The majority of med students are female. If surgery cannot offer a safe working environment for women, we risk not being able to attract all the best and brightest into our specialty. That would be a tragic loss to surgery, and to patients. WE NEED TO SORT THIS, STARTING TODAY!

There is no catch. This is NOT a business venture!
All hospitals have out-of-date(OOD) sutures which are binned. I have asked my hospital to give them to me for training.
I want to pool OOD sutures to create an FREE source of sutures for training.

I routinely (have done so for years) introduce myself as Mr ….., consultant Plastic surgeon, followed by “and this is Mr/Miss/Dr/etc, registrar/SHO/etc” for each member if team, including med student.

My advice: get off the conveyor belt & take a break (6-12/12) to reassess your life. If at that point you are still unhappy, then you should leave Medicine; it is not for everyone & you do want to do a job you don’t enjoy for the rest of your life. No shame in packing it in.

Agree! Also, in my experience, if I am in theatre, even unscrubbed, the staff view me as the surgeon & also trainees find it difficult to make decisions freely, ie I am a hindrance.

I too was task-based when I was a junior. I had my daily list of jobs, and enjoyed ticking them off. As a consultant surgeon, I still am task-based, but the tasks have changed. So, keep being task-based (organised), it shall serve you well in the future, when you are a consultant

just finished doing THREE Dupuytren’s fasciectomies on my list (1palm; 1with MCPJ contracture & 1with PIPJ); skin to skin; with a little advice/retraction.
CT2 assisted, and closed skin, each case. 👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽
Today my ST3 did both cases on my AM list; MCPJ silastic arthroplasty and a little finger Dupuytren’s fasciectomy; skin to skin; with a little advice/retraction from moi.

Recently I had a nftf f/u appt at GP surgery.
New GP; introduced herself, & then said “Mr M, I used to be your SHO. Are you okay with me seeing you?”
I responded:
- Are you a fully trained GP >>Yes
- Did I ever shout at you >> No
- Then I am delighted for you to crack on, doctor
