1. My newsletter BIG on monopoly power just went paid. You should subscribe. I'm surprised by the outpouring of support, but I shouldn't be. People hate monopolies because we hate being dependent on another's will. It's the humiliation. It's this image. https://t.co/XZ3U4kLUgq

The right defines American as rich right-wing Republican, so they have a dividing line, but it’s not a popular one. Arab princes and Argentine elites are more American to them than people who live here.

A coherent politics means you have to be a little chauvinist towards your own people. How you define your own people is a political question, but that there is a dividing line is table stakes for being in a democracy.

Try talking to Democrats about reforming the military. It just doesn’t make sense, since a nation state should using violence can’t be necessary.

That’s why there’s such hostility to tariffs now and why they can’t grapple with China. They don’t really see value in a nation-state, so the idea of re-shoring or addressing Chinese coercion makes no sense.

All of the GOP critiques of the Dems/lefties are essentially ‘Dems care about THEM not YOU’ and the attack works because it’s correct.

The problem democrats have with immigration isn’t about the policy, it’s that they don’t believe there are Americans and non-Americans and that America should treat Americans better than non-Americans.

Argentina's libertarian President Javier Milei is rapidly deindustrializing the economy, destroying local manufacturing. The sectors that are growing in Argentina are finance, mining, and agriculture (for export) -- parasitic extractive industries dominated by foreign capital.

That never hurt the Obama campaign any 🤷
Trumpers commenting on the lack of Black people at No Kings rallies. (As if they care.) Here’s the reason. It’s a Democratic Party astroturf campaign with no concrete demands that also pledges allegiance to imperialist foreign policy. Virtue signaling dressed up as a movement.

Correct. Even today, there isn’t a single primary against a Dem incumbent Senators.
Obama became president in large part bc (unlike HRC or John Edwards) he was unsullied by an Iraq War vote. However...it's not like he voted for *or* against the Iraq War. In Oct 2002 he was still a community organizer and not a politician. The Democrats in 2008, when they were

I was arguing in left outlets for NYC reindustrialization as far back as 2007--but the idea never took off. The post-Crash left never really embraced reindustrialization ethos, and after '14 the left's "political economy" orientation was around NGO sector.
Zohran Mamdani could truly baffle Trump and the superrich by establishing a task force to return manufacturing to New York City. The core long-term strategy was to turn NYC into a real estate-finance hub, instead of a shipping and manufacturing center.

So odd Post Ed Board goes after me to pass a bill allowing autonomous vehicles to enter DC’s market. It’s almost as if Post owner Jeff Bezos & Amazon also own the AV company Zoox currently lobbying the Council… Not sure I caught that disclosure anywhere.

Safety is a phony excuse for slamming the brakes on autonomous vehicles.

Lmao It’s almost like there’s something else going on that the Abundists refuse to account for:
The housing situation in FL/TX is peculiar because affordability is still poor but inventory is high, it’s not particularly hard to build, but homebuilders are struggling to make money at existing levels of demand/prices. Doesn’t fit into the YIMBY/Abundance box at all.

The thing you need to understand about TSMC is that a huge portion of this effort is performative and wasted. American engineers (including close friends of mine) left the company in droves not because the work was hard but because it was *inefficient*.
At TSMC, PhD-level engineers work in three rotating shifts. The fabs in Taiwan run 24 hours a day without stopping. Do you really think Americans would work like this? Or even want to? And let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that the work culture in the U.S. changes to make

The PRC planned to close Nexperia and move production to China. They’ve done this repeatedly after acquiring US companies (including a US rare earth magnet manufacturer). The Dutch government did the right thing. And China’s coercive response reveals the shape of Pax Sinica.

I'm against the death penalty, and I oppose political vendettas. But I made an exception for two types of people, (1) those who say 'friendly reminder' in emails and (2) those who name a book they've written "The Room Where It Happened"

Bolton has routinely communicated publicly about the dangers and illegality of what he himself was doing. I don't like Bolton, and it's obvious it's a political vendetta, but this isn't like the Tish James indictment. Bolton really did the bad thing.

Here's Bolton in 2017 on a U.S. official sending classified info on a non-classified email system. "Look, as I've said before, I believe it still to this day, if I had done at the State Department what [senior U.S. Government official] did, I'd be [imprisoned] right now."
