We aren’t living in a culture of literacy anymore, we’re back in oral culture. From that lens, everything makes sense: short attention spans, virality, popularity, who makes money, even populist politics all follow orality Lets study the oral rules https://t.co/cGHyz5U7Ka

It's not normal to have parallel housing economies in the same city because the government refuses to enforce the law. A citizen has the right to live within the entire city in safety https://t.co/mbVeTaUH53

What's nice about train stations is the flexibility. Some of it can built outside, some of it inside. Different design details can be used. It's usually in the center of the city. With Airports, the obsession with security forces it to just look like a high security prison with

Another vignette from the post-literate society. Reading books used to be something a lot people did for fun - now it is a specialist skill that has to be taught by universities

I didn't know what to make of this kind of WH communication. Dismissed it as unserious, undegnified, until I read @PaulSkallas about the return of oral tradition. Makes sense.

ICE is in Chicago now and they are arresting illegal immigrants. Not in their home. they find them walking around the street. How do they find them? They purchase bulk cell-phone location data from private brokers to track people’s movements, which sidesteps the normal warrant

The very earliest measuring rulers from ancient Egypt are similar to the inch–foot system used in America today. Body based. Tip of finger is an inch. A foot is about the size of a grown man's foot. These are things your body carries around, so the system is easy to reconstruct

Gambling is very transactional. Your team is whoever you bet on for the day. European sports culture has an aspect that is very loyal to the city team. the owners respect it too. There are hooligans, fights, and it is very young male based. It's the opposite of transactional.

Too late. Sports and gambling are now integrated as one thing. You can't roll back to 2015 anymore. The 100 year year American experiment in banning sports gambling has ended, Sports and gambling have always been together.

I remain surprised that no enterprising national pol has made “prohibit sports betting again” a signature issue. It’s right there for the taking, it’s great take fodder, and it works for a Republican or a Democrat.
