Far-right ideas are infiltrating mainstream politics. Leaders across the political spectrum are pushing increasingly hostile anti-immigration policies, scapegoating and dehumanising people of colour, to distract from economic, social, and political turmoil
BREAKING: The High Court has ruled that the Government’s appointment of Dido Harding and Mike Coupe to senior emergency healthcare jobs without competition was unlawful
It could not be more obvious that Britain has problem with institutional and systemic racism. We do not need any more apologies or investigations without action.
We need policy and a practice upheaval which will support ethnic minority people at all stages of their lives.

In a general election year, nothing should be more important to our political leaders than making things better for the country’s poorest kids.
Last year Boris Johnson's govt were approached by

Today, we remember the life and enduring legacy of Stephen Lawrence, an aspiring architect who was murdered by racist strangers as he made his way home 30 years ago
Rest in Eternal Power, dear Stephen 🕊
Stephen Lawrence, 13.09.1974 - 22.04.1993
55 years ago today, Enoch Powell gave his poisonous "Rivers of Blood" speech, filled with claims about 'alien inflows' and 'fraudulent entry'.
We were founded the same year.
The 'Illegal' Migration Bill returns to Parliament next week, with that same dehumanising rhetoric. 🧵
While we are embroiled in Downing Street parties, ethnic minority people across the UK are facing one of the most significant threats to their civil rights in recent memory.
An onslaught of legislation is in parliament this month, here's what you need to know 🧵
Today marks 29 years since the senseless murder of Stephen Lawrence.
We must use Stephen's legacy to make positive strides to eradicate institutional and systemic racism in the police, and across the UK.
Let's serve him that justice.
Rest in power, Stephen 🕊️

Conversations about the 'left-behind white working class' have made a return to the political scene in recent weeks. Below is a thread about Runnymede's recent work in this area and how pitting 'race' and class against one another serves nobody well /1
The plan to scrap the Human Rights Act in the

This is a gross erasure of how the UK built its wealth. The C of E, Guardian and Lloyds are prominent examples that openly show how our church, media and financial systems are rooted in colonialism and slavery

Shocking.
This is exactly why we must broaden the curriculum. Teaching and learning Black British histories is essential for our understanding of the world we live in. It's in all our best interests.
The government's new extremism definition is an attack on civil society
It has bypassed parliamentary scrutiny and will likely shut down organisations supporting people of colour, who are critical of the government of the day 🧵
Labelling Caribbean communities, and the celebration of them, as 'dangerous' plays to racial tropes.
These communities were Notting Hill until gentrification forced them out. They have every right to take to its streets and honour the area's rich history.
A slap on the wrist for officers responsible for the strip search of Child Q can't begin to tackle the systemic racism that makes Black children 6x more likely to experience such violations at the hands of police.

The Rwanda Bill trades on racist narratives.
It scapegoats and dehumanises the most vulnerable people - disproportionately people of colour - nurturing the conditions for racism.
It is a terrible indictment of our political system that it has passed.
Incredibly sad to hear on

that 90% of doctors to have died from Covid were from ethnic minority backgrounds. Equally sad that this is unsurprising.
The IOPC confirm that Chris Kaba was unarmed when the Metropolitan Police pursued, shot and killed him on Monday. He was 24, and due to become a father.
This is the second unarmed Black man killed at the hands of the Met in just 3 months.
The Policing Bill is a bill of enormous and alarming proportions.
A crack down on everything from the right to protest to expanding the use of stop and search powers, it constitutes draconian measures which will entrench racial discrimination and curtail civil liberties.
Today, MPs are debating the Elections Bill, which would make it mandatory to show photo ID when casting a vote at local and national elections.
This would disenfranchise millions of voters, in attempt to solve an electoral fraud problem which doesn't exist.
If BME groups are disproportionately dying because they are more 'susceptible' to Covid, why aren't the same trends seen in countries where they are the majority? Runnymede's data analyst

The Borders Bill is a wholesale attack on refugee, migrant & British ethnic minority peoples' rights.

Utterly shocking video over the weekend of a woman being arrested over a £1.75 bus fare (which she had paid), in front of her son.
It reflects the traumatic everyday policing Black people experience from cradle to grave.
£1.75 bus fare
She had paid
No criminal offence
Could have been an opportunity to show proportionate policing & deescalation.
Instead you left a little boy in tears surrounded by multiple uniformed officers as they arrest his mother.
Then you described her as abusive.
The UK has enough jobs and resources to go round, it is a political choice that so many are locked out of opportunity and living in poverty.
Leaders across the political spectrum cannot continue to distract from the cost-of-living crisis by scapegoating people seeking safety.
Remembering Belly Mujinga, a rail worker who died from COVID-19 after being spat at while working. Belly's employer failed to protect her in a pandemic which disproportionately killed Black people.
Her story reflects the injustices working-class Black women face in this country.
