@brioninn @hankgreen I think many cultural advancements were made by teens and young adults, just messing around. those that lived, passed it on to their peers and kids. no doubt the whole time their parents were yelling at them to knock it off ...

@MadelineOnMars I think contrasting the medical emergency with the quiet heartlessness of this Seago is a good example of showing, not telling. NPR doesn't have to say his adherence to a principle is going to cost lives - the (reasonable) reader can see it for themselves. Much more effective.

Actually, we find pathways to develop vaccines outside/independent of big pharma, recently establishing proof-of-concept for this. Our @TexasChildrens vaccine center developed 2 Covid vaccine technologies reaching 100 million people + soon I hope new vaccines for hookworm, Chagas

@Mylovanov I think: Prigozhin was never intending to overthrow Putin; he's still loyal. he was trying to force Putin to support him over Shoigu, but failed, b/c his move embarrassed Putin. he loses his troops, keeps his money and gets to live in exile in Belarus.

@kongratieff @russiafiles it took several years for anti-war sentiment in the U.S. to spread during the Vietnam War, which only happened because many Americans confronted and changed their views about their country. Many didn't, and that strain lasted for awhile (maybe still lasts, in another form?)

@djrothkopf a peace process didn't take hold in Northern Ireland until the major warring factions lost the support of the local communities, an effort led by mothers on both sides. Hamas's incitement of Israel should mean it forfeits the right to represent Gaza. Gazans deserve better.

@SimonJohnBowden @noclador @shashj the Kherson offensive made this possible, by encouraging 🇷🇺 to divert forces from what they thought was a stable front to the South. Blocking bridges prevents 🇷🇺 from quickly moving forces back to the East or North if they wanted to. 🇺🇦 set up a fork, & 🇷🇺 had no good choice.

@mikaelclarke @anders_aslund I disagree: if the West directly intervenes militarily, they then make Putin's false justification, that the West is attacking Russia, become true. Sanctions are just part of the answer: military and civilian aid, and the success of Ukraine's army are the rest.
