Therfore, votes at 14? Votes at 10? Votes at 7? Presumably Lewis would pompously opine that any objections to those are also the exact same arguments as before.
Intriguing to hear so many of the objections to votes at 16 today. Consciously or otherwise, so many are exactly the same arguments which were used about every single extension of the franchise since the 19th century.

Why we won't rejoin the EU: some thoughtful polling. Britain quite likes the idea of being in the EU, so long as the EU changes to be something different. But the EU doesn't wish to do that, so it continues to offer us the same take-it-or-leave-it deal that we reject.
EuroTrack: Europeans would support the UK rejoining the EU. 🇩🇰 72% support.🇩🇪 63%.🇪🇸 60%.🇫🇷 53%.🇮🇹 51%.(🇬🇧 54%). But there's a catch. Results link in following tweets

At least the mediaeval priesthood wore their hair shirts themselves. Today, their descendents impose ascetic discomfort on everyone else while themselves wearing silk and brushed cotton.
A Guardian columnist argues that widespread air-conditioning is 'philosophically problematic' because 'the screaming urgency to tackle the collective issue of a world on fire can recede slightly.' . She has an AC unit herself, of course.

London's population has grown by about 11% during this time, so the Mayor is boasting that the average Londoner is 3.5% worse off today when he was first elected. Hardly surprising with a Mayor more concerned with spending than growth.
I’m proud of what City Hall and London’s businesses have achieved together since I became Mayor:. ➡️ 800,000 new jobs in our city. ➡️ London’s economic output up by at least seven per cent, despite multiple economic shocks. Plus ⬇️.

An obvious criticism of this is that the biggest hurdles to EV take-up are 1) the cost of electricity and 2) the lack of a driveway. A non-obvious criticism is that while China subsidises making EVs, we subsidise buying them. So guess what happens.

Buying an electric van or car is set to become cheaper and Labour is also poised to unveil subsidies for chargers at delivery depots and homes without driveways

A brighter future for Britain - keep us warm in winter, cool in summer, dispense with bulky radiators. 🙌.
🔥On steaming hot days like today it's worth recalling that the UK govt's heat pump scheme is actively pushing people away from investing in green heating systems that also do air conditioning. It's one of the most baffling blind spots in policy. From a recent column👇

First, Sir Keir said "island of strangers" and meant it. Then he admitted he just reads things they put in front of him, plus he was tired, so didn't really mean any of it. Now, he's remembered that he agreed with it the whole time. The leadership of a dog chasing its own tail.
EXCL: Starmer insists he still believes in the sentiment behind his “island of strangers” warning - and that Britain must be an “integrated society”. PM clarifies he does not regret the speech, just that particular phrase because of Powell similarity.
