The Kardashev scale isn’t “sci fi world building” and anybody who says it is cares more about silly status games than actual science. However, it does have some issues, notably being unable to define energy usage meaningfully on Earth. So I’ve come the Dyson scale:

“Climate denial” does not mean denying the scientific consensus - science does not need such authoritarian protection - it means denying the political inferences Vince and his mates make from the science, which they falsely equate with science.
Good move from Ed, it’s time to tell it like it is. I’d make climate denial a criminal offense myself - given the incredible harm that it will cause, even by slowing down progress to net zero.

We started the space age at -28 on this scale, with the 50mW or so of solar capture on Vanguard 1, and then got to -19 a decade ago. Starlink had pushed us up to -18. So unlike the Kardashev Scale this can meaningfully measure things we care about in the near term.
