@GLB______ I have made an effort to learn to “read the room”; words appropriate for one may not be so for another. However, in fairness, usually “what do you want to be when you grow up?” is said in a friendly way, not disrespectfully. But I get this starts to get into “banter zone”.

there is a respectful way of asking a 29 year old doctor what her career ambitions are and it isn’t ‘what do you want to be when you grow up’

@BaronLeSanj to be fair Mr M, I do love the banter zone, got a lot of time for the banter zone, but it would be nice to not feel infantilised and belittled for a tiny little second, as it’s something I consistently experience as a woman in surgery ☹️

@GLB______ I agree with you entirely. Regrettably surgery has a real issue with this. It does need to stop; now! I expect my trainees to behave like the adults they are, so I treat them as adults. The clinical aspects of job are stressful enough without these add-ons.
