If you're a fund manager and struggling to raise capital don't be discouraged. Many of the best firms and managers started with small funds. Caffeinated Capital Fund I was $1M and returned 20x+ @EniacVC Fund I was $3M It's ok to start small. Don't have to play the AUM game.

Couldn't agree more and the data confirms this. Over a decade there are 30-35 decacorns ($10B+) started = an average of ~3 started every year. The number is even smaller if you consider recent markdowns and the expected valuations at IPO (and post-lockup).

SpaceX is a platform which is wild bc its hardware. They changed the economics of launch which in effect allowed for the creation of other companies - such as @VardaSpace - to literally be built on top of it. I think a similar event will happen in synbio.

Perhaps ironically, I think Pipe Ventures ( @pipe ), which is not a thing yet, will be one of the most successful early-stage investors. They'll focus on B2B/SaaS, pre-PMF startups and retain large % of equity through Piping subsequent growth which creates a virtuous flywheel.
