1/ One of most important things I've learned: Severe personality problems find *camouflage.* No one thinks “I’m a sadist” or “I'm a malignant narcissist.” They find a belief system/social group that validates their most hateful, destructive impulses & construes them as virtues.

There is no such thing as a “therapist/coach.” A competent psychotherapist is not a coach and doesn’t act like one.

My two cents on how to find a great therapist/coach: 1. Find one that makes a huge difference in the first session. 2. Don't stop looking until you find one who does that.

2/ While on the topic, “therapist” is not a professional credential or title. Anyone can call themselves a “therapist”—it means nothing There are many different MH licenses (with very different levels of training). People with legit licenses are ethically required to DISCLOSE

1/ “Psychologist” is a protected title in U.S. Psychologists are doctors (PhD or PsyD), meet stringent requirements, and are licensed specifically as a “psychologist.” It’s illegal to misrepresent yourself as a psychologist. Can you imagine if any random person/company could

Dear AI companies, An AI chatbot must NEVER pretend it's not an AI chatbot. There is no level of creative or satirical freedom that should allow that. *By the way, not only should this be legally prohibited, but it should be a screening test for stricter regulatory scrutiny.

"Your feelings are in no way a reliable guide to what is or isn’t true in reality. They are not a reliable guide to what’s true about anyone else. Feeling strongly about something does not make it more true".

I’m not sure when people started using the word “valid” to describe feelings. It’s not clear what the phrase “Your feelings are valid” could even mean. Let’s bring a little clarity about what feelings are, and are not. ✅Your feeling are feelings. They’re not right or wrong,

This kind of referral request is a huge đŸš© 1. The patient’s treatment needs can’t be known in advance 2. The person posting the referral assumes no responsibility for the patient’s care But—they’re already trying to make clinical treatment decisions đŸš©đŸš©đŸš©đŸš©đŸš©đŸš©đŸš©

Absolutely this! This is what psychotherapy does (without labels) when working with a whole, complex human being. What bothers and worries me is that the labeling implies a separateness that is not real, as if the one thread matters more than the full tapestry.

It bothers me when people speak of trauma work, shadow work, family of origin work, parts work, etc like they’re separate things or special skills It’s psychotherapy. The issues people bring don’t come in separate packages. We must work with what arises & have the skill to do it

Research shows male domestic violence perpetrators fall into 3 personality groups 1ïžâƒŁpsychopathic 2ïžâƒŁborderline 3ïžâƒŁparanoid When therapy influencers use “narcissist” as synonym for perpetrator or abuser, they’re showing their lack of knowledge. It’s self-promotion, not information
