Even if what you say is true, you can't get more leftists that align with more of your politics by not engaging them. The fucking left has done this my entire adult life and it's done as much or more harm to progressive politics as centrist Democrats have. It's fucking madness.
@tkerssen
Them hollering to people to "GET INSIDE! NOW!" and shooting at them on their own property is something I've never seen. It's chilling as hell.
After 4 years of posting COVID info on my FB timeline I got one private message response mentioning it.
From my young adult grandson, 2000 miles away, puking, sweating, and shitting himself. Having panic attacks. Too embarrassed to ask in public. No one masks there. Tests? 1/
A friend's son, late 20's, not currently symptomatic with anything, but had COVID in March 2023, just died suddenly in his mothers arms. Both he and his father (in his 70's) had COVID at the same time. Father was hospitalized w/COVID & pneumonia and spent a week in hospital. /n
Bizarre. Months before this latest surge in COVID I was at the pharmacy and almost all pharmacy staff was masked.
Today, when we're in the middle of the largest? Zero. Zip. Nada.
Most humans don't follow science. They still follow the herd. If only we'd lead w/science instead.
Living with my daughters ex and new family with 2 other young children, and they probably don't have tests, and probably wouldn't test anyway. Vaccinated? Probably not or not up to date - government response to this pandemic just keeps harming & killing people w/no end in sight.
He probably had COVID in October, in addition to any previous "flu-like" episodes. Didn't test then either, so even if today's infection (not a panic attack! - he's been so gaslit about his own experiences) is COVID it's some other bad opportunistic thing that shortens/ends life.
They held the services indoors in a gymnasium last weekend. No one was masked.
I didn't attend. So far my partner isn't symptomatic.
I just can't understand this. At all.
Well, fuck you
@POTUS
,
@TheDemocrats
,
@CDCgov
public health and redneck rural America. This is what we get when we have shitty politicians and public health officials that kowtow to capitalists.
Manufacturing consent isn't always done overtly. Society is silently banning the discussion and consideration of COVID as a problem needing more consideration.
Wearing a mask signals non-compliance, and people are getting treated as thought-criminals for reminding them of this.
I'll tell you something weird.
I never thought I would be the confessional kind of priest, people coming to me with the secrets they couldn't tell anyone else.
And I never in my craziest dreams thought I would be a priest that people would come to with...
When I told my spouse that I was masking at the hospital to see our son after emergency surgery she masked the first day but not the second or third day - because literally no one at the hospital, staff or visitors were masking.
It's fucking lonely out here.
@CDCDirector
Only one person in that group understands forward transmission of aerosols of an airborne pathogen, asymptomatic disease transmission, and how to model appropriate mitigation in public during a pandemic.
Please resign and make them CDC Director.
Both sick rn - Partner went to grandkids winter concert (likely spreader event) asked if she wore a mask "no, used nasal spray" - Said I would be masking throughout this infectious season to prevent bringing anything home, asked if she would also "I'm not sure I can do that"😩🤬
Even the dysfunctional
@CDCgov
says that COVID is HIGH in his part of the world - yet because of the complete failure of
@POTUS
,
@TheDemocrats
, and public health overall since Biden took office its still a unhealthy, deadly mess.
People have gotten sick (that didn't have to) are getting sick (that don't have to) and have died (that didn't have to) and will die (that don't have to) because masking in hospitals, schools, and other indoor public spaces has been abandoned.
Last two weeks:
Brother in law in hospital w/pneumonia, released 12/21. His brother (also a BIL) dies 12/25 due to clotted liver, probably cirrhosis w/cvd complications.
Extended family is arriving this week for an indoor potluck memorial 1/7.
I'm "sick" til further notice.
"Something that worries Swinton...is an attitude of self-centeredness."
“There is a belief..that all the focus is on you as an individual...I am actually a real poster child of...staying collective"
Except when it comes to masking it seems.
Hypocrisy.
@Lost_Nickel
Can you add notes? "Patient notes gaslighting behavior from neurologist's notation to PCP, despite clinical findings of the physiology showing clear indicators for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a disease not shown to be caused by anxiety or depression. EBV is the likely causal agent."
@Ninjazz636
Indeed, thank you. Relatedly, and of course things happen absent COVID still, but we just learned today that our relatively young healthy police chief died suddenly - no cause given. I think we'll be seeing more and more of this sadly.
@scarsandhearts
It's bizarre how FB has become the "see, I'm OK!" social media site, just reinforcing daily that (especially after watching what is happening in real life) almost everyone is in denial becasue yes, that does feel more comfortable until it doesn't.
@_PA_KAG_girl
What's "too bad" is people like you claiming to give a shit yet blaming **only vaccines** ("this is from the vax") for the sequala rather than acknowledging that yes, vaccines can cause it, but it's **MUCH MUCH LESS LIKELY VACCINE CAUSED IT** & instead it's MORE LIKELY COVID DID.
@1goodtern
We have to get past shared grief, helplessness, and pain that capitalism-as-practiced has so conditioned us to feel. I don't have the magic answer, but continuing to be supportive and informative has to remain a part of that. Thanks for your contributions here Tern - appreciated.

At the end of the day it's still about policy. You and Ana support centrist neoliberalism and proponents like Madeline Albright, and "real" progressives do not. You take money from DNC funders, real progressives do not.
Unless you folks change, this will always be the case.

"The crisis has given us a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see ourselves and our country in the plainest way. At no other time, ever in our lives, have we gotten the opportunity to see what would happen if the world simply stopped."
They put a stop to that stopping real quick.
"it is the duty of nations to allow for the passage of successful asylum seekers from embassies to the mainland territory of the state that has granted an individual asylum."
@mikejason73
Start at the real moment of decline: the early 1980's when Democrats embraced centrism. This is when Democrats stopped fighting for most of us (the working class) and started working for corporations.
@brownecfm
Most of my family are still in the "make sure your social cups are filled!" stage of coping (denial). Capitalism and social media's reliance on "feel good now!" instead of "make sure you won't feel bad later!" is the unaddressed pathology that enables all of this madness.
@makeupartist524
<sad lol> yes, for sure. I just hope he can get the adults there to be more responsible - but with better information at least he can care for himself better.
@lcmoser
Biden personifies centrism and capitalism and how they have perniciously invaded public policies to create the unprincipled madness we're now witnessing.
Centrism nor capitalism have definitive underlying principles unless we provide them and Joe is now lost in that wasteland.

@scott_squires
They literally said that? jfc
Our society is a race to the bottom, with the majority dragging the rest of us along with them.
When I told my spouse that I was masking at the hospital to see our son after emergency surgery she masked the first day but not the second or third day - because literally no one at the hospital, staff or visitors were masking.
Most people *are* herd animals.
I think most people would be in favour of the reintroduction of masking
I have good IRL friend who is both Tory & Brexit voter
She said she wishes masking was reintroduced in indoor spaces
She has had Covid a couple of times and doesn’t want it again
Short 🧵1)
I know a handful of people who are incredibly angry with me because they caught Covid after they were tricked into thinking it was harmless, while I was warning them not to catch it and telling them how to avoid it.
@caitoz
That's where our US "Manifest Destiny" decree came from. You'd think our ancestors that left England voluntarily because it sucked for them or were deported and imprisoned elsewhere would have evolved away from a colonial mindset but the descendants simply rebranded & embraced it
@aaronjmate
We don't need (and haven't gotten) a new dog. Why? Because the tails wagging it remain the same.
Also incredible that we run the greatest country on Earth like cliques were ran in high school. Pathetic.
@mgranville1
Very, very nice thread outlining Bernie's consistency in a) recognizing that both the Democrats and the GOP mostly represent moneyed interests, and b) most people that aren't moneyed interests are tired of both. He also recognized we need a revolution - we are having one. Thanks!
@davidsirota
I'm in my sixties, lost my job/career/retirement in the 90's due to voicing these same thoughts as a union rep in a public school district. Nihilism comes in waves, my friend. One must ride them or drown, it seems. Carry on as best you can.
@mattduss
@mehdirhasan
Matt, you're complaining about people being consistent in how they see warmongering as bad, no matter who does it. I've often wondered how fascism came to Germany with so many intellectuals per capita.
Your rationalizations for current Democrat policies sheds light on that.
Democrat’s spending bill continues to be a big boon for the rich & Big Pharma as it now includes a $400 billion tax cut for the top 5% via SALT cap repeal and only reduces the price of 10 prescription drugs starting in 2025. The party has learned nothing and deserves to lose.
@whstancil
No. Again dear Will - it's the *lack* of lifelong, systemically sound social safety net *policies* that protect the working class and poor that centrist Democrats have been ignoring - for decades - that's created these sentiments. Decades, Will. Decades.
@whstancil
No, Will. We're not anti- Dem, per se. We're anti-genocide and anti-capitalist. For decades Democrats have been unable and unwilling to provide a systemically sound social safety net for the working class and poor.
Both parties are bad.
They're also committing genocide w/Israel
@AdithyaR_YXE
Right? It's mind-bending. They had no issues when the pandemic began, but the social pressure since and "the pandemic is over!" rhetoric is very strong.
@SenSanders
NOBODY gives a f*ck about Mitch or the GOP.
We want DIRECT ACTIONS aka VOTES on legislation that WILL ACTUALLY eliminate child poverty, provide healthcare for all, a living wage.
We don't need GOP votes, we need reliable reps in DC to get more PROGRESSIVES VOTING NEXT TIME.

Why do authoritarian gov agencies want to chime in on social justice issues? Social media acquired credibility? It's delusional.

Thank you Jon. The propaganda and pressure to be "normal" is leading us humans to do all sorts of things with potentially bad outcomes. It's like I'm at a high school kegger again, trying to keep people safe despite themselves. So I guess I have training? 😣🙃😭

"The U.S. is the world leader in teaching other nations how to loot & siphon the wealth that’s created by the working class & distribute it to the ruling class."
Why is nobody talking about the fact that the U.S. helped privatize Russia in the 90s & build the oligarchy it is today? The U.S. is the world leader in teaching other nations how to loot & siphon the wealth that’s created by the working class & distribute it to the ruling class.
@kjander
Thanks for sharing that. He's had a history prior to 2020 of panic and anxiety so it's likely just made it worse, but will definitely mention POTS symptoms as an added bonus in case he notes any of those issues later.

"small talk helps a lot of NT people to feel safe"
There's nothing "neurotypical" per se, just a spectrum of neurodiversity humans have been navigating amongst themselves forever, with varying degrees of success, which is dependent on how well all parties acknowledge this.
@CoreyRobin
I go back and watch that WHCD where Obama skewered Trump. 1) It was not OK for a sitting President to mock and shame a private citizen in public, but more important: 2) It shows how politically inept Obama/Dems are.
"Lifting-up Trump" likely solidified Trump's decision to run.
@victoriacoble15
I was a union rep in the 80's in schools. Behavior of administrators was so bad they would not do anything in good faith - I had to take every single action where they defied clear rules to public meetings of the governing board or admin law judge. Shame works when people don't.
Nobody in this extended family even thinks about COVID anymore, much less the flu or RSV that can infect, damage, and/or kill someone. No one masks, no one tests if they are sick, it's just a constant disease miasma that since everyone they know is doing it, they do it too. 😫😟
Last two weeks:

@SairaForGeorgia
Pre-crime arrests. Similar to SLAPP lawsuits (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) they serve the same purpose: using courts and police action to limit citizen paticipation, or a Strategic Law Enforcement Preventing Public Participation (SLEPPP)? idk - fascism still.
