Hey 🇨🇦 grocers: How about you start each day with two hours of masked shopping to give the increasing number of vulnerable individuals a chance to buy food without becoming even more disabled?

#LongCovid
has cost me everything — my health, my home, my career, proximity to everyone I know and my ability to rebuild what was destroyed. I’ve been without income for over a year. This virus has taken my life — without actually killing me.
So many people think a complete recovery from a
#Covid
infection is common. They don’t know that many who completely recover sustain brain damage that researchers seem to think could be degenerative. Is no one other than
#LongCovid
patients keeping up with medical research?
At 46 months of
#LongCovid
, with no improvement, I finally closed my LinkedIn profile today. My current position as “MIA since April 2020 due to LC” wasn’t doing me any favours. I lost my home, my family and friends to LC back in 2021, but my career was the biggest loss of all.
I wish I had the superpower to make people feel the
#LongCovid
pain I feel 24/7/365 just by touching their arm for a few seconds. I’d love to see the look on their face when they suddenly grasp the real risk of not masking.
I ALWAYS wear a N95 when I go to indoor public spaces — whether they are crowded or not. I do it to protect myself, but it also protects others. If that insults anyone, it’s just an added bonus!
3) I say ‘wrongfully’ denied because I’m genuinely sick — I’m not faking it, lying about it or making it up. I’m not lazy, unwilling to work, hoping to retire early or attempting to commit insurance fraud. I am completely debilitated by
#LongCovid
and incapable of working.
My parents, who saw me lose EVERYTHING to
#LongCovid
, stopped masking awhile ago. Despite all the education I tried to do, they spit out shit like « we’re vaccinated and can’t get infected anymore ». For the record, I won’t be attending either of their funerals.
7) Because politicians continue to wilfully ignore
#LongCovid
and the crisis of unimaginable proportions it is quickly becoming, you are purposely being kept in the dark, while everything you have ever built in your life is at risk.
2) Because SunLife wrongfully denied my long-term disability claim, I had to sell my new dream home to survive. My
#LongCovid
symptoms started only six months after moving in.
@curiousdatacat
A friend with memory loss after 2 infections told me she felt herself aging and was going to visit family in Europe for the last time. I asked her to mask on the plane because each infection ages the brain by 10 years. She asked for the research. I hope it helps her understand.
6) This is what’s really at stake for every Canadian who contracts the virus.
#LongCovid
is like Russian roulette, but research now shows that up to half of the chambers are loaded.
In 2023,
@CochraneCanada
received funding from the Public Health Agency of Canada to create
#LongCovid
guidelines. Today, they announced the release of 11 Good Practice Statements (GPS) about Long Covid. Here they are:
I’ve had
#LongCovid
for 28+ months. I’m unable to work due to severe physical and cognitive post-exertional malaise, which leaves me suffocating for days, weeks or even months. I’ve had zero income for almost two years and had to sell my home to survive.
#NotRecovered
In the spirit of Charlie's request, pls retweet this and share something about your
#LongCovid
life. People need to know. We are here. We need research. We need answers. We need to heal.
8) Much love and a Merry Christmas to the amazing folks at
@LongCovidCanada
for their tireless
#LongCovid
advocacy efforts, in a
@JustinTrudeau
country where votes matter more than lives.
4) After six months of living in my parents’ 300 sf studio with my husband and my cat, I had to buy a house without a mortgage. This forced me to move 350 km away from everyone I know — in the middle of nowhere, QC.
5) Consequently, I had to abandon my employment — in Ottawa’s hospital sector. Remaining employed there meant I had to keep paying SunLife’s disability premiums, despite having no income whatsoever.
I’ve always been very close to my family. They keep asking me when I will come visit. I keep finding excuses, but the truth is, I never want to visit with my family again. They aren’t
#Covid
-cautious and I have
#LongCovid
. And just like that… we’re done.
#MaskUp
More of my friends admitting they suffer from cognitive issues. They blame it on everything, except
#Covid
. I was completely disabled by
#LongCovid
in 04/2020. I never recovered. And yet, pretty soon—because I mask—I’ll be the healthiest person in my entire entourage. 🤦♀️
A school teacher friend admitted to having developed concerning memory problems over the last 3 years. After I explained that Covid causes that, she said she thinks it’s linked to pre-menopause. Alrighty then. 🤷♀️
@WUTangKids
@theliamnissan
That will only create a false sense of security, because it doesn’t even come close to addressing the real problem. The only thing it does is punish responsible registered handgun owners.
1/3) I have now been without any income ($0.00 per month) for 17+ months as a result of SunLife denying my
#LongCovid
LTD claim — for a proven illness that continues to kill and disable millions around the world. And as if that wasn’t enough…
@SillyPutty78
I’m so sorry to hear that. And more of them may even suffer the same fate because they went to his funeral unmasked. There’s no word to describe how utterly devastating this is.
Because
#LongCovid
can happen to anyone who gets a
#Covid
infection, answer me this — where would you find yourself right now had you received zero income ($0.00) over the last year? I’m asking because that’s what contracting Covid has been like for me.

- Public health officials and health care professionals should educate the public and patients on current ways to prevent infection or re-infection with
#COVID
-19.
These so-called ‘experts’ and health officials are NOT READING ANY of the
#Covid
research — AT ALL — NONE of it. It’s so obvious by their flagrant ignorance. 🤦♀️
"The new reality — with most people having developed a level of immunity to the virus because of prior infection or vaccination — warrants a shift to a more practical approach, experts and health officials say."
The 'new reality' is 100% delusion. 🤡
In 2022, over the course of several months, I painted my bedroom—black. I just LOVE how cozy it feels, especially at night. I spend so much time in bed that I wanted a space that brought me peace. Black paint isn’t for everyone, but I have absolutely no regrets.
#LongCovidOasis
Just video chatted with a
#Covid
friend. Tested + yesterday (2nd infection). Daughter now has asthma from Covid. I tried to explain the risks, but despite my best efforts, she’s going back to work tomorrow—in a complex continuing care hospital. 🤦♀️

@StashColTV
The term « brain fog » should never have been coined. It’s « brain damage » regardless of how minimal symptoms are and it’s been minimized from day one because people like to say « fog ». 🤦♀️
@paimadhu
You forgot « The pandemic is not over until

patients receive effective treatments that help them recover. » Never, ever speak of the pandemic without mentioning

I lost everything to
#LongCovid
— my health, my career, my home and proximity to everyone I know. Last night, I offered to buy my sister an air purifier. She lives in an 890 sf bungalow with no basement, two other adults who don’t mask and six animals. She turned it down. 🤦♀️
@theJagmeetSingh
How does that put more food on the table for Canadians? CEOs will just raise costs even more to make up for the tax they now have to pay. 🤷♀️

@aftab_usa
Sounds like metapneumovirus is going to have a fun-filled summer invading all the Covid-weakened immune systems. Whatever you do, don’t wear a mask! /sarc
@canadianpoli
I used to be a ❤️, but since ❤️+🧡 have completely broken Canada — to the point where younger Canadians can no longer afford to put a roof over their head — I’m seriously considering becoming a 💙.
I was the only one masked at Costco again today. I have to say, it’s getting hard for me to give a shit about anybody else’s cause, when nobody else gives a shit about my cause.
#LongCovid
@_Hughes_T
I’m so sorry you find yourself in the same situation as me. Horrible is an understatement. We are literally stuck in a perpetual nightmare. I can only hope that with time, we will slowly recover our health. ❤️
@ProfoundTunes
Same for me, so I’ve stopped seeing them. We chat on the phone and over text (but not about Covid) and that’s it. No more in-person visiting. I watch as they catch infection after infection and slowly lose their abilities, while blaming every symptom on something else.
2/3) CPP-D or Retraite QC mishandled my PHI, so in addition to having no clue where the paper copy of my medical report went (which makes me vulnerable for identity theft), I have to wait another 8-9 months before I get a decision on my claim, versus getting one in June. But…
3/3) I should be grateful because I’ve only been contributing to this shit show of a country for 33+ years and it will still have my back in the end — when I finally run out of savings to survive on, I’ll be eligible for Medical Assistance in Dying.
One of my uncles died of brain
#cancer
today. He was 69. He never had good health, even as a child. No one knows why. He was a heart transplant recipient. A very kind and brave soul who didn’t deserve any of that suffering. RIP mon oncle Dan. ❤️❤️❤️
@Dakota_150
Excellent article. Too bad they went with “exercise intolerance” and failed to mention “post-exertional malaise”, since the vast majority of
#LongCovid
patients are intolerant to ADLs alone, never mind exercise. This is confusing as it’s not a different intolerance. This is
#PEM
.
@ShaneyWright
@myrabatchelder
Fatigue is the most common symptom among
#LongCovid
patients, but it is not like feeling tired. It can completely paralyze you, making you unable to move in your bed. The word fatigue fails to describe the profound disability it inflicts on people.
@CovidSolidarit1
This has already happened in Canada, leaving those who remain overworked and exhausted. ER docs are now leaving in droves for the sake of maintaining their own health/sanity. ER capacity is always at 200+% where I live. Not even remotely sustainable,
@shroon7
@lhaukmee
Then it would have to be full days for masked shopping because it wouldn’t be safe to shop immediately after unmasked people have swarmed the building.
@drseanmullen
I’m not convinced that « If parents actually knew what was happening under the hood, the demand for change would overwhelm the system. » Most parents are not only happy with the ongoing denial, but fueling it despite all the scientific research right in front of their nose.
I am so jealous of all the people who get to go back to work after their vacations end.
#LongCovid
cost me my career and it’s what I miss the most.
#NotRecovered
I block all the accounts who can’t read simple dates and figure out that
#LongCovid
existed long before the vaccine. That’s just a level of dumb I want nothing to do with.
@loscharlos
Well, that was a frustrating read. I’ve been completely disabled since April 2020. I’ve lost my career, my home and proximity to everyone I know as a result of this disability and my symptoms don’t even add up to 12 points using that list.
@luckytran
Using the excuse that « there’s still a lot we don’t know about it » doesn’t erase what they do know about it, which is a lot of really bad stuff.
@Carrie_McGinn
You’re absolutely right. It’s not only about losing what we had, but also, what we could have had. Maybe someday, effective treatments will allow us to create new LinkedIn profiles. 💚 Green means hope.
@LauraMiers
The masses don’t yet grasp that they are not fine despite feeling fine. Can you imagine if all those people started requesting medical imaging?
@emilyesfraser
Same here. Only my husband masks. He has LC as well, so he gets it. I don’t think I’ll be able to help family/friends who become Covid disabled in the future. I’m running out of empathy.
@1goodtern
If they are petrified of lockdowns, why are they forcing them on the vulnerable perpetually? What’s good for the goose is good for the grander!
CBC just reported that based on a union survey, 49% of Ontario nurses are either leaving the profession or considering leaving it and that 79% of them are hopeless about the future of the health care system. Masks mandates would help, but let’s just watch people die instead! 🤦♀️
A very dear friend teaches kindergarten and is soon going back to teaching maskless. She already had Covid once (maybe more). Says it’s too hard to mask all day. I wonder how much easier life is going to be when she’s permanently disabled.
@a_longhurst
@TRyanGregory
Most people are unaware of all the organ damage this virus causes, even following ‘complete recovery’. In addition to bad reporting, government has purposely withheld so much vital information from the population. Without the facts, people can’t make informed decisions.
@anima_anonyma
What I don’t get is there are no tests (that I am aware of) that prove mental health illnesses (anxiety, depression, etc.), yet insurers approve those claims based on psychiatrists’ diagnosis. Why not do the same for other invisible illnesses? Am I missing something here?
@loscharlos
A former colleague posted about being hospitalized with blood clots in his legs and lungs. He’s a retired gentleman who is very active/fit. He’s not connecting the dots as to the cause of this. I feel like sending him the published
#Covid
research even if he didn’t ask for it.
@prairietara
It won’t be twice a year forever. It will only be twice a year until you’re permanently disabled by
#LongCovid
or you suddenly drop dead of a post-Covid cardiac complication, whichever comes first.
