@eldsjal
You don’t have a right to do business on Apple’s platform on your terms. You didn’t build it. I also don’t get to decide under which conditions I can publish my music on Spotify.
@Altimor
Yes. As depressing as the EU regulatory environment is, the cultural atmosphere is worse. Lack of ambition, arrogance, scepticism our outright hatred of success, etc. - makes me sad to see such incredible potential go to waste
@ChrisDeLeon
There is nothing inherent in Reddit's business model that prevents it from being profitable. It's a website with community moderation & content. It's just severely mismanaged.
@PicoPaco17
Why? The expectation that you could make a product that's used by billions of people every day without having any negative consequences, is deeply unserious. Are CEOs of car manufacturers confronted with the families of victims of speeding and forced to apologize for their death?
@wanyeburkett
Haha it also works the other way around. I know a German guy in China who is called Hubertus. He introduces himself as Max to everyone because no one can pronounce or remember his real name

@Appyg99
If you love the fundamentals, but want to improve some specifics, that's healthy (e.g. Arnold). However, if you hate the fundamentals, and want to change several of those, then you're in the wrong place and what Apoorva said applies.
@PB_Dutch
@eldsjal
On what precisely does Apple have a monopoly? On how iPhones work? The idea that you can have a monopoly over how your own product works is a ridiculous idea
@tech_instigator
No, they use PVD coating. Extremely durable. Same coating as the Apple Watches and they have no such issues of scratches or discoloration.

CEOs don’t micromanage which keywords digital ads run on? This is a super in the weeds decision that fluctuates almost daily based on ROAS

What you're missing is this: making hardware reduces your addressable users in the first 5 years by 100,000x. On top, it increases the complexity of the company you need to build by 10x. In exchange, there is definitely an upside. But it's not worth it for a brand new startup.
@SamiFathi_
True. Watched every event the last 10y. For the first time I felt genuinely bored and was tempted to skip parts of the event. But even stranger is that something really felt weird/off and I can't put my finger on it.
@Cruxador
@eldsjal
Actually the EU has no moral right to tell me what kind of charging port my phone must have, or how apps are allowed to be installed on my phone. Unfortunately they do have a legal right, because people have forgotten what the purpose of a government is supposed to be.
@Bitcoin_Sage
@naval
Im in Hong Kong and 100% same story. Everyone extremely responsible. 99% wear masks. Avoid crowds. No lockdown - many people on the streets but no crowds. Almost no spread.
@sdw
Yes. Also no one should be able to tell Apple how to run the App Store. They made it and they own it. Why would we get to vote on how it works? If you don’t like it, don’t buy an iPhone.
@danluu
Compromises on usability can never be justified just to make things prettier. That's a horrible tradeoff. If they don't get that, then they are poor designers.
@delphi7393
@ChrisDeLeon
1) I made the NFT in my profile picture myself and didn't pay for it 2) Anyone who values their time would be stupid not to pay for less ads on Twitter 3) I'm the Founder & CEO of a tech startup. What are your credentials? 4) You literally misspelled business
@andrewjclare
Sold my mom's iPhone XR during Christmas for 180 EUR. Still worked flawlessly, looked decent and supported the latest iOS version. Phone is 6 years old! How well Apple devices age is actually insane

Unfortunately not all parts of the show are that accurate. People don’t just melt from radiation. Many such exaggerations
I can't believe this! We just put out our Kickstarter campaign for our brand new wearable, and after 15 minutes we've already hit our funding goal. This is a must see for any musician, check it out and share, share, share. THANK YOU!
@ilyamiskov
It looks ok but what is the point? An AI voice assistant? I already have one in my phone and watch that I never use. It’s pitched as a smartphone replacement but I love my smartphone and don’t want to replace it. Strange product.
@Noahpinion
I live in Hong Kong. It's full of skyscrapers and high quality infrastructure for far longer than 20 years. Nothing here feels run down or depreciated. Traveling to the West is always depressing. When I land at LAX it feels like I land in the Soviet Union.
@nikitabier
Past a certain price point this may be true so it depends on how you define expensive. You can definitely get way better tasting sushi/steak for $100 than for a $20
@binarybits
@AlecStapp
@mattyglesias
Um what moral claim do you have to someone else’s work? Save your money while you’re young, so you can afford when I steal your work when you’re old? Makes no sense.
@VadimYuryev
How would this happen while browsing social media though? Much more likely is that there are background processes running such as analyzing the photo library from just setting up the phone

My grandparents were from this area. Their farm and home were confiscated and redistributed. My grandmother had to flee the area and became a refuge in another part of Germany.

Other great predictions by you:
- Macy's is the future of retail, not Amazon
- By 2020 a third of computing will be done on voice-powered device without screens
- Twitter will collapse within 1 week after Elon Musk takeover
Surely the one about Apple's headset will age better 🤡
@benedictevans
Um, no it doesn't. With a Calendly link, you're presented usually with 100+ available meeting slots and can pick the most convenient for you. No matter the method, you'll always have to check your calendar and find a slot that works for you. Calendly adds 0 extra work for you.

Apple introduced number-change animations for the lock screen & dynamic island with iOS 16. They are the best I've seen - feels really great and fluid.

FYI Black Sheep Group is a large restaurant group with 20+ restaurants, many of them high-end - not some little joint with his friends. No way they are covering for him. Source: live in Hong Kong and eat in their restaurants all the time.

Thought the exact same thing. “Everything is relative” may sound wise, but it isn’t. To be fair, it’s true that there are evil and good people and acts on both sides of any war. But that doesn’t mean there can’t be a clearly good and a clearly evil side.
@rahmstorf
Unreliable electricity can not replace reliable electricity. On days when the wind is not blowing and the sun is not shining, less nuclear means more fossil fuels. Obviously.
@UltraLinx
Why? I have found it completely useless. For example, having a second clock is not necessary. My phone is on my charger when I'm using my MacBook and I have a clock right there without taking the eyes of my screen. What's the point?
We are hiring a senior embedded systems engineer in Berlin or Hong Kong. Join us for the opportunity to work on cutting edge wearables in a exciting music technology startup.
@TheAgeofShoddy
My family was from there. My great grandmother had to flee her farm, which became Polish territory. They lost everything. I have no resentment about this - neither do my parents. It's what happens if your government starts an immoral war. Everyone moved on generations ago.
@eldsjal
This is like saying it’s absurd that Spotify earns money when someone listens to music on Spotify because what if Spotify would earn money every time someone listens to music anywhere? Apple earns money if people buy stuff in App Store apps. That’s fine.

I believe in meritocracy. But imagine you are upper middle class, pay hundreds of thousands in taxes in your life time and then your kids don’t get to study, but someone else’s kids do. Would you be happy? No. Merit is for things you get paid, but not for things you have to pay
We are incredibly excited to announce that Soundbrenner products (wearables or mobile apps) are now used by more than 500,000 musicians every month. And we're just getting started. I authored a blog post with some fun tidbits here. Check it out!

Sorry - but not a smart take when Apple just revealed Vision Pro, the most ambitious consumer electronics product in history. Not surprising that iPhone 15 keynote (there have been 14 iPhones before that - let that melt on your tongue) is going to be boring.

It's a Swing/Jazz version of a German hip hop song that contains lots of swear words. Pretty funny. - The video is unofficial though - I'm guessing TikTok

If what you're trying to convey is true, then why is Germany, the country with the highest % of electricity from solar in the world, also the country with the most expensive electricity in the world?
