Historical precedent shows the only way for Labour to hit its housing target, without sacrificing the standard of homes being built, is a significant level of state intervention, via extensive council house building, says @pimlicat - to vigorous nodding by @abioconnor_. ~AA

"If we took the position of the Conservatives, which is to withdraw from the European Convention and other international instruments, who is going to work with us upstream? It's Brexit 2.0 from the party opposite." @TonyVaughanMP having a very good debate on asylum. ~AA

NEW: Labour MP Polly Billington reacts to the suspension by Reform UK of four Kent County Councillors. The East Thanet MP accuses Council Leader Linden Kemkaran of presiding over “chaos” and “unprofessionalism” at Kent County Council. @itvmeridian

Utterly horrific and perfectly explained by @maitlis. ~AA
“Many think one woman is paying the price for men’s crimes… but it’s Maxwell 𝘢𝘯𝘥 Epstein who are abusing her.” Virginia Giuffre’s exposé lays bare just how deeply involved Ghislaine Maxwell was in grooming women for Epstein. @maitlis | @jonsopel

🔥"They initially criticised the gov't for intervening. When it became absolutely clear that we hadn't, they criticised us for not intervening. I wonder if [they] have, at any point, considered some humility to acknowledge that these activities took place on their watch." ~AA

Dan Jarvis confirms that, not only was there no Home Office involvement in witness statements of Deputy NSA regarding the China spying case, but the CPS made this *a requirement*. Wouldn't the then Home Sec Cleverly and HO ministers Philp, Jenrick, and Tugendhat know this?🧐~AA

It's not entirely satire any more. ~AA
Sir Keir Starmer is refusing to describe China as a threat to Britain’s national security Pressed repeatedly his official spokesman points to the statement by Matt Collins, the deputy national security adviser, in his statement ahead of collapsed China spy trial That evidence

Do you think ND understands that this doesn't strengthen her arguments about immigration, but is more evidence of Putin's attempt to help compromised parties like hers? ~AA

Breaking - PM *will* attend Cop climate summit in Brazil next month - had been widely expected not to go but No10 says it will show commitment to climate action and net zero

He went on for about five minutes with his prepared attack. Then tries to come in thirty seconds into @pimlicat's turn? I DON'T THINK SO. Side issue: What a WEIRD definition of Brexit success to say "some people made money"...
Delicious smackdown of Tory MP by our @pimlicat. "It's fantasy economics to suggest anything other than leaving the single market has detrimentally impacted our economy... It is finally the political discourse catching up with economic reality." Plus that barb at the end. 💅🏽~AA

"It is business as usual at Kent County Council," says the Reform leader. The suspensions were because councillors "brought the party into disrepute". How did they do that? Umm... <checks notes> by sharing video of what we are actually like.🤣😂~AA https://t.co/ZfiZE5UORo
bbc.co.uk
The suspensions come after footage was leaked of a heated virtual meeting of Kent councillors.

I don't blame you for not caring. [Thanks.] This does seem implausible. [It is.] So, I will try again. [Please don't.] This reads both as a wounded cri-du-cœur at RW papers paying more attention to Reform and total incomprehension at X-bot likes not mapping onto real voters. ~AA

Maybe we just have to wait and see the OBR's own explanation, rather than rejecting it speculatively, just because it does not fit a preferred narrative. ~AA
Two problems with the 'Brexit blame game'... 1⃣ even if you buy the OBR's assumption of a 4% long-term hit to productivity (I don't), this is nothing new (it was first made in 2016). So how does that explain the expected downgrade in next month's Budget? 🤔

NEW At the key international economic committee of finance ministers and central bankers, the IMFC, Chancellor Rachel Reeves chose to stress how the 2020 Brexit deal has “compounded” the UKs long term productivity, “acknowledging” the 4% long term hit calculated by the OBR…

"Until recently, a consensus existed that we were a country of free traders, looking outwards... The anti-globalisation voices were on the fringes. We should not exaggerate the extent to which the debate has shifted." Very good summary by @DavidGauke. ~AA https://t.co/Rbpub4XQW9

There may be good arguments why we do not want to trade with a country or, at the least, putting barriers in place. We should certainly be sanctioning Russia, and there are good reasons to be wary...

Even more interesting: "Reform declined to set up “accounting units” with the Electoral Commission, as is common practice. These allow local branches to raise money without counting towards the national party’s income." All about iron-fist central control of the grift. ~AA
"Nigel Farage’s party vowed to repay any money that might be owed to the taxman after an investigation by The Times into its finances." Like they are doing the country a solid by paying the tax they *actually* owe. ~AA https://t.co/fCTUNFqqkz

Nigel Farage’s party could face fines as documents indicate it failed to notify HMRC that it was required to pay extra tax
