PM told @theipaper et al: "The only area in which it will be mandatory is proving your right to work. Beyond that, totally voluntary. If you want to work, you’ve got to have it. That’s because we’ve got too many people who are working illegally, and we’ve got to clamp down on it"

Starmer relaunched digital ID yesterday - insisting that it *won't* be compulsory (unless you want to get a job or claim benefits!) He also denies that the policy will force people to carry smartphones: "If they do want an ID, we will make another form available to them"

Further evidence for what I've written about for @theipaper this week. After a blip following Covid, crime is generally on a downward trend in the UK. But you wouldn't know it from social media

Social media videos are fuelling a potent line of attack on Labour's mayors - but what is the reality?

Some big reductions in gilt yields in recent days. It's unclear whether or not the OBR have already closed their forecast window, and so unclear whether it will feed directly into Budget calculations, but it's good news for the Chancellor regardless.
