@ValerioCapraro This honestly reads more as someone who speaks English as a second language.

@LeoMars75 The number of Brits in the comments thinking that this means 100k over 3 years - I'm starting to think UK wages are just a fair reflection of skill level.

@PlazmaBolt @human_man88 @besttrousers @jzux @itsXtophe It's unintuitive, but you don't need to increase the size of the sample for larger populations for it to remain representative - imagine you're making soup and tasting it for seasoning, if you double the size of the pot, do you need to double the size of the spoon?.

@JosephPolitano The UK and the US just have different political landscapes and it's fruitless trying to speculate about which country's candidates would do well in the other's country - realistically they'd all do terribly.

@ArtButSports @nyknicks The fact that he let's everyone know he's cooking AND makes sure the photographer gets credit with a single sentence.

@whstancil The Bell Curve was written in the English language, and yet you still speak it? For shame!.

@hkatewilliams The rate of housebuilding in London is low compared to elsewhere in the country.
However, it differs a little from the US: this effect is only visible in London. Here is the same graph, with the London boroughs in red:

@davidbyers26 "But don't despair - some areas could see house prices rise 20%". Whoever wrote this, I want a new development directly on top of their house.

@Aella_Girl @sp6runderrated She's not actually reading it, it's just performative rebellious behaviour, the kind of thing teenagers do. She's also known for berating her staffers to the point of tears, and scalding her ex-husband by pouring hot food on his head - a thoroughly unpleasant person.

@SwannMarcus89 I get the feeling that the 19 year old who tldr'd a single sentence might not be the deepest thinker.

@realNateRybner @MrZEEsterious1 @micah_erfan "Most Americans agree with these things" to "these seem like things a majority of Texans support" is a hell of a goalpost shift.

@nolightupstairs Totally absurd.
When I was told about this I lay on the floor and cried, it’s so violating, it made me want to quit writing forever. The reason I got back up was because I know my audience come to my show for real connection and ideas, not cheapfake AI garbage, and I know they’ll stay with me.

@M_C_Klein @jdub3o @whstancil @NateSilver538 You'd think that "smart enough to know that incomes should be adjusted for changes in the price level, but not smart enough to know what 'real' or 'inflation-adjusted' means" would be a a pretty small Venn diagram, and yet there's seemingly an infinite supply.

@moorehn Inflation categorically has come down - *prices* have not come down, and you shouldn't expect them to.

@CharlieBaranski Your source includes over 20 variants of English, including "Irish English" and "Jewish English" - you'd need to do a lot more work to standardise the methodology to be able to properly make the comparison.

@morthobbs @Very__Regular The channel still exists btw, they just replaced the people who left and viewership decreased - but also, Sohla was not getting paid a single dollar - she was supposed to keep working for free so that Bon Appetit could continue paying other people? What are you talking about?.

@xriskology It's not reasonable to publicly accuse people of causing harm, and then expect them to buy and read an entire book just to understand that you didn't mean precisely what you said.

@ChadNotChud Individual who's incredibly accomplished in the natural sciences doesn't understand that social sciences don't work the same way? Many such cases.

@bidetuser @best_shittalker Congratulations! You're in at least the top 0.1% of earners in the country, its no wonder you know nothing about the housing market as you probably don't have to think about money at all.

@bidetuser @best_shittalker The answer is no, they can't, because your landlord is also constrained by your ability and willingness to pay.

@jayphoward @LoriGottlieb1 @HistoryBoomer By limiting expectations ("you're definitely going to get in!") and preventing being pressured ("are you sure you don't want to go somewhere closer to home?"), are two things that spring to mind.

@ChadNotChud 1. He does have an ego, and he gets off on being called names. 2. He enjoys being ratioed (more attention). 3. You can't get people to unfollow him, because people who hate him will follow him anyway. It's literally the Noah Smith/MattY playbook!.

@nicoleprinty @BookBrunch @simonschusterUK @anne_irfan given that your own page only references Palestine, it's safe to say that you aren't qualified to appraise anyone else's ability to write on the matter then.

@mattyglesias @krishnanrohit @RuxandraTeslo "One of these groups is constantly saying unpleasant things about me, so I'll vote for the other" seems like the obvious motivation, even if irrational at a policy level.

@bidetuser @best_shittalker So if landlords were not constrained by the law, they would raise prices to $100k per month? $1 million?.

@capitalismandf1 This chart isn’t showing you a real decline. What happened is that 2020 millions and millions of people lost their jobs, overwhelmingly at the very bottom of the income spectrum. As a result, average wages leapt up even though people didn’t actually receive higher wages.

@bidetuser @best_shittalker Can your landlord always increase your rent? If so, why don't they just triple it? If not, what difference in conditions allow them/prevent them from doing so?.

@ArmandDoma End the US occupation of Australia NOW 😤.
@Embowaf @ArmandDoma I'd prefer you to withdraw your troops and stop "briefing" our legislators actually but that seems about equally unlikely in my lifetime.

@arnoblalam @ArmandDoma right, because a sentence that begins with "eat shit you fucking pig" is likely to end with a peaceful plea for democratic engagement.
