"A revelatory portrait of the horror and absurdity of the conflict spiked with much-needed threads of humanity and hope." ―Kirkus Reviews.
My book on the Battle of Kyiv is out on May 7, 2024.
Sitting alone in a wartime city in the night, sipping iced whiskey, listening to the sound of air raid sirens roar, looking into the dark of the street.
I will never forgive them for what they did to the Kyiv we love.
When this war is over, I’m gonna quit war journalism.
Fuck it.
I’m gonna get a quiet remote place to live and will be writing stories of whales and polar explorers.
BREAKING ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Russian Black Sea Fleet flagship Moskva confirmed sank.
The first Russian loss of a flagship since the Russian-Japanese war of 1904-1905.
A historic Ukrainian victory.
It’s a miracle - civilians that were hiding in a basement at the Drama Theater in Mariupol survived the air strike.
Now they are getting evacuated from underneath the ruins.
Confirmed: Colonel Sergey Sukharev, Russia’s 331st Airborne Regiment commander, has been eliminated in Ukraine.
He was directly responsible for the Ilovaisk massacre of 2014.
So what we have is:
Russia’s main forces are still failing to enter Kyiv and sustain severe casualties. Defense in the northwest is still very strong and effective. Air defense keeps strong. Small sabotage groups do enter but get destroyed.
Ukraine has full control.
Meanwhile, yours truly has got 1 million followers here on Twitter.
On the day when my hometown was officially announced completely destroyed by the Russian military.
Thank you for your attention and your support.
We keep holding on.
We will get back home.
I’ve just been searched by the Ukrainian police, they noticed our car parked alone by a highway outside the city.
Believe me when I tell you, they are working really hard to check all potential Russian saboteurs.
Our International Legion is sustaining combat losses as well
Rest In Peace Scott Sibley 🇬🇧
Thank you for your service. You fought for the most just cause this world knows now.
Welcome to the world where Ukraine, in which very few had faith in West, has spent a month successfully defending itself from the biggest military operation since World War II.
And now it has a very real chance of spelling the end of Russia as a world power.
Good morning from Ukraine 🇺🇦
Air raid sirens failed to wake me up again 😆
We’re still standing — thanks to our outstanding military and your support.
The mission is to keep standing until Russian beast machine breaks down.
🇺🇦Ukraine’s military: Russian advancement slows down, the enemy runs at its operational limit, supplies are getting scarce and logistics are poorly coordinated. Morale is low. Attempts to isolate Kyiv are not successful.
When this war is over, if you want to visit Kyiv and you happen to be a bicycle freak like myself, I can definitely recommend these three long routes.
Beautiful forests, broad highways, awesome sunny river banks will be at your pleasure’s service:
People, no need to worry - I am more than alright, thanks to our military 🥰
Kyiv is so pleasant now - real warm springtime has come, in spite of all evil
Ukrainian marines that reportedly surrendered in Mariupol have been outnumbered and outgunned, fighting in a besieged city amid relentless destruction.
Getting out of strength, water, food, ammo. For nearly 40 days.
They have done 500% of what one could reasonably expect.
Russians reportedly demand that Ukraine reduces its military to just 60,000 men (as part of a peace deal), and the 72nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade defending Kyiv now just can’t stop laughing its Javelins off.
⚡️European Parliament says yes to Ukraine as a candidate nation.
I’d be laughing so hard if we actually join the EU straight out of our trenches of war.
I see that a lot of towns and cities around the world are waving 🇺🇦Ukrainian banners in their communities.
Please share pictures here in the comments, and leave notes regarding their locations.
It would be a great thing to see.
AaAAAaAAaAAaaaaaaaaAAAAAAA!!!!
These two Russian idiots in Shevchenkove, Kharkiv oblast, had their vehicle sputtered out.
Guess what they did?
They came to a local Ukrainian police station.
And asked if they could have some fuel.
