@MarinaPurkiss I don't want a republic. Be careful about what you want to do away with. Pomp and ceremony is one of the few things the British do well.

We’re almost in 2024 FFS… When are we going to end all this nonsense?

@nick_pope @MarinaPurkiss True -but don’t you think it’s being overtaken by poverty and homelessness?

@grumpyman66uk @MarinaPurkiss Government policies are responsible for the rise in homelessness & poverty. Let's push our government to focus on dealing with these. The pomp & ceremony and history promotes tourism which generates £237bn for the economy.

@nick_pope @MarinaPurkiss I want a republic. And pomp and ceremony is not a British only thing. The USA has it in droves.

@nick_pope @MarinaPurkiss How about we make a Britain that does things like health, education and hi-tech industry well, not one that resembles Miss Havisham sitting in her wedding dress in a dusty, decaying room, dwelling on an Imperial past of extremely dubious merit? #AbolishTheMonarchy #NotMyKing

@nick_pope @MarinaPurkiss They would be far less offensive if they did away with the golden carriages, ermin furs and the diamond crown that is worth circa £4 billion. Pomp and ceremony helps nobody except them, and is all about feelings. This is very damaging.

@nick_pope @MarinaPurkiss Lots of countries do pageantry well without a monarch.
