut businesses so they can get support from insurance and government.
My seat on Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is up for election on 5th May.
I plan to stand as The Alliance candidate and hope to retain the seat so I can continue working with Alliance colleagues for a better council.

If that was not a bike lane, what was it, a parking space? The symbol on the road surface clearly says it is a bike lane.
Not every road has a segregated bike lane.
Cyclists don't legally have to use the segregated bike lane when there is one.
4 weeks on.
The conclusion to the official complaint against me and two other councillors was that there was no evidence to support it, and, therefore, the matter is closed.

Do you actually understand what a bonfire of all the EU laws & regulations would do to UK based businesses & the UK economy?
The UK's biggest trading partner is still the EU and will always be the countries within the EU.
Brexit is full of false promises of a brighter future.

It's not completely surprising.
The commuters need to work to put food on the table. Some won't get paid if they don't turn up, and a few may already be struggling with finances.

That's not true. Most buggies are narrower than wheelchairs because babies & toddlers are significantly smaller than adults.

It's not true to say the North Pole is having the coldest May on record, if you're only looking at that chart.
A correct statement is that May temperatures have been below the mean for 1958 to 2002.
It should be noted that Jan to Mar temperatures were ~5°C above the average.
@JujuliaGrace
Thank you for clarifying this. My understanding was along these lines.
Thank you for speaking up for NHS workers in the frontline. I am sick of people who think the pandemic isn't a major challenge and the restrictions are the govt attempting to permanently remove our freedoms.
This graphic from
@timeslocalnews
shows how dramatic the change in political power has been over the last 5 years in Tunbridge Wells. For over 20 years the council has been Conservative, now it's something quite different.
The full paper can be read here:
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is now run by a Borough Partnership between the Liberal Democrats, TW Alliance, Labour and the independent member for Paddock Wood East.
Ben Chapelard - the leader of the Liberal Democrats - has just been elected leader of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council by 31 votes to 0 against. He heads a coalition with key roles shared out with Labour and TW Alliance councillors.
The local elections results, so far, are showing the Conservatives losing 20% of their seats.
In Tunbridge Wells, the Conservatives are defending 11 seats. It's unlikely they will only lose 2 of these (18%). They are likely to lose 4 (36%), and could lose as many as 7 (64%).

, WWII was not a fight against socialism, but a fight against fascism.
Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition & strong regimentation of society.
Know your history & learn from it.
The official complaint against me, the false claims in some candidates leaflets, and the removal of some Alliance campaign banners makes me stronger and more determined to push through change in Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.
Please support your Alliance candidate.
Is it just me who feels that this country is literally crumbling & collapsing?
Public buildings closing due to RAAC. Rail strikes. Doctor & nurse strikes. Potholed roads. Polluted rivers & beaches. PPE VIP lane contracts. Stretched NHS and adult social care.
What have I missed?
Last week, I learned that these benches on Tunbridge Wells and Rusthall Commons with the iron 'hawthorn' frame are Victorian, dating from the 1860s. A programme of restoration took place in the early 1990s and a number of replicas have been produced. Restoration is never ending!
I am shocked at the lies & inaccuracies in this front page article.
I am embarrassed that a local newspaper has stooped this low.
An angry journalist has been allowed to take over the front page of a local newspaper without checking his facts.
I wait for an apology.
The more I am attacked and smeared by local Conservatives, the more I will stand up and fight for honesty, integrity, greater transparency and increased citizen participation in decision making in the Borough.
