Pleased with the DM article that accurately sums up some of the values I live my life by (albeit they used some unkind words to do so), plus they chose a flattering photo. Anyone feeling solidarity with me is very welcome to donate to the Strike Fund too!

@KarlTurnerMP Hi Karl. The line for me was crossed when I had to perform CPR in an A&E corridor… …because resus was full due to a lack of staff elsewhere in the hospital… …whilst the Government simultaneously turned away thousands of qualified doctors from jobs. This was a half baked

“We need a serious long-term sustainable solution to this crisis, and that’s within the secretary of state’s gift.” Deputy co-chair @callumjparr speaking to @BBCNewsnight about the latest offer from government👇
“Do you think lives will be lost because of strike action?” “I don't” @bbcpaddy asks the BMA's Dr Callum Parr about the potential impacts of next week's planned strike by resident doctors in England. #Newsnight

Derogations are a final “break-glass” intervention by a union when safety mitigations by the employer have failed and unacceptable risks exist, and the worker’s right to strike is impacted. The BMA takes this responsibility seriously, and derogations are not granted lightly.

Heading Londonwards from visiting QMC in Nottingham to talk to obstetric doctors there (and management) about strikes and derogations. Clearly a department facing huge challenges, with doctors run ragged to make up for deep-rooted problems. Thank you for the frank discussions.

Wes Streeting Vs GPs & “Moaning Minnies” 🧐 We GPs & practices have offered millions of online consult requests for months - years for many of us - this isn’t news What is news, is that F2F GP appts are down. Pts will have to wait longer to see their GP. 1/x @wesstreeting

Sorry, whose pay is what now?! And this perverse pay disparity is even worse in London; A day 1 doctor = £19.71 / hr A day 1 assistant = £28.86 / hr That’s us all paying 46.4% more to a physician assistant than an actual physician. Make it make sense…

Speaking to @SkyNews yesterday, I wanted to make it clear we cannot have unemployed doctors searching for work while patients are waiting longer than ever for appointments. The solutions are simple and the problems are fixable. The gov has the money to fix both jobs and pay.

Thank you for this, @bbcnickrobinson - appreciate the clarification as several news stories about the BMA yesterday sprang from this mistake. It feels that integrity in journalism is rare these days so good to see it when it’s there. Looking forward to our next conversation.
Correction & apology : Yesterday the chair of @TheBMA @thomasdolphin was on @BBCr4today to defend the decision to call another round of resident doctor strikes. He was asked to respond to the criticism of the timing of the strike in the run up to Christmas after @NHSProvider

I asked the panel how we avoid making short term expedient workforce decisions that result in long term substitution of doctors - no obvious answers sadly, but Nicola Ranger rightly said doctors and nurses should not be pitted against each other; we are complementary professions!

Dr Kelly Ameneshoa talks about the experience of working in ED right now - takes 15 mins just to find a space to see a patient sometimes. Highlights dismal experience of residents in non-training posts, and the rhetoric around immigration impacting IMGs negatively.

At @TheKingsFund workforce event; @theRCN’s Nicola Ranger highlights that there are set legal ratios for how many dogs one person can walk, but no legislation about safe nursing staffing ratios. Talks about need for staff to feel trusted as clinicians again, not defensive/blamed.

After our last round of strike action, we gave @wesstreeting a window to deliver sufficient progress towards a viable deal on jobs and pay. That hasn’t happened. We’ve been given no choice but to return to the picket lines. #EndTrainingCrisis #PayRestoration

Glad not to have been *quite* the most casually dressed person at the "smart casual" GMC conference today - I fortunately bumped into @parthaskar who took the crown of Casuallest Attendee.
