The game will always go on without you.

It’s 2004, I’m playing in the NY Penn league and it’s my first year in pro ball. We were playing the Staten Island Yankees. Clean, nice, newer stadium at the time, and you could

• 6x ASG, 2x ERA leader, 1997 WS Champ
• 72 CG, 17 SHO in 476 games started
• Pitched at least 230 innings 7 times
• First $100M contract in MLB history

🗣️💯 This is something I was taught in pro ball. Wish I was conscious of this in HS & into college. Best advice I could give any infielder is to practice fielding the ball with 1 hand, trust/control your glove, improve your mobility & adjustability when u end up getting a bad hop
“In only 25% of those quadrants are you fielding with two hands…the one hand was more valuable and the growth I saw in players as a result was ridiculous”

High finish results in tilt and the bat in & out of zone. Top spin, inconsistent contact, & inability to adjust to off speed.
Low finish results “flatter” path in the zone longer. Back spin, more consistent contact, & ability to adjust to off speed.

Agreed, and it is what is being taught. The game at the MLB level happens VERY FAST, so there are outliers when 2B/SS gets a late break and has to straddle or just be athletic to make the play.

On a steal I WANT the SS/2B to get in front of the bag and not straddle. Nearly all teaching at MLB level is to get to front of bag. They were also teaching C to throw to 1B side of bag (3-5 ft) from what I heard from one player. Think that is still being coached.
