@steamyporkbuns Paycheck to paycheck (after I spend my money on all my expenses, my 401k, my emergency fund savings, and several thousand dollars of luxuries per month).

@wanyeburkett I think that if you’re living one of the richest lives ever lived (almost every American is in the global 1%) and you’re still miserable the total upheaval of our social system probably isn’t going to be the key to finding meaning either.

@JoshuaW03319152 @hecubian_devil There is an undersupply of housing in the places that people actually want to live in.

@maxdubler Why does that one column say 5% vacancy? I thought literally any vacancy whatsoever was an unacceptable waste of housing?.

@hecubian_devil That person’s entire political identity is defined in opposition to yuppies she hates because they broke the social convention that you’re not supposed to call first wave gentrifiers what they are. Many such cases!.

@NielsHoven We should probably break the AMA and let medicare fund more residencies so that if we /do/ implement a single payer system, we don't have to deal with the wait time tradeoff other countries have to deal with.

@questionableway (bravely) I think a place can be called wealthy if its median household income is double the national median.

@escargotpro_ In SF, sometimes, if they're polite, a driver will wait for you while you traverse a crosswalk. More and more often, the driver behind them will swing around them and try to make the turn they're waiting on, as if they're stopped for no reason.

@BThebird @pschofie79 You act like people just thought he looked off instead of him lunging at other passengers, including a woman and child cowering behind a stroller, snarling I WILL KILL. You should take threats seriously, people occasionally mean them.

@OrangeSlices__ @AdamRackis fuck this double standard! Trump has never respected anyone on the national stage. He denigrates his enemies and blurs the line between his and America’s. It’s not our fault you can’t take advantage of a good economy by leaving your job to find a better one when wages are rising.

@SilverbackSense @sam_d_1995 @Boxing_Pandas Yeah. They should either raise the toll until there are no traffic jams or fix sleds to the front of emergency vehicles so they can plow through your ass that should’ve taken the subway.

@BThebird @pschofie79 When they reasonably believe death or harm to themselves or others is imminent. And lunging at someone saying “I will kill” is that. Ignoring something like that and living is evidence that you are /lucky/, not that you have some finely tuned Real Danger Radar.

@LittleMammith The way people are throwing around Missouri ballot prop results and concluding "a leftist would have won" is extremely disingenuous. That people like populist econ, supporting workers, and abortion is not news.

@DonEMooreJr @wanyeburkett A world where another country becomes powerful enough to set the terms by which America engages with the world is a non starter. Isolationists are like fish in water. They don’t see the effects of global American power because it’s all they’ve ever known.

@alexnpress @LeftwardBound I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people to be nervous when someone gets on and mutters “I’m gonna kill everyone on this bus I don’t give a fuck” to themselves.

@BThebird @pschofie79 Wearing a shirt doesn’t meet any assault statute I’m aware of, so no. But if you paired it with an action, say wearing a shirt that says “I’ll kill everyone with red hair I see” and you lunged at some redhead and they dropped you for it it would be hard to convict them.

@JimsonHogarth @steamyporkbuns I'm not making fun of people working paycheck to paycheck (aggressively penny pinching to make sure their bills are paid). I'm making fun of people working "paycheck to paycheck" (allocating 100% of their discretionary income and then acting shocked when it's allocated).

@tracewoodgrains I have a status quo bias, but it seems unimportant either way. I didn’t take calculus until college and I made out totally fine? It feels to me like the complete degradation of verbal ability among the young is a much bigger issue this is distracting us all from.

@JoshuaW03319152 @hecubian_devil To zero in on SF: we have 1/2 the pop of Manhattan, 2x the space, and our rents are about half theirs. Whatever the equilibrium pop of this place is, price signals don’t indicate it’s substantially higher. We don’t have that much to build, but we have more than zero to build.

@TheMoriartyShow @_giacomo_volpe_ @newjerseyleft Do you think that line is crossed when someone lunges at a mother and child snarling “I will kill” or does a person have to wait until their orbital bone is already broken to act.

(This user lives in Ohio and would benefit from the government forcing jobs there).
People don’t want to live in rural areas because there are no jobs because we have made decisions to locate them in certain places. Cities have become places “people want to live” because of those choices. Read up on the urban crisis if you think SF AND NYC are inherently popular.

@hecubian_devil “The market won’t solve homelessness” ok will it solve the fact that SF is so supply constrained that it currently subsidizes households making up to ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY THOUSAND FUCKING DOLLARS.

@maxdubler I'm trying to imagine the community meeting for a program that makes it so every vacancy or home sale triggers mandatory activation as a homeless shelter for 1 month. Maybe it should be proposed for kicks so we can watch them duke it out.

@maxdubler Since no one who wants an elite job is going to voluntarily stay in the Midwest, it's really a matter of making it easy for them or hard on incumbents. There's not a secret third thing. Rich people don't invest in the interior.

@escargotpro_ On my commute home a few months ago, I saw someone stuck behind a left turner on a four-lane intersection pull into oncoming traffic and speed past the turner when their light turned green. They barely beat oncoming traffic.

@RichardHanania I’ll never understand people that choose to live in New York but hate cities. There’s a wide country out there and 99.99999999% of it is built to your exact preferences. Move to Wyoming idiot!.

@simpleplan90s @IDoTheThinking Equating the very idea of deregulation in the public mind with his voodoo economic ideology is one of the bigger stains he left on our politics. We have some poorly thought out laws that we should be able to change instead of layering fixes on and throwing even more money at them.

It’s nice that the left occasionally clears its throat and says openly that illiberalism, not antifascism, is its guiding principle. They’re going to turn on you first like they did in 1933 you fucking idiot.
Everyone is looking for my so-called pivot. It's not in the policy. It's not in the labels. It's not in the strategy. But I found it. There is something different. I don't hate the other side anymore. And that might be the biggest difference of all. And the biggest sin for some.

@jxsonli @whstancil One of the many reasons healthcare is expensive is a self-imposed doctor shortage. In the 1990s the AMA lobbied for a cap on the number of residencies the government would fund and we're feeling the pain about 30 years later, about the time it takes to birth and train specialists.

@AnneNotation @AK_Organizer I'm definitely guilty of that mindset. I've seen how some New Yorkers that stay in the same place for a long time remodel it themselves, but I'm not about to do that to a 1 bedroom apartment just to move out and have to undo it + pay repair costs when I start a family.

@nobodyknows2322 Many people are saying. Progs throw around support for populist econ and abortion rights like that indicates support for the rest of the batshit policies they support. Ask the public if they want to subjugate American interests to an international party or see China as hegemon.
