You do not need to be in the tank for Zohran Mamdani to find this post shocking and overly personal. I get that Trumpism turned our politics into a sewer, but there must be some standard. A few years ago this kind of post would've merited an apology.

Clearly Newsom's strategy is persuading his fellow Democratic governors, and they are generally a pretty risk-averse bunch. The problem is that Democratic voters keep telling the party they are done with that kind of Obama-era, NYT op-ed intellectualism.

Got a few emails from Democrats who felt my column in @thehill this week was too tough on @GavinNewsom. Ehhh. I credited Newsom for building a successful elite media campaign around Texas. I just argue it's the *wrong* strategy when voters want a brawl.

I would call all of this very mild criticism, and the only reason it's so controversial is that New York City is experiencing one of the most openly anti-social political campaigns in its history.

You don't attack someone's wife! . You don't.attack.someone's .wife!. If someone is telling you to attack someone's wife, fire that person!.

I critiqued Mamdani, Cuomo and others' primary strategies a lot. My main Cuomo critique was the overbearing arrogance. That's doubly worse now that Cuomo's ego is wounded. I can't for the life of me see who he's winning over with these deeply personal attacks.

I am genuinely aghast as a Democratic political strategist and a person that the Cuomo campaign has decided doubling down on toxicity and tough guy nastiness is their path forward. It is *shocking* to me how scorched-earth cruel Cuomo and his top voices have become.

I can't imagine ever being in the headspace where I'd want to read a politician's campaign-season memoir.
