@BarackObama
I love politicians who choose to send their own kids to private school, as Barack and Terry did, yet then oppose school choice for others of lesser means. “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others….”
@TheChiefNerd
@Gary_D_Cohn
nailed it. The Dems think they have a “messaging” problem, when - in reality - they have a math problem.
The unfortunate truth is that many “progressive” policies are inflationary, and inflation is ultimately a regressive tax on the poor.

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is supposed to be used - as the name implies - for STRATEGIC sovereign concerns, NOT for political gain as was the case.

Ditto - I consider myself a “rational optimist” and love reasons to be sunny, but realistically see only political, social and economic clouds on the horizon. It is the 10th anniversary of

Here is the US without the electoral college. The House is representative. The Senate and electoral college make sure the smaller states aren’t subjected to the tyranny of the majority. For those living in California, under
@GavinNewsom
it is indeed tyranny. Feature not a bug.
@TimRunsHisMouth
Out here in California, we’re just hoping the government can keep the power on, the water running and finally get kids back in school.

My firm moved from FiDi because it was starting to look like a set from the Walking Dead. We’re now in the Presidio, which is federally administered and spotless. Our next move will be out of state, for what should be self-evident reasons.

How sickeningly ironic: the Superintendent of “Equity” was a blatantly nepotistic hire.

@GavinNewsom
Gavin, you preside over a state with the highest functional poverty rate in the country - only the 1% can afford to live in California. My father lives well in Florida on a fixed income, but would be poverty-stricken in CA. America is NOT going to vote for CA-style dysfunction!

💯 disingenuous. Fact Check: GDP growth is not shared prosperity as you MUST know. What is it about blue states that drives CA to have the HIGHEST FUNCTIONAL POVERTY rate if any state in America? Also, CA ranks DEAD LAST in opportunity, at

, according to US News rankings.

RE: 9% income tax - no, the marginal rate is 50% higher than that! And SB951 just raised the marginal rate AGAIN via SDI going from .9 to 1.1% and uncapping the former $153,164 max. CA’s new marginal rate is 14.63%!

pushing AB5 to punish the gig companies yet then granting waivers to favored industries, like the RIA? CA is a corrupt state controlled by special interests.
@latimes
It’s getting worse: SB951 will raise the marginal rate AGAIN to 14.4% in 2024 to pay for more “progressive” pandering. How much is enough

The Presidio is a dream and example of what S.F. could be if managed well. Further perfection can be found in the Letterman Complex, which George Lucas owns via 99 year ground lease. It is meticulously maintained as a private enclave within the Presidio Park.
@ShellenbergerMD
Don’t be fooled by
@GavinNewsom
hedging his political bets in the short-term since, “a spokesperson for the governor clarified that Newsom still wants to see the facility shut down long term.” His policy will be based on whichever way the political winds are blowing.
@bariweiss
It is completely incoherent & incomprehensible to me that the supposedly most progressive city & state in the world are considering reparations, yet simultaneously enslaving the current generation of minorities. SF’s K12 system has an 18% proficiency for English & 9% for math.
@ShellenbergerMD
To highlight how how upside down CA policy is, the death penalty remains legal but has not been imposed due to
@GavinNewsom
executive fiat, yet assisted suicide is illegal (non-terminal) but apparently being practiced under the supervision of
@rgarymccoy
&
@HealthRIGHT360
in SF.
@StealthQE4
They’re not wrong. My dad’s independent living facility in Naples, FL just raised rent/board 23.6% over just the past 2 years due to “significant wage increases and substantial increases in the cost of food, fuel, supplies and utilities.” Inflation is a regressive tax.
@GavinNewsom
Fact check: FALSE. The number of visitors is still down from peak and so is spending on a real basis (after backing-out inflation).
Do the Mothers Against Drug Addiction and Death need to put up billboards again to remind people that SF leads in Fentanyl tourism?
@BrandonRichards
So what I’m hearing is that it’s great to be poor in California? There is no absolute “right” level of taxes, what matters is tax dollars being efficiently rendered into services or the ROI.

@ZavalaA
Incredible to me that both

California is a statist version of the Hunger Games, with 18% living in functional poverty while the 1% - including

Thomas Frank’s latest is also caustically insightful on this topic: “In a democracy, a faction that chooses to go about its business by admiring its own moral goodness and scolding average voters as insensitive clods is a faction that is not interested in winning.”

Such a great book, as is his latest: “The People, No” where Frank states, “In a democracy, a faction that chooses to go about its business by admiring its own moral goodness and scolding average voters as insensitive clods is a faction that is not interested in winning.” Bingo.
@SFist
Ah, yes, it is a “narrative.” Did you see that 350 California Street, a nearly vacant office building, just sold for $225 Sq ft or 75% off prior value? That is a key market-based datapoint as to how badly poor “progressive” policies have damaged a formerly great city.
@SoCalGoulah8
Turns out you can’t do math.
The avg property tax RATE needs to be applied to avg home VALUES to determine property tax REVENUE. On this metric, CA is among the 10 most expensive. There is no torturing any math to make CA look “cheap” - it is not.
@michelletandler
Think about how pathetic that position is: voting to recall a progressive, not because their policies have been objectively disastrous, but because those same policies make a viable argument for more conservative politicians & policy - apparently what the electorate really wants.
