Wow powerful and very sad!.Healthcare professionals in Belgium turning backs as their PM arrives as a demonstration against the handling of the pandemic. Belgium has one of the higest #Covid19 death rates in the world.

Who āhas a drinkā in a hospital staffroom? What is he talking about?.
"I don't think at any time he thought he was breaking the law. he thought just like many teachers and nurses who after a very long shift would go back to the staff room and have a quiet drink". Tory MP Michael Fabricant urges Boris Johnson to apologise.

This language of heroism & self-sacrifice around healthcare workers who died of #COVID19 is not helpful & shifts responsibility. These people had a job to do that they couldnāt quit. Theyāre victims of an occupational hazard & shouldāve been protected. They didnāt want to die š.

Iām a university professor whoās fluent in English. My kids achieve top marks at school including in English. So is this MP saying that if he hears me in the street talking to my own kids in a language other than English, then weāre not integrated? Weāre proud to be multilingual.
Conservative MP Tom Hunt, "If you walk into your town center, people speaking English is almost a rarity". Sophy Ridge, "That's not what people find, come on". Tom Hunt, "Lots of people when they walk into their town centers across the country often feel that way"

Iām fed up of people not introducing me by my titles in public forums. I am a Dr (medic & PhD). Iām an Associate Professor. I worked hard to gain these titles & I donāt give permission to omit them. Just because Iām an ethnic minority woman doesnāt mean that Iām just āNisreenā!.

It seems it takes famous men to declare they may have #LongCovid for it to be finally taken seriously. I wish them full recovery and also wish for women and non-famous people to be believed.

Woke up this morning & still canāt believe that soon no one will be financially supported to have a test or isolate if theyāre infectious with covid. The waiter, bus driver, carer, cleaner, supermarket workerā¦No way Iām gonna blame their āpersonal responsibilityā. Itās not fair.

@RishiSunak I donāt get it, Rishi. I really donāt. Your video tells the story of your immigrant family of which you seem to be proud, yet the Tory policies and narratives are so anti-immigrant. Will you continue in that divisive direction as a leader?.

Mass infection of kids with a virus less than 2 years old is not ethical, not moral, not scientifically evidenced, not socially just & medically risky. Thereās no good argument for this. And no, boosting population immunity to protect the adults is not a valid argument. #Childism.

If you want to argue that lots of #LongCovid is a sacrifice worth making for immediate āfreedomā please do so in a straightforward way by accepting the risk. Donāt trivialise it. Donāt deny its existence. Donāt imply those suffering with it are deluded. Thatās insulting & cruel.

The UK has now over a third #COVID19 deaths of the USās (15,464 versus 39,015) with under a fifth of the size of population. So no, UK unlikely to be no 2 in the world taking into account population size. Itās a strong contender for the first position in mortality. Devastating.

āLive with the virusā can be a particularly triggering term for people living with #LongCovid. Around a million of them in the UK. Choose something else to call failure to control the pandemic.

This day 2 years ago I had my first covid symptoms. I was told I shouldnāt worry. It would be just like a mild flu for me. It wasnāt. Science didnāt know about prolonged health effects then. Science now knows yet people are still being told itās a cold. No excuse. #CountLongCovid.

Donāt say āmigrantsā. Say refugees and asylum seekers. Donāt say until āthey get processedā. Say until their cases get assessed. And whatever you do, donāt describe a human being as illegal. An action can be illegal not an existence. Do your bit to stop the dehumanising language.

#LongCovid is new because covid is new, but the phenomenon of viruses causing long term illness & health damage is not new. The world has ignored it long enough and now weāre forced to face its seriousness because of the pandemic. Letās own our ignorance in this area & change it.

I see professor after professor now saying #LongCovid is a huge problem & I just canāt help wondering why didnāt they join us in warning the world about it in 2020? The burden of proof was on the patients, and still that was not enough. History was there too but it was ignored.

1/ SAGE paper on #COVID19 tranmission in children, dated 17 Dec, published 31 Dec. This paper was "approved prioer to the emergence of data on the new variant". It includes analysis on household transmission risk. THREAD.

I honestly canāt take anymore of this āin hindsightā talk about UK #COVID19 response. Things were obvious to sooooo many people and lots called out for drastic action from end of Feb. Thereās public record of this so all this hindsight stuff is an attempted rewriting of history.

Iām triple vaccinated with history of past infection but still feeling really unwell with this reinfection. I wonāt tell you itās in your hands to avoid it because a lot of the time it isnāt and thereās so much community transmission, but you may want to try. BA.2 is not a joke.
