1.1 million layoffs in Trump's first year, the highest since the pandemic -- the last time Trump was president. Consumer confidence at its lowest rate since April and still falling. 120,000 small business layoffs in November. This is Trump's "Golden Age"
JOHNSON just now to us in the capitol: “steady at the wheel, everybody. it's going to be fine. Our best days are ahead of us. Americans are going to be feeling a lot better in the early part of next year.”

People said I was silly to study semiotics in grad school. "It has no practical applications!" they said. I present to you the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace, a wonderland of signifiers signifying their own opposites:
This morning, the State Department renamed the former Institute of Peace to reflect the greatest dealmaker in our nation's history. Welcome to the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace. The best is yet to come.

President Trump’s Cabinet meetings are a masterclass in postmodernism, a forum in which nothing is said yet everything is revealed. Yesterday's gathering showed a White House running on full autopilot. My latest for @TheHill:

Republican insiders are worried Trump is so “bubble-wrapped” by yes-men that he’s completely lost touch with reality.

The Cabinet room now has the same delusional vibe as “Cabaret’s” Kit Kat Club on the eve of Berlin’s collapse into darkness. Out there, life is disappointing. Forget it, we have no troubles here. Here, life is beautiful. Eventually the music will stop. https://t.co/liaYkncOCS

WHITE HOUSE: Hegseth didn't order the second strike ALSO WHITE HOUSE: Hegseth actually did order the second strike TRUMP: Hegseth ordered the strike, I wouldn't have done it. HEGSETH: I didn't order the second strike PENTAGON: No one knows who ordered the second strike
Hegseth says he did watch the 9/2 boat strike but says he didn’t stay around for the entirety and says it was Adm. Bradley who made call to “sink the boat and eliminate the threat.” “I did not personally see survivors. The thing was on fire…This is called the fog of war.”

This Cabinet meeting is an indication of just how far the MAGA elite have drifted not just from the political mainstream, but from any grip on the lived reality of the voters who elected them. It's the Kit Kat Club before the lights went out in Berlin. Everything is beautiful.

Because the White House said Hegseth signed off on it. Keep up. https://t.co/43lqPRapcF

White House confirms and defends second strike against alleged drug smugglers in Caribbean waters, amid Trump administration's anti-drug crusade.
@themaxburns Why is it so hard to believe that a capable and respected SOCOM admiral made a determination that a second strike was lethal and appropriate on his own?

The White House claims the second kill order was legal -- while running as fast as they can to distance Hegseth from making the order.
JUST IN: Adm. Bradley gave the order for the 2nd strike on Venezuela boat, WH Press Sec. Karoline Leavitt says during briefing. Says Bradley was within legal right to order the second strike. So: WH not disputing the second strike, but is disputing Hegseth gave "kill" order.

Hegseth made murderers out of honorable soldiers, likely with the tacit understanding that Trump would pardon anyone brought up on criminal charges. This is a disgraceful time for our armed services.
A Secretary of Defense told operators to “kill everybody” even after the first missile strike, even after survivors were clinging to wreckage in the water. I’ve commanded missions where every order carried life-and-death consequences. I know what lawful command looks like, and

I just can't see what good faith reason there is in pretending Hudson didn't aggressively campaign to add Paladino to her endorsement sheet. You can't have it both ways when Hudson led an even more aggressive push to flip Paladino onto her team.

What's served by pretending this is some Julie Menin scheme? Crystal Hudson worked just as energetically to win Paladino's support -- including having Lincoln Restler try and swing Paladino over to Hudson. So Paladino's support would've been solid for Hudson, but no one else?
Personally I think it’s bad that @JulieMenin and the “Democrats” backing her for speaker are proudly touting support and forming a coalition with Nazis like Vickie Paladino, who’s currently retweeting racist drivel like this:

This would be probably the most effective use of the Council's subpoena power, which @JulieMenin also wants to bring back. Haul in bad actors and make them account for their actions in a public forum, with actual penalties for refusing.
