BMA: Resident doctors have announced strike dates in England, giving the Government two weeks to come to the table to negotiate a path to pay restoration. Action will start 7am on Friday July 25th and end 7am July 30th.

Govt reaction to BMA strike vote in England: While most resident doctors in the BMA did not vote to strike, it is disappointing that the BMA is continuing to threaten strike action after a pay rise of 28.9% over the last three years.

Resident doctors in England who are members of the British Medical Association have voted in favour of strike action. The BMA says there was a 90% vote in favour on a 55% turnout. The union says it will seek talks with Health Secretary Wes Streeting.

The BMA has elected Dr Tom Dolphin as its next leader. Dr Dolphin was elected chair of council by the Association’s council today. Dr Dolphin takes over from Professor Phil Banfield and will start immediately in the role.

The Institute for Fiscal Studies says health spending in England will rise more slowly over the next few years than during the previous two parliaments. DHSC annual budget set to rise by 2.8% in real terms.Ave 3.5% 2019/20 to 2023/24 and 3.6% 2017/18 to 2019/20.

Spending review allocates 3% annual real terms day to day spending growth to NHS in England - 2.8% for overall DH budget. Capital spending rising just 1% according to Health Foundation. Also assumptions of 2% productivity growth which looks “ambitious” according to think tank.
