Peter used to think in terms of "worst case scenario". Now he's upset others are also thinking in those terms.
This has gotten so out of hand that the Knots crowd are becoming a serious risk to Bitcoin. We can't stop people from putting illicit data in the Bitcoin chain. We just can't. By LOUDLY calling attention to it we greatly increase the chances that some prosecutor notices this.

Because filtering isn't censorship.
Please explain like I am 5 how filtering out all JPEGs will be possible, but that will not be a vector for state-based attacks to then filter out anything they believe is 'illicit'?.

It bears repeating that running Knots is the best thing to do right now. No one thinks it's a permenant solution.
Don't let the bad actors trick you into thinking Bitcoin Core 30 allows you to re-enable the datacarrier limit:. 1) Along with unlimiting the default, they also broke it further. datacarriersize=83 now (as of Core 30) allows for 83 outputs totalling 830 bytes of spam, instead of.

Look, no one wants garbage on the timechain, but people are gonna litter. So, we can either make garbage cans for garbage (i.e. op_return) and people can put their garbage there, or people will put their garbage on the streets (UTXOs) b/c there are no garbage cans.
