A friend was approached by Apple to work on maps in its early days. Turned it down because the product was crap.
My response: “that’s where the fun is! Build something great from scratch vs making marginal improvements on a great product.”
Now Apple Maps is better than google.

Part of the problem is IT. Service recovery functions that are automated at other US airlines are still manual at Southwest. When shit happens, that means humans have to solve it.
United and delta have been furthest ahead in automating service recovery.
The crazy thing about this is that throughout my lifetime, Southwest has been the VERY best airline when it comes to execution. Unquestionably. The leader. Which makes this all the more surprising. Interested to hear how it all happened. Sorry for all those stranded.
