I rarely cared about my appearance. Worked physically so most my clothes were stained or torn. Had a medical incident and called an ambulance. They thought I was a homeless drug addict and pretty much refused to treat me. Dressing well might save your life.

Also in California, a lot of crimes stopped being reported or even addressed in the last few years. Its a thing to note when they say crime is down. Reported crime is down, crime itself has drastically spiked in a lot of areas.

California, had two guys at midnight walking around my place in ski masks with crowbars. Police responded 4 hours later with a phone call asking if they were still there. Had my pistol and was patrolling myself for a while.
