๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Canadians boycotting the United States are actually moving the needle. Las Vegas alone has taken a four-billion-dollar hit because Canadians chose not to go. The American alcohol industry is down another nine hundred million. That is real impact.

Every ER doc in Canada - myself included - needs to listen to Rowan Hamilton's dad. This healthy 20-year old had SOB, tachycardia, blurry vision, cough of mucous and blood, normal CXR, d/c on ABx. The next day he collapsed with PEA and found with PEs. https://t.co/6nY1nykkA5

Ontario MDs are repulsed the province is demanding $600,000 from a family MD who mobilized staff and clinics to vaccinate people at the height of COVID-19. Imagine the cost of hospitalization or ICU if only some of those patients needed admission. Disgusting. @OntariosDoctors

At the height of COVID, Dr. Elaine Ma organized pop-up clinics that vaccinated an estimated 35,000 people in Kingston. Her innovative response saved lives. Doctors who stepped up for their communities should be supported, not punished.

It's the drugs, untreated psychiatric illness, homelessness, long wait times and poorly treated dementia in the community. When I see many ER patients I am ready to defend against a punch, kick or spit on the face. It all lands in the ER. It is out of control. @OntariosDoctors

Workplace violence against physicians and other healthcare providers happens every day across Ontario and Canada. @alandrummond2 from Perth, ON, shares how frontline healthcare workers are met with threats, aggression, and sometimes even physical harm.

How about Alberta just fund its already existing hospitals to ramp up surgical capacity in the evenings, weekends and holidays rather than go through this dog and pony show. Why does Alberta believe public is evil and private is perfect. https://t.co/BXGQu5Oae4

Dr. Ma ensured 35,000 got their COVID-19 vaccine at the pandemic height. She regrets nothing. Ontario is fighting her on ridiculous technicalities. She used the money to staff and run clinics. 60,871 Canadians died. That's not "extenuating" enough. https://t.co/tIvJlVdSqU

Who is going to stand up for the average Canadian making $79K a year? Saskatchewan won't with its private MRIs, Alberta won't with its private surgery plans and all the for-profit private surgical clinics across Canada won't.

Thanks Megan. I do complex life and limb decision making and procedures at 3 am over 2 decades in patients I have just met. If I can do that - low risk surgery can be done on patients with known and defined single system pathology at 3 am.

@raghu_venugopal Do surgeons perform at their peak in the night hours? Maybe depends on the surgeon. I know for electrical work I'm not as good at 3 am at my job than I am at 3 pm, and while obviously both electrical work and surgery needs to be done in the night sometimes, I wonder??

In AB at least 30% of an OR's time is closed and dark. These rooms cost millions. Why is gov not keeping them open?

If ER docs do LPs, intubate, chest tubes and crash surgical airways at 4AM - a surgeon can do routine surgery at 4AM if we give them OR time, nurses, and anesthesiology. Show me a patient not wanting their case done sooner and get on with life. The hospital OR stands empty.

Irish, Italians, Japanese, Hispanic, Chinese - and many others faced racism throughout North American history. Trump is textbook racist. He celebrates it. He is a repugnant example to young people. He stokes hatred among people. https://t.co/pSPlhClDHM

Anemia and separate from that - iron deficiency - robs many patients - especially women - of their full physical and mental capabilities. Intravenous iron should be publicly funded. It is literal medical misogyny that it is not.

The Ontario Auditor General's Report is crucial but we need an update if any recommendations were implemented. That's what people want to see. Did government change anything or is it just a mountain of paper put on the shelf. @OntarioAuditor

Our media only reports the ER is utter hell but I've had patients (who weren't dying) go straight from EMS to CT to acute bed and their life-changing diagnosis made and ICU admission happen - all within 1 hour. That too is part of Canada's publicly funded health system.

It is insanity to me we donโ€™t run Canadian operating rooms around the clock to help people get on with their lives. Run the OR like the ER where Iโ€™ve worked 26 years. We work nights, holidays and weekends. We donโ€™t stop. Get the job done people. Donโ€™t stop.

Once you can't afford food, rent is next โ€” in fact, food bank usage gives us a glimpse into future increases in homelessness. With over one million Ontarians now using food banks, 75% of whom are tenants, we are on the cusp of an absolute disaster.

A new report that says more than one million Ontario residents needed a food bank in the past year is "disheartening" but not surprising, says the CEO of Toronto's Daily Bread Food Bank.

This is an absolute disgrace that betrays the hollowness of the โ€œwarโ€ against drug trafficking. Killing alleged drug mules without due process while liberating a drug lord is both unserious and immoral. How about we follow the law and prosecute and imprison both?
