@levelsio There is a very interesting study from Taiwan on this topic. After introducing more outdoor teaching for students, the trend toward more and more glasses has reversed. Muscles need exercise to become/stay strong. Too much time in small rooms weakens the eye muscles.

What's interesting is both my parents have glasses while I don't need them

I call this the "Hacker News theory of glasses" You train your eyes and brain to correct what you see without ever getting glasses or lenses or Lasik etc. It works for me, I can see fine Obviously not for everyone

I'd go further and say actually regular glasses too I never got glasses or lenses or Lasik and eye doctor says my eyes are fine Even though if I do wear some friend's glasses everything is crispy 4K But wearing those would make my eyes lazy and actually make my vision worse
It is true of the human body that what you don’t use, you lose. This goes for resilience too! - Always use sunglasses and your eyes become sensitive to light - Always wear jackets and coats, and your body becomes overly sensitive to cold Must intentionally harden yourself

It just came out the 🇪🇺 European Commission was actively buying advertisement to promote its own ChatControl bill, targeting specific political demographics Which is something that's illegal by the way
Freedom won today! 🚫 No ChatControl in EU Now keep this snooping on people's private messages off the 🇪🇺 EU's agenda forever please

@levelsio The key is communicating this idea broadly. Not everyone realizes how manufactured the problem is. You can still find many arguing (some even genuinely) that it's about ability to build lots of housing, not merely a choice.

@levelsio This. My grampa built a house with a garage and attic on a farmland he owned next to a forest hill. Not rocket science - pour concrete, lay bricks perfectly vertically and in right angles, put wooden beams and roof tiles, done. A tiny bit more complex than that but that is

Yep anti children, anti human, long term they want to make humanity extinct Must be some biological reason for those types of people existing Like some nature force in a species?
@levelsio To understand the eco movement you need to realise a good chunk of them are just anti-human

I love trees too But first get people housed and fed Then grow trees

Why do you care more about trees than people having a roof over their head? This is the absurdity of eco politics now Prioritizing trees over humans
@levelsio Dude, what's wrong with you :D Do not touch our trees. Do not touch our green prairies

A lot of homeowners will do anything to keep their investments going up Even though most people now can't afford to buy a house They don't care
@levelsio I can't believe you're getting pushback. Imagine pushback for any other item that has gone down orders of magnitude in price? Radios, TVs, phones...

This is a misnomer Only 1% of land is used for homes etc 50% habitable land is used for farming If anything you should make farms go vertical a bit and use 2% of agricultural land to build homes on near cities Then you double the housing supply instantly
@levelsio Yeah, because the tiny bit of nature we've got left, we have to fill up with fugging ugly houses and buildings.

Ironically the "socialism" here is the regulation stopping the market from responding properly to more demand for housing In a market not distorted by building regulations, there'd be houses being built as fast as possible to respond to increased demand But zoning, NIMBYism,
@levelsio Hate to break it to you but not everyone deserves such a place. This isn't socialism, we can't give people houses hand over fist and expect nothing in return.

My point is to deregulate building agressively so that it becomes easy to just buy land, start building without getting stuck years in zoning and approval bureaucracy That speeds up building See Austin

It's like water You don't think about opening the tap when you wash your hands or shower It's sufficiently affordable that you don't care We should do the same for housing, too many houses, so many houses, oversupply, crash the market A house or two for everyone!
We should build so many new houses everywhere that there's a massive oversupply and the price goes to zero Make it a worthless asset so that everyone can have a place to live
