SpaceX’s innovation is reusable rockets. Reusable rockets are insanely valuable technology. Starlink isn’t possible without reusable rockets. Starship will 10-100x the amount of mass per rocket that can be launched into LEO. And it is truly reusable - meaning you can launch it
SpaceX going public to pump money into AI & in-space datacenters... Pivoting the entire fate of SpaceX on an extreme chance, to fuel a risky venture completely separate from the actual vision of the company...Such a ridiculously stupid move if they actually go through with it.

Every few decades the country reaches a point where old assumptions lose their force. Institutions feel brittle. New structures want to form. This period feels like one of those hinge moments and tech has a responsibility to build with that in mind.
Two conversations this weekend make me think that there's a vibe shift afoot in Silicon Valley around what one should work on and what is worthwhile. Culturally, it feels like the moment is ripe for new frameworks: • Davos expert morality is stale and discredited. • It's also

How will Bernie attack data centers in space?
Mark Zuckerberg is building a data center in Louisiana that will use 3x more electricity than all of New Orleans. Oligarchs want YOU to pay for these data centers with higher water & electric bills. Americans must fight back against billionaires who put profits over people.

Hilarious that America's response to China building crazy amounts of solar is literally saying YOLO we are going to space with AI satellites.

@DrPhiltill @adamholtwrites SpaceX has way more satellites in orbit than the rest of the world combined, so maybe we know a thing or two about the subject 🤣 Starlink V3 will be 20kW and launched at scale around Q4 next year. No problem to scale that to >100kW if the satellite mass is shifted towards solar

It's the year 2028. Tesla makes the AI7 inference chip. xAI buys AI7 inference chip. xAI puts AI7 inference chip in Starlink AI satellite. Starlink AI satellite goes in Starship. Starship goes to space and drops off Starlink AI satellite in orbit. Tesla solar panels unfurl

Truly mind-blowing. The link between SpaceX's launch capacity + xAI's compute needs makes xAI the odds on favorite to win the AGI race. When you own 95%+ of the earth's launch capacity, and you can use that capacity to send as many chips as you want TO SPACE for your own AI
I will spell it out so everyone gets it: To win the AI race you need the most compute, data, and energy. Everyone is working within the same constraints: there's just one internet, just one GPU provider, same competition over data centers, energy suppliers, etc. Space changes

Can’t wait to see how longtime Tesla shareholders will receive priority in next year’s SpaceX IPO.
I’ve mentioned something like this before, but, if any of my companies goes public, we will prioritize other longtime shareholders of my other companies, including Tesla. Loyalty deserves loyalty.
