An old college friend flew in town to visit a group of us. She wasn’t feeling well. Took a COVID test. The test was positive. They’re all still going out tonight. To a restaurant. Quick question: Have the inhabitants of this planet gone completely off-the-rails bonkers?!?

I wore an N95 to my annual physical this week. My doctor wasn’t masked. This doctor, in 2022, wrote a letter to my employer supporting my need to work 100% remote, “A COVID infection would likely result in severe illness or possibly death…” Has the worked gone bonkers?

The more I understand COVID, the more frightened I am for my college-age kids. Each has been infected 1x. How am I supposed to function knowing how COVID damages the brain, body & immune system? Any other parents feel the same? I’m having nightmares. I’m overwhelmed with grief.

How do you tell someone you’re mitigating risk due to COVID’s potential long-term cardiovascular, organ & endothelial damage—when she’s been infected three times? You don’t tell her. You say you’ve made research-based choices that work for you—and leave it at that. 😔

My husband is forced to attend a 4-day maskless company retreat. 🦠 All meals in restaurants, 🦠 non-stop meetings. 🦠 Bonus: He shares a hotel room with a coworker who bartends on the weekends for fun. 🦠 Why do companies recklessly expose employees and their families to COVID?

SARS-CoV2 dysregulates the immune system. Like HIV, COVID has an acute phase that may feel like a flu. COVID & HIV nest in the body, causing damage & depleting CD4 & CD8 immune cells It took 7 years before people understood HIV caused AIDS. Think about that.😷

@Lauriemac916 @Freeyourmindkid After a cashier sanitized the grocery belt I said, “I see the store is now sanitizing again after pausing.” She snapped, “It’s not my fault! I have to!” I told her I was grateful. She apologized. Said 5 people that day yelled at her for sanitizing & told her COVID wasn’t real.😭

@vikingsjason I am forever grateful for my doctor. Her letter resulted in an accommodation which allowed me to work remotely, full time. I’m profoundly appreciative. Also, my doctor didn’t bother to mask when she knows COVID could seriously impact my health. Both things are true.

@MelpomeneMel This situation was an eye opener. It made me realize that those not following researchers, scientists & the COVID community on Twitter are absolutely in the dark. They know very little about how COVID damages the body, why it’s not mild & that it’s not over.

@gardengirl778 @raanibegum Yes, there were so many who were refused COVID testing early in the pandemic. Scores of symptomatic people were told they would t be tested if they hadn’t recently traveled to China. Have we learned nothing? Or are we trying to keep cases invisible. This is so dangerous!

@thatsajellyfish I was home alone because my husband was out of town. I was startled awake when a piece of metal art fell off the wall downstairs. That thing hung on the wall for ten years, but just HAD to fall off the wall the night my husband was out of town. 😳

@AlbaDocherty @SueSueCurious They’re flat out refusing to give COVID tests? I am beside myself. We’re in the middle of a global pandemic with cases rising & new variants. Wouldn’t our healthcare workers be one slice of sanity in this madness? What’s up with refusing to give people COVID tests?! 😡

@MsHannahT_PhD @laurieallee As a mom, I just want to reach out and offer my support. The biggest heartache of this pandemic is trying to protect our kids. We deal with our own safety and mental health through COVID, plus we worry about our kids. It’s a lot. I hope your baby is ok. We’re here for support.💕

@KashPrime @JillianHortonMD And public health data belongs to the public. It shouldn’t be manipulated or hidden during a pandemic. Being shut out from knowing if our own communities are dangerous during a global pandemic is dystopian. The public deserve accurate infection, hospitalization and death data.

@Ninawildflower I’m a science writer, not a doctor. Please tell your son that brilliant physicists, materials scientists and engineers agree masks work. Each wears an N95 every day. Sometimes they’re the only person masking at work. It’s okay to be the smartest person in the room!

@emmagf The WSJ published THREE articles last week, all demanding that workers return to offices. This is organized, corporate-fueled bullying of workers. And Adams has decided to play along. Tool. 40% of commercial property is empty. Big banks are losing $. That’s what this is about.

@nohomelikeplace @Friesein The numerous barriers to Novavax make zero sense. The studies are impressive, one which shows NV prevented 100% of serious illness/hospitalization. Other countries allow Novavax as a booster after mRNA vaccines. But most in the US could not get it. I don’t understand why.

@MLS_Dave @beansprouts_mom How is this is sustainable? If maskless doctors and nurses regularly treat COVID patients, they’ll get sick and may get long COVID after serial infections with high viral loads. Won’t our medical system collapse with workers constantly being sick or permanently disabled?

@TRyanGregory “Experts” who claimed kids weren’t driving COVID infections were used to end remote learning & force kids/teachers into unsafe schools. Corporations drove this messaging. They wanted parents back at work. Sad that these scientist would harm kids to help CEOs maximize profits.

@MelpomeneMel @Gab_H_R At least some countries are gene sequencing. How lucky. Our government is too busy to gene sequence. It’s resources are tied up launching the new “COVID is over, unmask and head to Applebee’s” campaign.

@margaretforreal You are better than her. And she knows it. Many people refuse to do the right thing. And they don’t want anyone reminding them of their ignorance & unprofessionalism. So they bully & belittle those doing the right thing. I’m sorry a toxic person like this is in your orbit.

@oldfshndanne Your texts highlight how COVID has built walls between people—like we’re on different planets. We’re right. Science & research are on our side. History celebrates people who buck the system. But we rarely acknowledge how painful and lonely doing the right thing can be.

@fitterhappierAJ I’ve followed AJ Leonardi and many researchers, scientists since the beginning of COVID. Leonardi and others have been right all along, while enduring middle-school level bullying, antics and unprofessional behavior from influencers who have been wrong most of the time.

@elcavaqueen My mother told me the day she married my father she cried and told her mother she didn’t want to marry him. Her mother told her it was too late to cancel and forced her to walk down that aisle. She was 19.

@AgentNumberBlue @Gab_H_R Why is the government hiding COVID data & leaving us unable to assess if our communities are safe or dangerous? It’s like the National Weather Service dismantling all weather radar and blinding people to approaching or current storms. Why are we purposely being kept in the dark?
