If you buy a condo, no one thinks once you pay off your mortgage you can stop paying HOA fees for joint maintenance, security, common grounds/amenities, trash collection. And yet, if you own a house, once paid for, you think you don't need to pay any fees to your city anymore?

I don’t know who needs to hear this but even if you’ve paid off your home, you will pay monthly property taxes the rest of your life. I’m in Texas and I am looking at ~$500/month forever. Refuse to pay? Lose your home. You never truly own your home in America.
