Aesthetic Dentist of the Year 2014. Creating beautiful smiles for adults and children at Wetherby Orthodontics, and The Raglan Suite, Harrogate. she/her
(Thread) I often get asked 'when should my child see the orthodontist?'. Make sure you visit your dentist regularly who should advise. However things to look out for are...

As a dentist I find the whole PA thing astounding. You cannot ‘practise dentistry’ without qualification and registration, and roles like therapists have clearly defined scope of practice. How is it possible someone can do medical tasks without being GMC registered?
As things stand?
Physician Associates are NOT regulated
Till that happens?
Any expansion of roles & scope should be paused
Its a matter of safety.
Don’t @ me with “senior medics are supervising”
We can’t even supervise our own trainees- let alone anyone else
@ProfRachelGaN
I can’t see anything in the report that explicitly mentions that Clara is trans, yet there is a pile-on. It’s not only concerning for trans people who worry about passing, but also androgynous, tall or masculine-appearing women.

The queue has its own website and map. And I love the recommendations to not forget your coat and umbrella. There will never be a greater queue.
Could you imagine Bosch as an A level art student describing their project? I’m going to paint a giant bird, eating a naked person head first, with swifts coming out of the person’s arse.
To demonstrate the level of bile cyclists face on here, check the responsive to this, where the police have agreed the driver of the van is at fault. There are still responses saying it’s the cyclists fault.
I was blamed for this — a van hitting me in a cycle lane. So I took the footage to the police, and here is the outcome. Might help some Twitter-drivers understand the law better. Thanks and Happy Xmas to
@metpoliceuk
and all road safety units with British police who keep us safe.
Woman tweets about inappropriate DMs. Within 24h so many other women have come forward that
@lotto_dstny
decide he shouldn’t go to the Tour. This is why we have to call out bad behaviour.
#metoo
Women are still being intimidated to not talk about their experiences. But how will things change if we say nothing?
I was excited when this man followed me & then sent a DM. I thought that he saw my tweets looking for work & hoped that finally someone could help me get into the
For those who think tooth brushing at school is a lame idea, know that in deprived areas many don’t have toothbrushes or know how to use them. Tooth decay is the no1 reason for child hospital admission in the UK and is preventable.

The system sucks. It’s not like they don’t know how many graduates they’re likely to have each year. With 5 years warning. 🤦🏻♀️
One good thing about the Harrogate mosque ‘row’, it’s an easy way of identifying racists on twitter (and the planning site-full names there). Funnily enough many of them are also brexiteers and antivax. Impressed with the measured and calm responses from

Aliens, as in little green men visiting in a UFO, no. Aliens, as in some form of life on another planet somewhere in our vast universe, yes.

Duty of impartiality refers to politics, not science. Wearing a mask is not ‘highly controversial’ there is scientific evidence it helps reduce transmission.
@jamieeast
Honestly, does this mean we can’t now decorate our house in red and green as it will look like we’re taking sides?
I loved the advert, it obviously says ‘you do you’, without forcing a right/wrong way. Which, after all, is what they usually show, an ‘ideal’ family xmas
Some uneducated replies here. Dental therapists exist and already work in both NHS and private practice, and can carry out quite a number of dental procedures. But unless the dental contracts are fixed there won’t be any NHS practices to work in
Smile Direct close. Leaving users high and dry, out of pocket and without ongoing care. There was already concern that patients could be harmed. Stay away from any similar companies. If you can’t afford dentist-led treatment don’t be tempted by cheaper offers
It shouldn’t have taken a bankruptcy to protect patients from harm…
It requires decent laws and effective regulation.
Dentists are left to pick up the pieces when these providers offer wholly inappropriate treatment. 1/
Over the next few weeks-
1st June Buy a car or visit an outside market
15th June Go shopping
4th July Get a haircut
But still no news on when you can get dental treatment. This is ridiculous.
Teen, anxious about being bored until probably September ‘can we get a dog? I can take it for walks every day and it’ll keep me busy’
Me ‘a dog is for life not just for coronavirus’ 🐶
@EmergencyBod
@SholaMos1
What I find incredible here is that nobody thought to check before they went on air. ‘Hi Shola, I want to get your name right, could you just confirm the right pronunciation?’ It’s not difficult, and something I’ve done when introducing speakers at a conference
@thegradmedic
I never read your tweet as punching down on PAs, quite the opposite, it’s quite ridiculous a doctor is paid less than someone who does similar work/has less responsibility, and the solution is obviously to increase Dr pay
@carlafrancome
Good grief. What do they expect? That you drive to the pub instead? Or walk home alone? Cycling is by far the best method of transport for this type of trip!
@CareQualityComm
I’m sorry you had to take it down. I thought it showed that there are humans at the CQC, something we sometimes forget. Humour will help to get us through.
@Scientits
@dyerAndie
Rubbish. I met my partner during lockdown and we both cycled to the outside meeting place. Both in lycra. Unorthodox first date but it worked out!
@WiCnet
Anyone getting cross at this hasn’t actually read the article have they? This is the list. I see people who identify as male, female and non-binary. If you’re still cross about Emma’s listing asking yourself why.
Pleased to have made it to Dutch corner to experience this. There were 10 times more people later. Brilliant fun and the rain didn’t stop anyone
#yorkshire2019
Today’s gem from my daughter, a fresher at a uni in the Midlands. ‘I didn’t know that outside Yorkshire most people don’t drink
@YorkshireTea
’. (She was shocked to discover supermarket own brand in her uni kitchen!)
@andrewpunton
Seriously? This is allowed? As a dentist I can’t even spray a puff of air and water in someone’s mouth without FFP3, and they’re not even symptomatic.
Dangerous pass on A59 near goldsborough at lunchtime today. The driver of the skip lorry gave the cyclist (me) plenty of room but the oncoming car had to stop to avoid a collision. I was turning left anyway! Reported to the company.
@theeyecollector
@EricaJSandberg
Presumably at some point the drivers might realise that more people on bikes = less people in cars = more space on the road? Or is the anti-bike venom just too strong?
@DrAmirKhanGP
Excellent thread. Announcing more doctors is an easy way for the government to make themselves look good, but there’s no substance behind it. We need the staff now, and we need to keep them.
One more thing on the toothbrushing. Teeth and gums are a complicated surface. Most adults can’t brush their teeth thoroughly. Many people do it too quickly or skip it altogether. It’s an important habit to establish at an early age
Top tip for dental patients waiting outside for their appointment. Don’t sit in the car in the sun. Your skin temperature will be too high when we check you at the door.
Finally pulled on my big girl pants and went on a group ride this morning. Was too scared to before for fear of what people might think of my lack of fitness (& poor bike handling skills). I loved it 🚴🏼♀️
@Belfast_Red1
@theJeremyVine
No, Jeremy moved towards the middle of the road to prevent him overtaking as it was a dangerous manoeuvre. Yet he still did. The car just needed to wait until after the islands.
@JonathanPieNews
Example, I spent 5y as a dental student, worked in the NHS for 8y, did another 3y specialist training. Had a brand new orthodontic practice yet couldn’t get an NHS contract so have been working privately since 2006. They don’t care about staff, patients or the ‘wasted’ money
Bravo
@mrdanwalker
, he got stick for comparing getting Peter Kay tickets to seeing his GP, and has turned this into highlighting the work of GP surgeries.
Top tip. If you are coming for a ‘retainer check’ appointment, bring your retainers with you. It’s not really possible to check them if they’re still in your bathroom 🤦🏻♀️
@WelshGasDoc
It doesn’t matter whether you’re called, or you adore the job, or hate it, you should be fairly paid. It’s a high pressure, high responsibility job and should be remunerated as such.
@EmergMedDr
Absolutely crazy. Even if they didn’t obtain the information illegally how would it be ok to print those things?
After Diana died the press were supposed to be more controlled, especially with the younger Royals. Not sure that ever happened.
I wonder if
@MartinSLewis
would do something about Smile Direct Club folding, and what the rights of the consumers are who are expected to continue to pay finance agreements for nothing in return?
@nedboulting
I did wonder how many viewers of TdF coverage would be in the market for a tilting chair.
I generally record the highlights and start at 7.15 so I can forward through.
Hi
@BBCNews
, this news article is about a business providing tooth whitening which should only be provided by a dental registrant. I can’t find this woman on the
@GDC_UK
registers therefore it’s illegal. It should be removed. What do you say
@TheBDA
?
@scottygb
If it helps at least one person understand and makes them think twice before posting transphobe comments then that’s a win.
Also, it’s not an agenda, this is reflecting things that are happening in real life, just like soaps always have.
Free dental checks sounds great. But how? Where are the dentists? How will they get paid? How much will subsequent treatment cost? It’s really not that simple.
@NessieAndrew
@HarrietAgerholm
It’s worth noting that dental funding in Scotland is different to England. They didn’t change to UOAs in 2006 and are still using ‘fee per item’. Same in NI
Not quite as catchy as ‘hands-face-space-replace’ as per
@trishgreenhalgh
video yesterday, but pleased to see ‘fresh air’ being added to the Gov slogan
The amount of single use plastic is high in dentistry too, and has increased more with covid. We really need to push manufacturers and rule makers on this.
The amount of plastic waste from one cannula. It doesn’t need to be like this - it’s entirely possible to cut down on single use plastic while not compromising on patient safety. More conversations need to be had about
