I’ve been at a pensions talk when a #WASPI woman found out her retirement was actually 7 years later than she’d been planning I will never forget her look of absolute abject despair. It’s not the increase; it’s that it wasn’t in stages & ***no one told them***

I have realised that many who don’t wear masks think they are rebelling “against the system, sheeple!” Whereas I spot people not wearing masks and think they are just putting others, who are more vulnerable, at risk. Funny old world, innit?

Covid myths: 🦠catching it provides lasting “natural immunity” (it doesn’t) 🦠Children always get a mild disease (they don’t & ~10% get long Covid) 🦠We know what the long term impact of Covid on the body is (we don’t) Tell me again why we’re ok with #lettingItRip in the UK?

@Ewbz @Iconoclast1982 @Channel4News The lens by which we view women in the workplace is perfectly drawn in these two tweets. I thought she was reasonable and polite, but we traditionally dismiss women with the word “hysterical”. Why would someone want to dismiss? 🤔 Fascinating.

I’m going to tell you something regarding #ItsOKtoAsk in the context of hospital roles Having been a patient, it really isn’t. I did ask (very nicely) at a hospital appointment & got major kick-back & I still didn’t really know what the chap who saw me actually was.

We can’t put this responsibility onto patients. It’s my responsibility to tell you my name & I’m a GP. & I try to do that every time; pt shouldn’t need to ask. It should be the same standard for all providing healthcare. That was the point of #helloMyNameIs

My yardstick for how challenging covid numbers are in hospital is when the junior doctors are redeployed to covid care. Last resort - last happened in winter 21. Call has just gone out that there will be redeployment in my region from this week. This is the NHS in crisis (again)

@DrSandyThomson This is a wonderful thing. Had a pt fairly recently who just longed for some crème de menthe. At 95, my general view was that if her green medicine would make her feel better, I was happy to write up a tot or two for her 💚💚

I had a friend called Ian Noble, who died tragically young in an RTA. We got a tree to remember him by; a silver birch that has moved house with us 3 times. Thought last summer had been too hot for it, but today it has new buds. You’re not forgotten, Ian 💕 @TheBMA

@PlanetBeth91 This is genuinely appalling and closes the ranks on university education for many. It also means you can have one bad day, fail a single exam and effectively have the door slam shut for the rest of your life

@NehhhDan @SkyeBlue72 @oakman_stevens @JoeyClo1 To be fair, the mask might have been effective. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It doesn’t protect the wearer from getting Covid, but decreases the risk of them spreading it to someone else.

I’m a doctor and I won’t be silent on covid. Safe air and making society safe for all should be our aims; not a “normal” full of death and disability.

1/ REFLECT ON THIS In just two years the countries of the Western world have undone two hundred years of hard-won gains in public health. And have managed to make the people think it's a huge leap forward! They have metaphorically put the handle back on the Broad Street pump.

@chris_salt What’s so bloody annoying is the false dichotomy of “restrictions” vs “lockdown” If we did the first we wouldn’t need the latter. In response to your actual question, no, this is not a good place to be & honestly, the most important thing anyone can do atm is avoid getting sick

Ah the joy of an in-person conference. Until you realise it’s going to involve a 7 hr journey each way with two nights away from home. And £220 for the train (plus parking, plus hotel, etc) I rather like zoom. @BMA_GP #LMCconf

@janhopi @cymrurouge Happily, in 1995 I was using email and instant messenger to chat *a lot* to my boyfriend at the time who lived 200miles away. Who knew?
