An important thing to remember about
#COVID19
and
#LongCOVID
is we still don't know the long-term health impacts.
We still don't know what will happen after 8, 10, 15+ years.
It continues to blow my mind we already know
#Covid19
can cause brain damage, heart damage, lung damage, diabetes, blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, strokes, dysautonomia, POTS, ME/CFS, & many more horrible health issues & people just pretend like getting Covid repeatedly is fine
If you have a home w/ a door that goes directly outside, your own washing machine & dryer, & your own car, you are experiencing a vastly different pandemic than millions of people who live in apartment buildings & ride on public transit.
Remember that when you talk about masks.
A reminder once again that if you own your own car, live in a house, & have a job where you can work from home, at least when COVID levels are high, then you are living in a very different pandemic than people who use public transit, live in apartment buildings, & work in person
People who work from home in their own house with their own car are experiencing a very different pandemic than those who live in large apartment buildings & rely on public transit & work in person.
It seems like former group are the loudest about ending the mask mandates.
Not having mask mandates in place may not seem like big deal to you if you live in house, have car, & don't have to go anywhere. But for those of us in apartment buildings, taking public transit, going to doctors offices, working in person, w/ kids in school, masks matter a lot!
It is ridiculous that we are encouraging everyone to test for
#COVID19
at home and then none of those tests are counted by our government. And then our government makes policy decisions on case numbers we all know are a vast undercount.
A reminder once again that if you own a car, live in your own house with a door that goes straight outside, and work from home, then you are living in a completely different pandemic than those that depend on public transit, live in apartment buildings, and work in person.
If you have active
#COVID
, please do not get on a flight, train, bus, or other public transportation. Even if you feel okay you could infect someone else and kill them. Isolate until you are negative. Please do not kill other people. This should not need to be said.
Hearing from multiple CDC staff that most staff are still working remotely until April.
While CDC tells people across the US it’s safe to unmask and go back to work, most of the CDC staff are still working remotely til at least next month.
Is the CDC director still working from her home in the wealthy and well-vaccinated suburb of Newton, MA? Are most CDC employees still working remotely? And do they have to wear masks at the office?
Some journalist should cover this.
When people in future say "we had no idea about long-term health issues from
#COVID19
," please know that was a lie. We already know COVID causes tons of serious health issues from damage to hearts, lungs, & other organs, to diabetes, POTS, ME, dysautonomia, blood clots, PE & more
It still blows me away people think wearing a mask is more inconvenient than a lifetime of new chronic illness and disability and the potential of a shorter lifespan.
#LongCOVID
#COVID
"Long COVID is now the country’s 3rd leading neurological disorder, the American Academy of Neurology declared in July. As of the end of May, there were 82.5 million COVID survivors in the US & 30% of them—about 24.8 million—were considered 'long-haulers'"
"Parents of students with disabilities in Virginia public schools have won a major legal dispute, winning the right to require mask-wearing by teachers and students to help protect their children against COVID-19." 🎉🎉🎉
An important reminder about masking, part of the reason you aren't seeing more people masking in stores and other indoor gatherings is because TONS of us that support masking are staying home, when we can!
Anyone living in an apartment or house with your own door that goes to the outside and a car to transport you safely around is experiencing a very different
#Covid19
pandemic than the millions of us living in apartment buildings and depending on public transportation.
#WearAMask
When a virus is **airborne** & unmasked strangers standing next to us in apartment building elevator or hallway can infect us, then we have gone beyond individual risk. There is no consent in shared public spaces we cannot avoid. Masks & COVID prevention efforts are needed.
Shout-out to everyone else who has not eaten inside a restaurant since March 2020 and who is doing everything they can to keep themselves and their family and loved ones safe from
#COVID19
and
#LongCOVID
!
Once you read research on damage
#COVID19
and
#LongCOVID
can do to people, or experience it firsthand, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to stop masking. Wearing a mask is a very mild inconvenience compared to lifelong disability, not being able to work, and a shorter life
You. Can. Get. COVID. Multiple. Times.
People have gotten COVID 2, 3, 4, 5+ times.
Reinfections can be significantly worse.
You can get reinfected! How do people still not realize this!?
The downplaying of
#LongCOVID
is intentional. If more people knew the serious risks to themselves and their children, there would be much more uproar about how the government is doing very little to protect people from getting
#COVID
over and over again.
People who have excellent health insurance, access to medical care, and paid sick days are living in a very different pandemic than workers who do not have health insurance, no easy access to health care, and who don't get paid when they can't work.
When the US erupts into the next massive
#COVID
surge and the data can't be hidden anymore, remember the US government itself announced we were expecting around 100 million new COVID cases this fall and winter and did virtually nothing to prevent or mitigate it.
Imagine if we had TV commercials telling people the serious health risks of
#COVID
&
#LongCOVID
& told them about the increased risks of blood clots, strokes, heart problems, pulmonary embolisms, diabetes, & more. Imagine if those ads told people to get vaccinated AND wear a mask
If you're arguing you would rather let babies, immune compromised, and those at high-risk for severe
#Covid19
die because wearing a mask is too difficult for you, we don't just have a difference of opinion. We have a difference in morals.
Covid is the
#1
cause of death in the United States.
And yet our national conversation in the media is about when we can stop masking, a simple intervention that is major part of the reason other countries have been vastly more successful at stopping
#Covid19
.
I hate it here.
Masks need to be mandated in medical spaces. Period. And masks need to be mandated in all buildings that have medical spaces.
We should not have to risk our lives to see our doctor for a needed medical visit. We need prevention policies in place to make medical visits safe!
Do people flying on planes unmasked and going on vacations unmasked know they're contributing to prolong the
#COVID19
pandemic? Do they realize many people at high-risk of severe COVID are forced to stay isolated at home, postponing even needed medical care because of surge?
A reminder that when you see wealthy privileged people getting
#Covid19
and acting like it's no big deal, they have access to medical care and treatment that you likely will not.
We're telling immune compromised folks at high-risk to go to pharmacies to get vaccines and boosters and at same time telling people with active COVID infections to go to get Paxlovid.
And no masks are required.
This policy makes no sense.
US could mail N95 masks to everyone's homes, mandate masks in public spaces, and require HEPA purifiers and other improved ventilation and filtration.
We could save lives. Our government is choosing not to.
It still blows me away people are willing to risk a lifetime of new chronic illness and disabilities all so they can go maskless at the grocery store or Target. So many people either don't understand the risks of
#LongCOVID
or are incredibly short-sighted.
#WearAMask
Are there any governments in the world who are warning people about the heart issues and blood clotting caused by
#COVID
? CDC and others are not warning people in US, but wondering if any other countries are alerting people to cardiac and blood clotting risks? Thanks!
Just because you tested negative once on a home rapid test when you first got sick that does not mean it's definitely not
#COVID
. Please wear a mask in public settings if you're sick, regardless if you think it's COVID or not.
It appears the
@CDCgov
has changed their policy guidance and is now back to telling everyone to wear a mask if you're in an area with high Community Transmission, which is the majority of the country right now! Good move by the CDC! Waiting til high Community Levels is too late!
Do your part to help protect yourself, your community, & our hospitals:
-Stay up to date on
#COVID19
vaccines
-Test before going to large gatherings
-Wear a mask if you're in an area w/ high community transmission or if you choose
#XBB

It's surreal to follow
#COVID
news & research & learn that COVID rates in US are likely 20-25 times higher than are being reported, as home tests aren't counted most places. Meaning there are around 1 million new COVID cases every day in US! And then see people pretend it's over.
I do not understand how people are continuing to ignore serious risks of cardiovascular issues, blood clots, diabetes & more serious health risks from even mild cases of
#COVID19
.
So many are going maskless & risking their lives, but still going to gym, eating organic, etc? WTH?
What many people don't seem to understand is that it's not initial cold/flu symptoms of
#COVID
that you should most fear. It is health issues that can come in weeks & months to follow from
#LongCOVID
. Myocarditis, pericarditis, blood clots, PEs, ME, POTS, dysautonomia, & more.
Children who grow up with serious health issues from
#LongCovid
#Covid19
are going to have a hard time forgiving the adults who decided a “return to normal” was worth harming their children and potentially shortening their kids lives.
If you have
#COVID19
or think you have COVID, please do not get on a plane, subway, bus, or other public transportation or go to a gathering. You may feel fine but you could kill the people you infect.
Do not kill other people. This should not need to be said.
#COVIDIsNotOver
It is surreal to hear of friends having strokes and losing their sight and hearing due to
#COVID19
and
#LongCOVID
and then see other friends going out to parties maskless and acting like the pandemic is over.
The level of denial and delusion is horrifying.
Mask mandates would save lives and allow people at high-risk for severe
#COVID19
to have more access to essential places like grocery stores, doctors offices, banks, laundromats, pharmacies, & more.
But we aren't mandating masks because the most privileged find them inconvenient
Saying we don't need masks to prevent
#COVID
transmission anymore is like saying we don't need condoms anymore because unintended pregnancy numbers are down.
It is horrifying how the serious heart issues (heart attacks, strokes, myocarditis, pericarditis, etc) and blood clotting that so many people are experiencing from
#COVID
and
#LongCOVID
are being completely ignored by the government and media.
Why does there appear to be no national public education campaign to alert people to dangers of
#COVID19
&
#LongCOVID
, to get vaccinated and boosted, to wear a mask, to get tested, or to take any action to prevent COVID and LongCOVID? Where are the TV ads, billboards, etc?
So many people are going to deeply regret letting their children get
#COVID
multiple times. Between
#LongCOVID
and other long-term health consequences of COVID the rest of children's lives may be forever changed.
Please wear masks & try to prevent infection and reinfection
Watching privileged people argue everyone should just buy N95 masks, CO2 monitors, and other COVID prevention tools and have their own risk assessments shows just how vastly out of touch they are with so many people's lived experience.
Many people cannot afford these tools.
A mask ban was recently passed in North Carolina and there are already reports of cancer patients and others being harassed for wearing a mask.
#NoNYMaskBan
Dreaming of moving to a city where people care about one another and people wear masks to protect themselves and those around them from
#COVID19
.
Are there any cities on the East Coast where people are largely still masking?
The next generation will be truly ashamed when they look back at how many people refused to wear a simple mask to protect one another from a deadly airborne virus.
Think about how you look at the people on the wrong side of history. That is how so many of you will be remembered.
Everyone is at risk of
#LongCOVID
. Even if you've been vaccinated and boosted. Even if you eat kale constantly. Even if you go to the gym regularly. Even if you think you're the healthiest person in the world. Everyone is at risk of serious health issues from
#COVID
. Even you.
If you work from your own home & have a car to get around & can avoid other people if you choose to, remember you’re experiencing a very different pandemic than people who live in apartment buildings, depend on public transportation, & have jobs where they have to work in person
The argument is NOT mask mandates versus ventilation and filtration! We need both! Ventilation and filtration takes time and money to put in place. Mask mandates can be done immediately to help decrease community transmission and cost nothing.
This idea people will mask out of the kindness of their heart if they know they're around someone at high-risk is ridiculous. Have you met people in the US? Have you seen what's happened in pandemic? This is why mask mandates are important. A lot of people won't mask otherwise
Watching yet another
#Covid19
surge starting in the US. Despite multiple warnings from other countries, the US government continues to cling to ridiculous hope that we will magically evade a surge here and refuses to take needed actions to save lives. Same story every time.
Hearing people say they had a mild
#COVID
case hence COVID is not a big deal is like saying I had a mild car accident and was fine so car accidents are no big deal. Then they go on to say if I get in another car accident, I'll definitely be fine. Denial is a powerful drug.
So even our President is just going to keep getting
#COVID
over and over again and our government thinks this is a fine plan? The level of denial about the severity of COVID and
#LongCOVID
is appalling.
It's a lot easier to say you don't care about masks and mask mandates when you live in your own house and don't have to interact with coughing unmasked neighbors in hallways & elevators daily. And when you own a car & don't have to ride subways packed w/ coughing unmasked people.
I will never forget the feeling of being told by doctors I likely had COVID pneumonia in spring 2020 but the hospitals were full and so I should stay home until my lips turned blue and I couldn't breathe.
So many of you don't seem to realize what happens once hospitals overfill
Stock up on N95 masks and/or get a good P100 elastomeric and COVID home tests. I have a feeling this fall/winter is going to be a nightmare and places are going to run low as time goes on.
When "experts" tell you to ignore
#Covid19
spikes happening in Europe because it won't happen in US, I want you to remember they said the SAME THING about Delta and Omicron and even OG
#Covid19
. And then that turned out to be a lie.
And US has less people vaccinated!
It's horrible public health messaging to have
@POTUS
be photographed with active
#COVID
not wearing a mask in a room with other people putting them at risk and back at work putting him at risk for
#LongCOVID
and encouraging others to work while infected.
It's hard to believe how many people are willing to potentially shorten their lifespan and be forced out of their job due to new health issues and disabilities all so they can go maskless at Target.
#LongCOVID
#COVID
Living in US right now feels like being in a Zombie apocalypse surrounded by people who keep arguing that Zombies are fine and won't hurt us. Meanwhile, people keep dying or becoming disabled by Zombies & yet people say oh well, they had other health issues that caused that.
Seeing so many people tweet about how they’re suddenly having brain fog and other serious health issues after COVID and how they don’t understand what’s happening and are shocked. The lack of public education and awareness about
#LongCOVID
is horrible.
Not enough people are concerned about the rise of BA.2 in US and the fact we are ending all
#Covid19
prevention efforts, including mask mandates, and our government isn't planning to finance even the vaccines, testing, and treatment we need.
There should be more vocal outrage!
People can get
#COVID
multiple times.
I keep hearing people say they'll be fine because they've had COVID before. That isn't true. You can get COVID 2, 3, 4+ times. And your reinfections can be significantly worse.
We need a public education campaign about reinfection risk.
It is horrifying the US government has never mailed free N95 masks to every household and the only way to access free masks is to risk your life going into a pharmacy where likely no one is masked and people w/ active COVID are there to get tested and treatment. 😡
So many deeply privileged people saying they want those of us at higher-risk for severe
#COVID
to basically stay home for forever, quit our jobs, postpone medical care, etc, all so so they're not mildly inconvenienced by wearing a mask.
Disgusting.
It is horrifying that whether you are able to survive this fall & winter in US unscathed is going to be heavily influenced by whether you can afford to purchase N95s or other high-quality masks, COVID home tests, & whether you can work from home & keep kids home when it gets bad
"The [CDC] agency’s massive complex outside Atlanta sits mostly empty, while employees, including Dr. Walensky, work remotely."
While they tell employees across the US to go back to work with few protections, the CDC works from home.
People advocating that we never should have taken any
#COVID
precautions in 2020 seem to have forgotten that in NYC we had to have hospital tents erected in Central Park and morgue trucks on our blocks because so many people had died. There was a morgue truck on my block.
Is the
@WhiteHouse
following the new
@CDCgov
guidance for COVID isolation? Are people allowed to meet with
@POTUS
in person after only one day isolation with COVID-19?
I highly doubt it.
If your job lets you work remote from anywhere and you have your own house and your own car and have the ability to isolate completely from other people when you want to, you are very lucky in this pandemic.
Very disappointed to see the new
@CDCDirector
refusing to mask even in an airport. Thinking about all the people at higher risk she and her colleagues may have encountered in route. We need public health leaders that lead by example.
#WearAMask
WHOA! Positivity rate in US is 41.3%, according to Walgreens
#COVID19
Index!!!! It looks around as high as the Omicron peak!
Remember case numbers we see are VAST undercount as most people are testing at home on rapid tests and those aren't counted.
It's ridiculous masks are not required at COVID vaccine sites & people have to risk getting COVID to get the vaccine. Even more ridiculous, the pharmacies & doctors offices people are going to get vaccines are often same place people with COVID are going to get tested & treatment
Instead of spaces taking much-needed steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are asked to sign liability waivers saying we won’t sue when we get COVID-19.
#MedTwitter
Why aren't hospitals requiring medical staff to wear N95 masks? Is it due to cost and hospitals not willing to pay to protect people? Or medical staff not willing to wear more effective masks?
It blows my mind medical staff are still wearing cloth and surgical masks.
If
@CDCDirector
@AshishKJha46
lived in a crowded apartment building & traveled only by public transportation, their perspective on masking & other
#Covid19
prevention efforts might be different.
If you live in your own house & have a car you're experiencing a different pandemic.
PSA: If you had
#COVID19
recently & now have chest pain, trouble breathing, or other symptoms, please see a doctor! Many people are getting serious health issues after COVID including heart issues, blood clots, pulmonary embolisms, myocarditis, pericarditis, etc. Get checked out!
There are virtually no warnings to the American public that COVID can lead to serious heart problems, blood clots, diabetes, and more.
#COVID
#LongCOVID
I don't understand how people on East Coast are pretending
#Covid19
is over when the whole East Coast is bright red with HIGH community transmission of Covid. And we know these numbers are a vast undercount!
The levels of denial of Covid are off the charts right now.
#WearAMask
An important point about masks. When you don’t wear a mask in places like restaurants & bars, you are surrounded by other people who are also consensually willing to unmask & take risks. However, that is not case in apartment buildings, grocery stores, laundromats, & other places
Thinking about how 20+ people spoke at MTA Board meeting today & called for mask mandate in public transit & politicians there did not. One person shared story of losing loved one to COVID who worked for MTA. Another said she walks 4 miles to cancer care because transit unmasked!
