We learned personal finance. We had a class called 'future consumers' where we learned how to write a check, balance a check book, budget on a salary, etc.
We also had math.
They didn't have to nuke our math curriculum to teach us life skills.

Monthly payments are tiny. No interest accumulates ever. All loans are forgiven in 10/20/25 years without a taxable event.
There is no student loan debt crisis anymore. It's a glorified income share program.

I went to community college, transferred with a 4.0 to my state flagship, graduated, worked in tech, 99th percentile LSAT, then a top tier law school.

If all you can say for yourself is you're self-taught, you are a dime a dozen.
