She was a pioneering scientist on elucidating the role of estrogen & progesterone receptors in the developing mammary gland & in #BreastCancer. In the 1960s, she (along with Jack Gorski) identified that estrogen hormone bound to a receptor (!), a finding that has led to many Rxs.

I am reading about an impending EO putting restrictions on J-1 & H-1B visas (as well as post-F1 OPT). Most academic labs in the US are like mine, and as I have said before, diversity is our strongest weapon against cancer, #COVID19, you name it. We should not go down this path!.

@TheBcellArtist So many of the responses are about salaries - which is 💯 correct. But my trainees who have, or are going to industry/biotech, are also getting to pursue some pretty cool science as well. Let’s be honest - there is great science happening outside academia and the pay is better.

The preclinical-clinical chasm for TIGIT is only matched by CD47 I think. Yesterday, Ira Mellman (ex-Genentech) had a very nice @NatureCancer paper, just months after Roche had another TIGIT phase 3 failure, and the same day Merck threw in the towel on their TIGIT asset.
