You know that iconic scene, at the end of The Matrix when Neo suddenly “gets it” and picks bullets out of thin air as if they are cute and curious little things? Been thinking: what’s the equivalent of “seeing the matrix” for product leaders? . 10+ Realizations that come to mind:

reminder that the product features we love the most from big companies often had to be fought for, because they were either cross-functional or replaced antiquated thinking in ways that were initially resisted. these are the unsung heroes in product.

I am the reason your phone can autofill 2FA codes from your messages and emails. Messages, the intelligence teams, and SEAR collectively hated the idea, shooting it down unanimously. I fought for 2 years until getting the green light.

the portability of memory is one of the areas of innovation I find most interesting (and it’s in the interest of users to NOT have our memory live ONLY within one LLM/AI company).

Who will own our digital memory?. As AI platforms ask us to entrust our memories to them, we risk endless reintroductions to every AI or (worse) seeing our digital selves held hostage by a single AI overlord. 1st in a 2-part blog series up now on building an open architecture

I am surprised there is no single app that simply (1) collects all of your health data points - from whoop/oura data, blood tests, PDFs of lab tests you feed it, other scraped sources, AND (2) auto-generates a system prompt of sorts for any LLM when you ask any health question. ?.

not surprising, but underscores just how antiquated mainstream medicine remains. how do we accelerate (mandate?) adoption of AI in the medical community? will the data keepers like Epic obstruct progress (guised as compliance)? . humanity needs collectively intelligent medicine.

"Benchmarked against real-world case records published each week in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), we show that the Microsoft AI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO) correctly diagnoses up to 85% of NEJM case proceedings, a rate more than four times higher than a group

new tech will widen margins of most businesses, felt most in SMBs as so many boutique ideas become viable as businesses. this last piece is especially interesting, we may enjoy far more hand crafted, small batch, and bespoke versions of everything once the margins allow for it.

as large co’s evolve into congicos (cognition driven companies w/ AI + massive amounts of data & inference at the core), the middle layers of management are the first to go, and those who remain will be the stewards of every function and the orchestration engineers and designers.

fascinating use case of AI to "reveal the gap between what people say and what they truly mean". by detecting decision confidence, hedging language, unspoken concerns, and even the subtle power dynamics in a room. like "EQ as a service?".

we’re going from “trust, but verify” to “verify, then trust.” . expect “safety layer” AI-driven capabilities to be at the operating system level within a year or so, where malicious links, scam texts, and calls with generated voices get surfaced as risky to the user in real-time.

tons of revenue without profitability followed by a rapidly declining growth rate is a recipe for either a hard pivot or bad outcome. it’s a gold rush before everyone else just buys an axe.

investors will look back + realize we should have discounted “out of gate” revenue in a world where the leading model / “hit product capturing imagination” status changes monthly. in such times, it’s either a sole bet on team, or a platform-level displacement that changes game.
