We will be saying more shortly about what other changes we need to end the scourge of illegal immigration. But I am now very clear that, once we are out of the straitjacket of ECHR membership, a Conservative government will be able to enact the policies the British people

It is time for Britain to leave the European Convention on Human Rights. I have not taken this decision lightly. I have always been clear that we should leave the ECHR if we need to, but I was also concerned about the arguments that had been raised in opposition to leaving. The

Every single one of these students will be entitled to claim asylum once they arrive here, because of the ECHR. These students Labour are giving scholarships to never need to return to Gaza. Our laws are no longer fit for purpose. This is why we need to leave the ECHR and

Pleased to confirm a second cohort of students from Gaza with scholarships at British universities arrived in the UK today to begin their studies. They could play a vital role as future leaders in postwar Gaza.

This afternoon, I had the honour of speaking with the @chiefrabbi to express my deepest sympathy to the victims and their families, and to Britain’s wider Jewish community, who have understandably been deeply shaken by this appalling act of terror in Manchester. We are

The @Conservatives are - and always will be - the party of business, economic competence and fiscal responsibility. As I told the @FT, that’s the foundation on which we will build the economy of the future: stability, lower taxes and living within our means.

This evening I visited Westminster Synagogue with its president, Lord Leigh, in the shadow of the horrific terror attacks outside a synagogue in Manchester. On the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, I saw this community come together in prayer and reflection. It is a day of

The murders in Manchester shock us all. Jews murdered simply for being Jews. That should not be the UK of 2025. But it is. On Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, Jews take time for introspection. To ask themselves - where have we gone wrong in the past, and what do we need to do

When something isn’t working, we should be honest and say so. The Climate Change Act isn’t working for Britain or global emissions. It forces us to make decisions that increase bills and make people poorer. We will repeal it and put cheap energy, nature and innovation first.

It’s time to stop the deindustrialisation of Britain. We can protect our environment and preserve nature without crushing our economy. The Conservatives have a plan to make economic growth the priority, bring down energy bills and put more money in your pocket.

These attacks on Yom Kippur are horrifying. The Jewish community should never have to live in fear. Britain must remain a safe home for Jews: free from hatred, intimidation or violence.

This was a vile and disgusting attack on a synagogue in Manchester. On Yom Kippur – the holiest day of the Jewish year – families gathered in prayer were targets for violence. My heart goes out to all those hurt and affected. I know many in our Jewish community will feel shaken.

Our priority must be cheap abundant energy and economic growth - while protecting our natural landscapes. The Climate Change Act stands in the way. A future Conservative Government will replace it.

Every day under Labour, an extra 1000 people sign on to out of work sickness benefits. If you’re too weak to fix that, you have no right to increase taxes on people in work. @Conservatives are the only party with a plan to cut our spiralling welfare state.

The endless taxing, borrowing and spending of Labour and Reform is not the only option. Living within our means. Cutting the deficit. Balancing the books. That's the Conservative plan under my leadership, to ensure we leave a better financial legacy for the next generation.

Scrapping the two-child benefit cap is irresponsible and unfair. I outlined why in the @thetimes last week đŸ‘‡đŸ» The UK is in the grip of a cost-of-living crisis, and families across the country are working harder than ever, tightening their belts and making tough choices every

No honesty on tax rises from Starmer. Total fiscal indiscipline from Reeves. Labour only know how to spend your money. The Conservatives want you to keep more of your money. We will tackle the deficit, get welfare spending down and make sure Britain lives within its means.

Rachel Reeves is promising to lift the two child benefit cap. This new welfare spending will mean more tax and more borrowing. Only the Conservatives are committed to keeping the cap because we know we have to live within our means. If they scrap it, we will bring it back.

This morning’s news that growth halved compared to the previous quarter is concerning. Yesterday, the Chancellor should have taken the chance to rule out changes to the two-child benefit cap but instead she accepted unlimited welfare spending is inevitable, meaning tax rises
