Under my leadership the San Francisco District Attorney's office will work diligently every single day to restore order to our city and to bring our city back to being the beautiful city that we know it is and the world renowned place that everybody loves to come visit.
I told the public that on day one I will begin enforcing drug crime law. I mean what I say and I am focused on delivering on my promise to hold serious and repeat offenders accountable for wreaking havoc in our communities like the Tenderloin.
New San Francisco D.A. Brooke Jenkins has ordered a review of dozens of drug cases in which the office extended plea offers under her predecessor, Chesa Boudin, and may revoke some of those pending offers.
There are no victimless crimes and we have to send a strong message that repeat offenders will face consequences for their actions if they continue to choose a life of crime.
Chesa Boudin wants reporters to publish that San Franciscans are falsely imagining a lack of safety. We aren’t imaging it, it’s not just a feeling. It’s a reality. We don’t have security to protect us like he does. We are at risk 24/7.
We have now turned the corner on the culture in San Francisco with respect to retail theft. I have made it clear that we will prosecute those who commit theft in our City.
No longer can we view retail theft as a low level crime. No longer can we view it as less serious.
I extend my thanks and gratitude to the voters of San Francisco for placing their trust in me to serve as District Attorney.
It is an honor of a lifetime to be elected and I pledge that improving and promoting public safety will be my and our office’s top priority.
We are back to fully enforcing our laws — all crime is illegal in San Francisco again. I am committed to continuing this work to ensure that crime continues to go down + most importantly that our residents & visitors feel safe.
Thank you
@JohnAvlon
for having me on
@cnni
.
I want to extend my sincerest condolences to Mr. Lee’s family members & loved ones for his loss. We do not tolerate these horrific acts of violence in San Francisco.
At this time no arrests have been made. Anyone w/ information is asked to call
@SFPD
Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444.
The creator of Cash App and former chief technology officer at Square was killed in a stabbing Tuesday in San Francisco, according to people who knew him and police.
For the past year +, the previous administration did not earn one conviction for fentanyl.
We have to send a strong message that you will face consequences and potentially jail time for dealing fentanyl.
SFDA Chesa Boudin deflects blame on everything and everyone else for our crime issues in SF. Today, I will begin sharing specific case examples to prove how he is refusing to hold offenders accountable and lying to voters. Let’s start with guns…
Every day our prosecutors go into court + fight for justice & public safety. Yet, almost daily they are met w/ staunch resistance within the courthouse. Not only was this victim denied justice, but all San Franciscans were left less safe today due to this reckless decision.
Anh “Peng” Taylor was stabbed by Daniel Cauich in 2021 in broad daylight. Three years later, a San Francisco judge sentenced Cauich to five years of probation and supervision programs.
The killing of Banko Brown was a tragedy & my heart breaks for his friends & family.
After careful review, we are not pursuing murder charges at this time because of credible evidence of reasonable self-defense.
It is my duty to follow the law & evidence wherever it may lead.
Under my watch, utterly vicious attacks like this one will never be tolerated in San Francisco. Violent offenders will be held accountable for their actions.
James Spingola told The Chronicle he is recovering with a bone fracture under his eye and multiple stitches over his eyelid. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said the suspect is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and with causing great bodily harm.
I am thrilled to announce new members of my management team of experienced prosecutors that will help our office deliver on my promise to improve public safety, hold offenders accountable, advocate for victims, and enact smart criminal justice reforms.
BREAKING: Newly appointed S.F. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has chosen a cadre of women to lead her management and transition teams.
Here are the key figures:
We can not turn a blind eye to targeted violence against our AAPI community, especially our elders. Violence is never acceptable & we must hold these attackers accountable. Please help
@SFPD
w/ any info or call the tip line at: 415-575-4444.
@DionLimTV
One of my first priorities was to hear from our Chinatown community who have been targeted by violence & crime. I reassured our residents & merchants that my office & I have their backs. I don't want anyone to be fearful any longer about the lack of accountability for criminals.
No longer is dealing drugs in our City acceptable, nor will it be tolerated.
We do have a war on fentanyl. It must be removed from our streets, and it will be – all hands on deck.
We must protect our most vulnerable. A 65 y/o Asian elder was punched in face in the Richmond District today. Attacks on our AAPI community are now a regular occurrence & must stop. My office will work w/
@SFPD
to fully investigate & hold the offender accountable.
#StopAsianHate
For the past two years, we tried the previous administration’s approach to holding drug dealers accountable.
It is clear to me, and I believe to everyone in San Francisco, that it was a failed approach and we need to embark on a new direction.
BREAKING: DA
@BrookeJenkinsSF
announced an aggressive, three-pronged new strategy for prosecuting drug dealers Wednesday morning.
Get the details at the link. ⬇️
Following
@SFPD
's investigation & reviewing all the evidence provided, my office has issued an arrest warrant for Collier Gwin. Gwin is charged w/ misdemeanor battery for the alleged intentional & unlawful spraying of water on & around a woman experiencing homelessness on 1/9/22.
I met w/ SOMA merchants to hear their most pressing concerns: property crime, drug dealing & repeat offenders. Their livelihoods are at stake. I want to be clear that SF will no longer be a safe haven for those committing these crimes. There will be accountability & consequences.
My statement following yesterday's Golden Gate Bridge demonstrations.
The
@SFDAOffice
is committed to ensuring that SF is safe for everyone who lives in & enters our city. While we must protect avenues for free speech, the exercise of free speech cannot compromise public safety.
Eradicating drug dealing in San Francisco is my top priority.
Thank you
@SFPD
who have increased drug dealing arrests, leading to almost 2x as many narcotics cases filed than under the previous DA. My office is in desperate need of additional resources to prosecute these cases.
Having spent 7 years in the DA’s office, I’ve never heard of DA’s pressuring staff to withhold evidence and submit misleading warrants to judges. These corrupt practices are further proof that Chesa Boudin must be recalled.
We have a perception among people in SF that there aren’t consequences. We have to change that culture here and we're doing it day by day, since I took over.
@KPIXtv
@BettyKPIX
I came into this profession to seek justice for victims of crime. I understand the pain of Banko's friends, family, & community.
My office has to adhere to our ethical obligation – in every case we look at the law, facts, & all evidence as a whole.
When I assumed my role as the District Attorney, I promised action against drug dealers and open-air drug markets in the Tenderloin. We have charged almost double the amount of cases in the period since I took over compared with the previous year.
This afternoon I met the mothers leading the fight to keep kids from losing their lives & futures to fentanyl
@StopDrugDeaths
. I’m committed to doing everything in my wheelhouse so that another mother doesn’t lose their child to a drug overdose.
1/ Supervisor Peskin is sadly showing his ignorance & complete lack of understanding of how the criminal justice system works.
My office’s jurisdiction begins only after an arrest is made & a case is presented by law enforcement for charging.
If someone commits a crime, & we can prove it, I will vigorously prosecute the case every time. The Bonham & Nelson case in connection to a suspected carjacking is very complex. My office discharged this case because more investigation is required to properly charge this case.
We cannot let violent attacks against anyone, or any community, go unaddressed. Our office filed felony charges today to against former Commissioner Chew's attacker to make clear that violent offenders will face consequences for their actions.
For too long San Franciscans’ concerns about public safety have gone unheard. As the city’s new District Attorney, I know that the paramount task of my office is to promote public safety.
Ramos was found w/ enough fentanyl to kill 1.5M people (2x SF pop.). He has prior drug convictions & is likely providing drugs to other low-level dealers. He’s not someone who should be out on the streets while this case is pending given the public safety threat he presents.
Rhetoric and falsehoods. Ask him to prove one drug dealer he’s actually held accountable, including those selling fentanyl. Misdemeanors, diversions and dismissals are what they are getting.
As a new parent, I can only guess at the pain this death must have created for her family. No words can make up for their loss.
I am committed to action.
We must make it easier to get help than it is to get high.
We will work together to hold dealers accountable.
Responsible reform does not have to come at the expense of public safety and public safety does not have to come at the expense of reform. As your District Attorney, I vow - I promise, to balance both in the pursuit of justice and safety for all.
Yesterday, I officially filed my candidacy for San Francisco District Attorney! I’m so grateful for the supporters and friends who came out to share this moment with me. It is truly an honor and a privilege to be serving the people of San Francisco.
It is not progressive to allow our residents to die from these deadly drugs.
It is not progressive to have residents in the TL & SOMA live in fear of just being outside in their neighborhood.
It does not further reforms to allow repeat offenders back on the streets.
We will not allow drug dealers to kill innocent people & those suffering from addiction. My office has begun admonishing suspected dealers in open court to warn them that any death attributed to any drug they sold may result in a murder charge.
San Francisco needs and deserves a DA who is not driven by politics or ideology but rather by a desire to seek true justice for all. The DA must be an advocate for victims and THE PEOPLE.
For the past 2+ years, drug dealing was essentially decriminalized in SF by the previous administration.
Today, I joined
@LondonBreed
,
@SFPDChief
, &
@mattdorsey
to announce new stats about the progress we're making + to discuss how we're holding dealers accountable.
650 opioid overdose deaths in San Francisco in 2021, yet SFDA Chesa Boudin refuses to hold drug dealers accountable and opposes
@LondonBreed
Tenderloin Emergency Plan. When will victims matter? Drug dealing is not a victimless crime.
After touting that he was filing felony charges against the union square looters because they “committed felony conduct”, two of them have now received misdemeanor pleas. There is ZERO accountability under Chesa Boudin. Crime rate is directly linked to his failed policies.
Two months after San Francisco businesses were targeted by looters, we are now getting a sense of how justice is shaping up for those arrested in connection with the brazen Union Square burglaries.
The crimes that Ramsey is accused of are horrific. My office, on behalf of the victims, and every San Franciscan who is fed up with brazen violence like this, will stand for justice and seek to hold him accountable for his crimes.
1/ Today, District Attorney
@BrookeJenkinsSF
announced that Oakland resident James Lee Ramsey has been charged in connection to an unprovoked attack on an 88-year-old Asian American woman on the unit block of Ellis Street.
San Franciscans want a District Attorney committed to balancing accountability with much needed reform. My hope is that we carry a renewed faith and build a future great city to what it can and should be.
Thank you for entrusting me to do this job – it’s the honor of a lifetime.
Our sanctuary city enhances public safety & trust between our communities & law enforcement.
But, our policy was never intended to protect those who commit heinous crimes.
I am seeking a limited exception to bring justice for these victims.
Chesa Boudin does not hold criminal offenders accountable and now the data proves that. Conviction rates have plummeted. His diversion rates have skyrocketed but what most don’t know is that he is abusing those programs which explains why they aren’t working.
When I meet Chesa supporters they often tell me that he is holding police accountable. That’s dead wrong. What cop has he successfully prosecuted and what police case has he filed that isn’t riddled with claims of unethical conduct by his office. He’s failing at this.
Thank you to the Tenderloin community leaders, residents, & small business & property owners that met with me this morning discuss how we can work together to address the crisis on our streets. I am committed to helping all of our diverse neighborhoods become safer & stronger.
Our campaign's first ad - "Holding Drug Dealers Accountable" - is now live!
I have made addressing our open air drug markets & connecting those suffering from addiction to treatment a top priority.
We're making progress, but are just getting started!
Stealing cell phones from unsuspecting victims on public transit has become far too common around the Bay Area + San Franciscans are not going to tolerate it. Far too many residents & families rely on public transit to move about our city daily + deserve to be safe while riding.
1/ District Attorney
@BrookeJenkinsSF
announced today the conviction of San Francisco resident Deandre Gippson for grand theft after a trial by jury.
Mr. Gippson was convicted of grand theft for stealing an iPhone from a 69 year-old woman.
"What I’m hoping is that we no longer see 30 or 40 drug dealers out on the street on a single block anymore. That’s the goal. We are taking the steps to deter those who think that coming to sell drugs in SF is without risk."
The era of consequence-free smash-and-grabs and brazen retail theft is over.
This jury’s verdict sends a loud and clear message that this behavior will not be tolerated and that those who seek to engage in this conduct will be held accountable and face consequences.
1/ Today, District Attorney
@BrookeJenkinsSF
announced the conviction of Daron Wilson after a trial by jury.
Mr. Wilson burglarized a Walgreens on Market St on 11/19/21. He was convicted of burglary during a state of emergency, second-degree burglary & resisting an officer.
Last evening I met with residents on the Westside to hear their concerns and about the public safety issues affecting their neighborhoods. We discussed my plans to help tackle property crime and the team effort it will take to do so.
My heart is broken for Mr. Tewelde’s family. No arrest has been made yet & I urge anyone w/ info to please contact
@SFPD
. Help us identify & locate the robber who is responsible for this heinous attack, so we can hold him accountable & seek justice for Mr. Tewelde’s family.
A San Francisco shopkeeper died Tuesday from injuries he suffered during a violent robbery at his Richmond District store, according to a family representative.
The sale of fentanyl represents one of the most significant public safety risks that we see in San Francisco.
It is the equivalent as handing someone a loaded gun, and we have to treat it as such.
Chesa Boudin keeps touting that he designated an assistant DA in the office as the Hate Crimes prosecutor as if that is something new. I was the Hate Crimes prosecutor for nearly 2 years under Gascon. There were others before me and others after. That’s nothing new.
The brutal attack on Mrs. Ren was disturbing and heartbreaking. We will hold the perpetrators accountable and do everything in our power to stop the violence and restore a sense of safety to the community.
We're laser focused on continuing the work & progress we're making.
“I am putting my foot on the gas, as it has been for the last four months. San Francisco is no longer a haven for crime,” Jenkins said Wednesday...“The free pass is over.”
Pulled from today’s SF Chronicle article - twirling his pen, no eye contact, didn’t want to be there - says the mother of a murdered 6 year old about meeting with Chesa Boudin. These are the Black voices that he ignores and tries to silence because they don’t feed his agenda.
When someone reaches 5 citations for public drug use, that's a clear signal that they're in a crisis & need support. My office is focused on targeting dealers who are bringing illicit drugs - in particular, highly potent fentanyl - onto our streets.
One year ago voters elected me as the District Attorney of San Francisco. We’ve accomplished so much in a year + are just getting started. I’m grateful for the incredible
@SFDAOffice
+ the support from my family & friends who make it possible for me to serve this City. Thank you.
.
@SFPD
has presented my office with 610 drug-dealing cases, up from 412 over the period the year before. We have filed 545 cases, up 309 cases over a comparable period last year.
We have gone from a 75% filing rate to a 90% filing rate.
But as promised, here’s another case example of how Chesa Boudin holds those who are arrested with guns “accountable”. Milan Ward (case # 21000962) forcibly carjacked a female victim from her car with an accomplice while threatening to shoot her.
Accountability does not mean that we reject reform. We can have responsible reform and accountablity both at the same time. I vow to this city to balance both in pursuit of justice and safety for all.
I've also proposed funding to DA
@BrookeJenkinsSF
office to add prosecutors focused on drug dealers. While we add mental health beds and treatment for those suffering from addiction, we need to make sure when our officers make arrests for dealing, that there is accountability.
Chesa - do not use these children’s lives for your political narrative. Children are dying from gun violence in San Francisco and you have done nothing about it. Jace Young was 6 years old and still no justice. You give diversion and probation to those who are caught with guns.
19 victims. 18 children.
Children.
I will continue to do everything to stop the flow of guns into our communities.
These killings are not inevitable.
We have to stop acting as if they are.
I appreciate the hard work of
@sfpd
to catch Mrs. Ren’s attackers. It’s a sad situation across the board & we have to ensure there are appropriate consequences while doubling down on our work to stop violence.
"We cannot have our downtown be flooded with crime, that's where most of our engagement is where our conventions are, so we need to be making sure that we are making strategic decision to address certain bad pocket areas, very publicly."
@KPIXtv
We still have work to do to make people feel & be safe. But, I want people to know that we have law enforcement leaders in place that believe in accountability. We are no longer a city that allows repeat & violent offenders to be back out on the street.
I believe in accountability. The recent attacks that we have seen against elderly members of the Asian community are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in San Francisco.
We need to mobilize together to make sure we protect the most vulnerable in our communities.
I want to make clear: Holding offenders accountable does not preclude us from moving forward with vital and important reforms to our criminal justice system. As a Black and Latina woman, I know very well the inequities that exist in our criminal justice system.
“I am working every day to ensure that the situation changes. But I’m only one part of this system. I have had to be very vocal about the fact that there is another part of the system right now that is failing them.”

On June 7, voters sent a clear message that they wanted a change in approach & leadership at the District Attorney's Office. I have been working every day to help bring that change. San Francisco can have both public safety & critical reforms!
I am grateful to Governor
@GavinNewsom
for his leadership and commitment to providing new resources for us to address open-air drug dealing and improve public safety in our city.
I understand how a violent attack like this can shake a community & I am committed to ensuring that the defendant is held accountable, so that we send the strongest message that violence like this is unacceptable. I am sending strength to the victim as he continues his recovery.
1/ Today, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced multiple felony charges against Garrett Allen Doty for the brutal Marina District assault on former San Francisco Fire Commissioner on April 5, 2023.
I am running for District Attorney to restore experience, integrity, and accountability to the DA's Office while advancing public safety and reform. To help bring the change voters called for, I need your help to win my election in November!
Working to end open air drug markets that are wreaking havoc on our communities is a top priority for our City, residents, & businesses.
Below are some new stats from
@SFDAOffice
about our work to deliver on one of the public’s top priorities:
Small businesses are the backbone of SF & we have to get property crime under control to help them thrive.
We reorganized our office to give attorneys greater capacity to focus on property crime cases in ways they had not before.
"One veteran dealer laughed at the question and said the trafficking claims were just a defense strategy. Of the 25 dealers interviewed, most said they were not trafficked or were unaware of anyone being forced to sell drugs."
Thousands of miles from San Francisco, on the outskirts of a village in Honduras, a mural appears like a mirage: the Bay Bridge. More emblems of the city appear unexpectedly and often. New homes rise behind gates emblazoned with 49ers or Warriors logos.
This is the Siria Valley.
“San Francisco has to help itself to some degree..If you’re a Honduran drug distributor & you (know) you'll be out in one or two hours at the most, there's not a lot of consequence, right?”
This is why on day one, I changed course to help save lives.
As a mother & DA, everyone needs to be cautious given the lethality of fentanyl. I encourage everyone to stay vigilant & safe. My office will continue to hold those who sell fentanyl accountable.
If you are interested in knowing exactly why SFDA Chesa Boudin should be recalled on June 7th - please listen to my interview on the San Francisco Experience podcast.
Even while facing a recall, he is digging his heels into his own failed approach as crime rates rise and more lives continue to be lost due to his catch and release system. He is THE public defender, not a DA.
Tonight’s BOE recall election results were proof that San Franciscans are fed up with officials who are derelict in their duties. Next up - the DA recall. CB continues to refuse to do his job. He will answer to the voters on June 7th.
#RecallChesa
Misdemeanor trespass is the equivalent of walking onto someone’s lawn without permission. This is Chesa’s version of reform that is allowing criminals to terrorize our residents and businesses with no fear of any consequences.
This jury’s verdict holds Mr. Rosales-Silva accountable and ensures that he will face consequences for peddling death on our streets.
This verdict marks a turning point in the fight to retake our streets from drug dealers who have operated open-air drug markets with impunity.
1/ Today, San Francisco District Attorney
@BrookeJenkinsSF
announced the conviction of Eduardo Rosales-Silva after trial by jury for possession for sale of nearly 200 grams of fentanyl & 74 grams of methamphetamine, 25 grams of heroin & 12 grams of cocaine base.
The drug overdose crisis is at an all-time high & our criminal justice system requires change to tackle the problem head-on.
I promised San Francisco residents I would work from day one to end open air drug markets & restore public safety.
These changes will do just that.
One thing the recall effort has taught us is that this isn’t about party lines. He continues to rely on this elementary argument because he has nothing else. Chesa Boudin - the people have spoken. Wanting to be safe is universal!
Technology can play an important role in deterring crime & holding offenders accountable. In addition, the policy adds important increased transparency that can aid with investigations into alleged officer misconduct & in preventing law enforcement from pursuing the wrong person.
Newly appointed DA Brooke Jenkins backs push to expand live police surveillance, says the proposal will "send a message to those scheming to prey on our city that there will be consequences for their actions”
Chesa Boudin would have been an excellent choice for Public Defender, but he isn’t fit or qualified for the job of District Attorney. His poor decisions and judgment have real impacts on San Francisco. Thank you Shirin for speaking up! Vote yes on the recall!
Under the previous DA, Shirin prosecuted car break-ins, earning her the title "Queen of the Car Break-ins" by
@sfchronicle
.
When Chesa took office, he dissolved the unit & prevented her from collaborating with the police. Car break-ins are now on the rise.

"We're explaining that many of them have been arrested not once, not twice, even three times for deadly fentanyl in our cities and these judges are not taking it seriously. They are allowing the courthouses to be a revolving door," said SF District Attorney Brooke Jenkins.
Thank you Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association & BeChinatown for welcoming me last night, it was truly an honor. I’m committed to keeping the Chinese community safe & promise there will be consequences for those who commit hate crimes & violence against the AAPI community.
Hanako loved San Francisco. I hope Hanako’s death will not be wasted. I hope one day I can tell Hanako that San Francisco was reborn as a safe and beautiful city
Brazen organized retail theft has become far too commonplace in SF + is having a devastating impact on our retail community. Groups who come to SF to engage in this kind of behavior should know that they will be prosecuted vigorously + face consequences for these crimes.
1/ District Attorney
@BrookeJenkinsSF
announced today that San Francisco residents Shaka Jinks & Breanna Jones have been charged in connection to a commercial burglary on the 2000 block of Fillmore Street.
@SFPD
report recovering $7,290 in stolen merchandise.
We have public records to prove that possessors and users of firearms in SF are receiving dismissals and diversions without actually undergoing any meaningful rehabilitation. Carjackers, drug dealers, and felons with guns - with zero consequence.
