Pleased with the DM article that accurately sums up some of the values I live my life by (albeit they used some unkind words to do so), plus they chose a flattering photo. Anyone feeling solidarity with me is very welcome to donate to the Strike Fund too!

Consultants went on strike in large part to fix our pay review process. Government ignored agreements on remit letter (upfront parameters), told the DDRB that the agreed Terms of Reference changes meant nothing and it seems ignored our comments on the new members. Break the body
Industrial relations aren’t a game. If you don’t hear and address workers’ grievances, it’s like a pot of boiling water: you can only keep the lid clamped down for so long. Stop fighting the caring professions and start listening when we tell you what’s going wrong.

The next Conservative Government will ban doctors from going on strike - just like we do for the army and police.

Claiming resident doctors have had a 28.9% “pay rise” is a misrepresentation of the facts. Resident Doctors’ pay remains over 20% down in real terms since 2008. It doesn’t matter which way you paint it; the part reversal of pay cuts is not a pay rise.
Resident doctors strikes are completely unnecessary and irresponsible. My team and I have been talking to the BMA in good faith and are prepared to negotiate on jobs and conditions. They’ve had a 28.9% pay rise. We can’t go further now. But we can address jobs and conditions👇🏻

“The talks have reached an impasse.” @TheBMA council chair @thomasdolphin speaks to @BBCBreakfast about why resident doctors have announced strike action in November.

There have been months of talks. We’re on the precipice of another job cycle. Tens of thousands of doctors will be turned away. Doctors need jobs & patients need doctors. Waiting lists up, patients in corridors. We need changes now to recruit & value doctors, not in 2 years.
"No credible Government offer was put forward despite months of talking." Read @BMAResidents chair @fletchjack's letter to @wesstreeting explaining why resident doctors have announced strike action in November.👇

Wow, this is absolutely reprehensible! Blacklisting workers for union activities is despicable and those who do it are breaking the law and must be held to account. Birmingham’s bin workers are well aware that there is something rotten at the top of the council. That’s why
🤯 You won't believe what this agency manager tells workers emptying bins in Birmingham! 😡 Have senior managers at a @UKLabour council really said they won't employ anyone who joins a picket line? Isn't that called #Blacklisting ? Shouldn't Labour-run @BhamCityCouncil be against

🚨STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY🚨 @BMALondon stands in total and unwavering solidarity with the NHS workers at Epsom and St Helier hospitals in their struggle to access the nationally agreed contracts of employment. We urge @geshNHS to put this right. #SolidarityForever✊🏼

Nicely done @BMAResidents, This was a huge undertaking of work to turn around this ballot so quickly. Very happy to have played a small part in it with @BMAstudents, so it's fab to see the result out today!
The results are in: 97.36% of FY1s in England voted YES for strike action. This puts the specialty training crisis firmly on the negotiating table, alongside #PayRestoration. Thank you to everyone who voted in the ballot. #EndTrainingCrisis

🏴We're finally able to share the resident doctor contract package details with you. This is a comprehensive deal that further restores pay, modernises T&Cs and helps deal with medical unemployment. We now want to hear from you, what do you think? https://t.co/F1hT3raCX2 1/2

The BMA has always changed to meet the needs of the profession over the 193 years we've been around. We're growing because doctors and medical students recognise that on all the issues we and our patients care about, together we are stronger, and together we will win. 🩺✊ /end

The point of the union is to collectivise our voices, so that doctors and students can speak on the full spectrum of issues we know about. The profession's views on everything from NHS redesign to doctor substitution to assisted dying to pensions reform all need to be heard. /6

We can often anticipate various consequences to reforms that non-doctors couldn't be expected to know, and we won't be shy about flagging them up. Change isn't a bad thing in itself, esp if the status quo is unsustainable, but change has to be thought through and purposeful. /5

Patient needs are also changing, and the health service has to evolve too. Doctors have driven a lot of that change in the past (often at local level) in GP and hospital settings. We are happy to help change happen but obviously have views about the best and safest way! /4

Nationally we continue to fight for full pay restoration, because doctors are not worth less now than they were in 2008. We're also engaging fully with the 10 Yr Health Plan in England, and with reforms and proposals in all four nations, because we are committed professionals. /3

That journey continues. We are building a stronger local presence that empowers members, who need to be able to collectively advocate for what's right, whether on clinical/operational problems or on pay and contractual issues. We are training reps around the country for this. /2

It's 29 years today since I joined @TheBMA. We've just reached 200k members, and we're a very different union to the one I joined in 1996. We're in a much stronger position to speak out for patients, and for doctors to stand together on the issues that matter to them. /1

@NuffieldTrust @IPPR @PauletteHamilto @MidwivesRCM @Assoc_Anaes Just realised the first tweet in this thread sounded slightly Sir Humphrey - I didn’t mean the goals were “optimistic” in the “a very brave decision, minister” kind of way, I was just describing that people were literally finding things in the plan that they are hopeful about

Pleasure to do this great panel hosted by @thefabians alongside Nicola Rayner (RCN) and Kevin McKenna MP. We covered workforce planning (lacking), AI in healthcare (unready) and how to get from here to the 10 Year Health Plan’s end points (unclear but may be for us to determine)
