You shift from a system in which affluent kids are disproportionately in the advanced class to a system where the advanced class is now available *only* to those with parents who are rich enough and motivated enough to buy private lessons.

Cambridge Public Schools eliminated advanced math in middle school with the aim of reducing disparities between low-income children of color and their more affluent peers. But some families and educators argue the decision has had the opposite effect.

The US broke ground on 60 nuclear power plants between 1970-78 until 3 Mile Island halted new construction in 1979. Had we instead kept building at that pace, we'd have about 4.2 BkWh of nuclear generation today. Coincidentally, total US gen from all sources in '22 was 4.2 BkWh.
