Garbage alert: this “big authorship data” analysis stumbles on what we already know about gender bias in academia, then stupidly advises that the key to women’s success is to avoid female mentors and instead align with privileged males. Who reviewed this?

Replace an aromatic carbon with nitrogen, leave the rest of the skeleton the same. A huge first step towards the problem I started my lab to tackle, thanks to @tyler_j_pearson , @ryoma_ous , @DriscollJuliaL , @balu_dherange , and Dong-Il.

Thalidomide is a molecular glue degrader that acts via cereblon binding. ⁦ @drcmwoo ⁩ and collaborator ⁦ @MattRPratt ⁩ discovered that cereblon mediates degradation of endogenous protein cyclic imides, a form of protein damage. Art imitates life!

Prof. Huisgen's foundational 1950's work set the stage for the most important reaction in chemical biology, a development he could not have foreseen in the moment. As well, we don't know today what the impact of our work will ultimately be. Support curiosity-driven basic science.

We are sad to hear that Rolf Huisgen, best known for research on 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions, has passed away. Sharpless included and extended this work in his Click Chemistry. #chemheroes Huisgen's #Classicsinchem : Click Chemistry:

Powerful story by @Shenvi_Lab on his experience as nearly solo caregiver to 4 young children during his partner’s residency while running his lab as young prof, testimony to the challenges faced by working parents and importance of mental health.

We lost a lion of organic synthesis. I took first semester organic chem from Dave in Fall 1985 when I was a bio major premed. Thanks to his amazing teaching, I fell in love with the subject and switched my major to chem. He forever altered the course of my life. Thank you Dave!!

The tolerance of that pathway for nonnative acyl groups got me thinking about whether metabolism could allow delivery of chemical handles to cell surface sialic acids for covalent labeling with imaging probes. But what type of chemistry would allow this in living systems? 6/n

This form of "copper-free click chemistry" had all the right stuff for in vivo imaging. Scott Laughlin @stonybrooku and @basktasktic performed an elegant study of dynamic changes in cell-surface glycans during zebrafish development @ScienceMagazine : 25/n

There is 6th factor they do not mention that might contribute to the disparity: many covid papers were obviously rushed and are of low quality. Perhaps women researchers are less willing to submit low quality papers.
