Wrong. It is English culture. A challenge rowing match between two of the oldest & most famous universities in the World & with World class crews. The course is 6,779m over rough tidal water. The normal Olympic distance is 2,000m on a flat lake.

The Elgin Marbles were legally acquired by a private individual before the modern Greek state existed & were looked after in British Museum for 150 plus years before the Greek government decided to take care of the Parthenon properly in 1975.

I don’t have a strong take on the Elgin Marbles - other than thinking it’s a bit like trying to decide reparations or charge everyone for their carbon footprint; insanely hard to work out “who owes what”. But Professor Alice Roberts being pro their return is no endorsement.
