@moorehn I had a foster child many years ago who arrived with nothing. Didn't speak. I gave her a new princess party dress and tiara. She started nattering that evening. We are still in touch. She's forty years old and has sparkly nails. She's wear a tiara every day too if she could.

@JoBrowningWroe Yes. And the first time I used one was in Austria and I thought it was a mattress. Also square pillow. Nearly black coarse bread and butter with black cherry jam and a hot chocolate for breakfast. It was all lovely and foreign when I was ten in the early 60's.

@MichaelRosenYes My son has an older sister. She was born asleep. It was 1971 and no one took her picture. Her papa was killed three weeks later in a car crash. I am the only one who remembers her beautiful tranquil face and dear little finger nails. I told him about her. We know her name.

@sarahhollowell When I as 42 I had a heart attack, my son was 14. I had a triple bypass and we both got over the shock but it dawned on him very recently that he is now 42 and his daughter Ellie is 14. He doesn't feel very old at all and understands how desperate I was to survive.

Oh my dear lord, my heart.... Those four beautiful young men have been found dead in the car in Snowdonia. I'd hoped they were DofE doing their camping but apparently the car crashed and they're dead. I'm so sad. All the times my boys went off adventuring they come back.

@JaneyGodley I have had a horrible week struggling with being so isolated and alone, and really need to see my son. But he is a long way away, his wife is on the high risk list, and I wont see him again for a long time. I truly hate these people making a mockery of everything.

@BooksLimestone Sir Terry Prachett was sitting in Winchester High Street in late 1980's. Told him my son and I loved his books and were trying to get them into the school library. He went into WH Smith and bought some of his own books, signed them and gave them to me to get the school started.

@sarahhollowell Mine is all grown up but as a small person made every day a joy. He was great company. He only ate sausages with potatoes every day for 6 months at 3 y o. Jam sandwich the rest of the time. Then it stopped as quick as it started. Weird.

@AngelaHaggerty I went for a p/t job at WH Smith at 16 yo and was asked why I wanted to work there. I am autistic. I said I didn't want to, but my Dad said it would be good for me. I got the job and stayed a Saturday girl for 3 years in the book dept. I was very good at my job. Surprisingly.

Explanation took 50 miles and he was riveted. So, reading my Son's University thesis was useful after all, and not just to check his grammar!

@RetroCrone Yes. I aspired to live your life for ages and when I did it was just the peace I'd wanted. Then Covid and I had to live isolated and retired so challenges I'd not forseen. Now three dogs and lots of books read. On to gardening next.

@juliebdunne @cox_tom I live on the outskirts of a village and have a Barn Owl that lands on the roof, skitters about a bit waking the dogs and giving them a nervous breakdown, and then it just takes off and glides on enormous wings down the slope of the garden to an oak tree 100yds away. Beautiful.

@matthaig1 This past year of being forcefully "opted out" of life has been great for me. Pottering about, shopping once a week, avoiding everyone has not been a hardship. I miss my son having not seen him for ages, but if he were in Canada it would be the same. That is what I tell myself!

@crockpics I met them at beauty salon. She was having a manicure and he opened the carton of milk for my coffee as my nails were wet. Of course I recognised him but it was all a bit unlikely so wasn't overawed. My boyfriend came in to get me and he was speechless.
