For all those wondering, this is because Canada allows fixed payment variable rate mortgages.
When interest rates go up, instead of the payment increasing, less of the payment goes toward the principal, thereby extending the duration of the mortgage.

If there was zero inflation, the economy would still function perfectly fine. The idea of “needing” 2% inflation is a myth created by economists with no basis in data. There have been multiple periods of human history where deflation and economic prosperity and growth coexisted.

Technological advancement is inherently deflationary… but the central bank will always absorb that deflation via money printing, leaving us with inflation AKA debasement.
The solution = make Bitcoin the unit of account for your savings, not dollars
